Dd has come home from reception today and has made a new best friend called “Whiskers”.
“Whiskers” is definitely a girl and she has yellow hair.
I did ask if she was tabby but apparently not!!!
According to DD “Whiskers” is 100% her name.
Please help me decipher what it could be, as I can’t ask her what games she has played with “Whiskers” today whilst keeping a straight face.

My DS insisted a boy in his class was called 'Madness'

I later discovered that the poor child was in fact named 'Magnus'

My son went to a church school which included the name Mary in its title.
He was convinced that Mary's second name was Christmas.
He was v confused by people wishing him a Mary Christmas !

My SIL recently hosted a couple of Chinese students and when she asked their names, one replied Arsehole. Luckily SIL managed not to laugh and said that that wasn’t the name written on the paperwork. The student explained that Arsehole was her English name not her Chinese one. Next morning SIL had a brainwave and asked the girls to write down their names along with their numbers on a piece of paper in case she neede to contact them. Turns out that Arsehole was actually an Ethel!

My DD was convinced that one of her nursery teachers was called Grunty...I finally figured out she was actually called Bronwen!

BooseyAndHawkes · 11/09/2018 21:38

These are brilliant. Reminds me of when DS was in Year 3. He swore blind that his French teacher (aka Mademoiselle) was called Madame Moselle. He even wrote her (wrong) name on the front of his French book.

This thread is very Two Ronnies….

MagnusMama · 11/09/2018 21:55

Cataline my son has had "madness" and "magnet"!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 11/09/2018 21:57

Sadly it probably is Whiskers! There is an alarming number of people out there who name their kids all sorts of shitty names

DarthLipgloss · 11/09/2018 22:02

My DS had a new girl start in his year 1 class called Manchester (Francesca)

Our son’s Godfather is called Ian and his wife Antoinette. He once said if Wanette is my Aunt does that mean Ian is my Uncle.

Holidayshopping · 11/09/2018 22:17

Am dying to hear the real name!

MajesticWhine · 11/09/2018 22:21

My guess is Hibiscus

MightyMagnificentScarfaceClaw · 11/09/2018 22:25

On a similar-ish note, my DD told me that on Friday she has to dress like a peacock. After A LOT of grumbling about bloody dressing up days this early in the year, I asked for more detail - she has to wear pumps or trainers, shorts and a T shirt...yes, PE Kit. Not peacock, DD.

Haworthia · 11/09/2018 22:28

OP solved the mystery at 16:22

It’s a boy called Winston.

MadameJosephine · 11/09/2018 22:30

Reminds me of my friend’s son who insisted his new school friend’s name was Gay Boy. We eventually figured out it was Gabriel

beluga425 · 11/09/2018 22:38

Focalpoint · 11/09/2018 22:38

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 11/09/2018 22:45

We had a supply teacher last year called mrs Hughes. Ds called her mrs used and his friend insisted it was actually Mrs Huge.
When dd was a toddler she used to say her name was Firtsname middlename Fuck-you-son. I still laugh about that now, she was such a dainty demure looking little thing too.

MidniteScribbler · 11/09/2018 22:51

DS was telling me about his new friend. He couldn't remember his name, but told me 'he looks like Liza Minelli'. I finally saw the boy a few weeks later and recognised him instantly, because he did look exactly like her! I was quite impressed with my DS being able to make the connection!

alibongo5 · 11/09/2018 22:59

When I was about 9 a boy in my class had an annoying little brother called Vernon. After a few weeks I asked my classmate what his brother's real name was. He looked puzzled and said "Vernon". I protested that that couldn't be his real name. I had got Vernon mixed up with "Vermin" and thought he had been calling him names!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 11/09/2018 23:02

A small family member couldn't pronounce the letter c. We still refer to his childhood friend as Ben Looper. They are now in their 30s.

Greedycushionhoarder2 · 11/09/2018 23:17

My friends son came out of school insisting there was a little girl named fairy knickers, she turned out to be Veronica.

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 12/09/2018 00:14

When ds started reception he made a new friend Iron. I thought it was a bit modern and mentioned it to my school Mum friend. She told me his name was in-fact Ryan

MamaHechtick · 12/09/2018 00:31

When I was at school one of my friends came in excited about his new baby brother, I was convinced for years that his new brother was called 'bread'. Eventually learnt he was actually called Brett.
