I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

I think your suite will work best with dark walls. It’s very Biba.

TotallyWipedout · 07/09/2018 20:56

I love it. But it would need to go with everything else in your house, really, to be shown to its best advantage. If you decide you don't want it, it would go well in my house.

jarhead123 · 07/09/2018 20:56

Awful!

Paddingtonthebear · 07/09/2018 20:58

Wow.

No not for me, sorry!

Lockheart · 07/09/2018 20:59

That fabric’s never original. Get it recovered.

I used to work in antiques and the amount of people that would cover up a beautiful antique piece of furniture with some horrifically patterned crushed velvet are far too many to name.

bingbongnoise · 07/09/2018 21:03

URGH! It's vile.

Looks like it's covered in cat piss too!

Lemurville · 07/09/2018 21:05

Not our taste I'm afraid. Bear

LongPinkBanana · 07/09/2018 21:05

Revolting.

Looks like it stinks of rat piss.

InspectorIkmen · 07/09/2018 21:10

Love it! So much nicer than the mass produced shite turned out by DFS up and down the land.

Purpleartichoke · 07/09/2018 21:13

Not my personal taste, but it has character. So often our decor choices are boring. That is not boring.

DistanceCall · 07/09/2018 21:14

Not my cup of tea, but I can see how it could work in the right context.

It is a very strong piece, though - I think you need to balance it with the right décor. Right now it really doesn't work. I would suggest taking a look at the Apartment Therapy website for ideas - it's pretty good.

crazydoglady6867 · 07/09/2018 21:16

lockheart. Now you have my interest as to what could be underneath😂😂

Sorry but I hate the shape, it's just awful. It looks like something found in a squatters house, possibly with mice nesting inside.

crazydoglady6867 · 07/09/2018 21:18

I have just been looking at some peacock coloured textured wallpaper and the one I chose was £89 a roll, I may go for a feature wallGrinGrinGrin

Awful. Something I'd expect to find in a deceased elderly person's home that their children are now trying to sell off.

QueenofallIsee · 07/09/2018 21:18

It would only work in an eclectic setting with other pieces to pull it together- it categorically does not work in that room. Sorry OP

crazydoglady6867 · 07/09/2018 21:19

beware ofdragons I would say that is definitely where it came from!

zukiecat · 07/09/2018 21:21

No, sorry OP

It's hideous!

It looks like that thing that was in the news earlier tonight, when a woman got "a few mates" to go and get her sofa that she'd paid for before the House of Fraser collapse

Though hers was worse

neveradullmoment99 · 07/09/2018 21:22

awful.

msmoist · 07/09/2018 21:25

I like the shape, but the fabric is old-fashioned but not in a timeless classic way. It will not show spills though!

Rudi44 · 07/09/2018 21:27

I like it, it’s far more interesting than some cheaply made modern sofa. I think the shape of the sofa is nicer than the chair and whilst the fabric is nice enough it would be lovely recovered in a rich velvet or similar

iloveeggandcressbutties · 07/09/2018 21:33

I think it looks great but would like to see it set off by some luxurious decor. Beautiful lamps, side tables, photograph frames. Golds and greens or reds with rich gold velvets, tassels and rugs. Victorian parlour extravagance. Very cosy in the winter. The shape is great but a plain reupholstered suite would mean it could be set in much fresher modern contemporary room. Of course that's just my view and means nothing at all.

SabineUndine · 07/09/2018 21:34

I really like it.

LongPinkBanana · 07/09/2018 21:37

I have your perfect home, OP

It's gorgeous - but the vintage stove isn't included Sad

lexer · 07/09/2018 21:38

It looks very similar to this famous one www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6142711/British-mother-marches-House-Fraser-store-carries-SOFA.html
