I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

70's meets 1800's. So no from me.

crazydoglady6867 · 07/09/2018 21:47

Oh my that is beautiful, if only I had a spare 1.2 millionGrin

I think it's horrible! Sorry.

thereallifesaffy · 07/09/2018 21:50

That looks just like an old horsehair stuffed sofa I had handed down to me when I bought my first flat in 1993. Except it had a green flock pattern. Once OH moved in, the sofa was dumped. But it was quality and I so wish I'd kept the suite and reupholstered it

LongPinkBanana · 07/09/2018 21:53

I have a friend who, about 20 years ago, filled her home up with 60s & early 70s Ercol type furniture. We all went Confused

Everyone wants that stuff now - paying £500 for things she paid £10 for.

You may be ahead of your time, OP Wink

Bimgy85 · 07/09/2018 21:53

In the right house, fantastic. Others, not so much. In my brain a big old Victorian house with huge tall windows, a tall fireplace and ceiling.

Knittedfairies · 07/09/2018 21:56

My mum always said that if I had nothing nice to say, I should keep quiet.
I’m keeping quiet.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 07/09/2018 21:57

Shape I like, pattern not so much...

MulticolourMophead · 07/09/2018 22:03

I like the shape, but not the pattern.

aybeeseedee · 07/09/2018 22:04

Love it but doesn't go with the Argos cabinet in the corner!

DramaAlpaca · 07/09/2018 22:04

It gives me the heebie jeebies thinking what might be down inside the crevices of a sofa & armchair that old.

I like antiques mixed with modern pieces, but not upholstered things. Sorry OP.

Plumsofwrath · 07/09/2018 22:06

Oh my god 😮

Imagine all the holiday fluids that fabric has absorbed in 80 years.

Actually, don’t

hamburgers · 07/09/2018 22:18

Oh god yuck.

Is it actually 80 years old? That's gross. Think of all the sweat it's accumulated over 80 years seeping in to the fabric etc. I hope you've given it a good wash and steam clean at least.

Secondly, the furniture doesn't suit your sitting room AT ALL. Sorry OP.

Sorry - the shape and brown colour are nice but the flowers are awful. You need to either

  • reupholster it
  • turn your living room into Sherlock Holmes' study asap, with dark green walls, dark brown panelling and other furniture, brass, old books, mirrors, etc.
  • go for ten years out of date rather than 80 and really throw yourself into the chocolate brown and teal interiors by Next Home look.
ichbineinstasumer · 07/09/2018 22:31

I like it. Neutral colours, a classic design, I don't understand why it's so unpopular here. Anyway, you like it, your DH has agreed to it and I don't think it matters what anybody else thinks

Bluntness100 · 07/09/2018 22:33

To be honest, it does look a bit 1960s rather than the 40s. Are you sure it's 80 years old and not 60?

golddustwomen · 07/09/2018 22:34

Oh wow, it's so fucking ugly, sorry op 😂

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/09/2018 22:34

Not good together but they would look good as statement individual pieces in a more quirky/traditional living room.

Fleetwoodmac2 · 07/09/2018 22:46

I'll give you £276 to burn it.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 07/09/2018 22:47

It’s actually like a
Nightmare

Really don’t like it

Gives Me the bad feels

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 07/09/2018 22:49

I’m sorry to be negative here but that is truly fucking awful

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 07/09/2018 22:52

Tethersend I love that sofa! OP yours not so much...

Definitely get rid of the chair the shape is not good and it's too much having both of them. At least reupholstering it might make it look better.

You could work on the room but tbh you'd be better off getting rid of it and starting again and lose the £275 because you'll spend ££££ on making your house fit
Unless of course you don't mind
