I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

I'd reupholster either the sofa or the armchair in the same solid color as the background color on the existing fabric.

Paint walls turquoise, and put an oriental maroon silk rug instead of the carpet.

Palmer1983 · 07/09/2018 19:13

Think it's pretty nice very different and each to there own I say Wink

ClashCityRocker · 07/09/2018 19:14

Sorry op I think it's awful. It reminds of the charity shop sofa my parents had when we were very wee.

chocatoo · 07/09/2018 19:15

I like it but I think it needs to be in a room with a high ceiling and floorboards/rugs

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 07/09/2018 19:16

Sorry OP. It’s a “no” from me. I’m no style guru but that’s just hideous IMO.

NameChanger22 · 07/09/2018 19:19

It could look nice in the right setting. I think peacock coloured walls and some oversized plants. No clutter.

Ellie56 · 07/09/2018 19:24

Nice shape but the colour is hideous and it really doesn't go in that room. PP had some good ideas though.

BedtimeTea · 07/09/2018 19:25

Not a fan.

ILoveHumanity · 07/09/2018 19:26

HOrrible lik

Brambleboo · 07/09/2018 19:26

The upholstery isn't to my taste, but I think the shape and style is fabulous, OP.

UpstartCrow · 07/09/2018 19:28

I need a tall one I can slump into.

ScienceIsTruth · 07/09/2018 19:28

I really like them, but I think it needs a wooden floor and warm autumnal tones on the walls and in the cushions, etc.

EdWinchester · 07/09/2018 19:29

It's gruesome.

allthgoodusernamesaretaken · 07/09/2018 19:30

Not to my taste, I'm afraid. Your DH sounds lovely though

Did you say you thought you had a 50 / 50 "like" rate. I think you're being a bit ambitious.....

BigGlasses · 07/09/2018 19:31

I have that chair! Exactly the same. It was originally gold with dark green pattern. I had it upholstered in denim blue 12 years ago, it needs done again though. I also have sofa and rub chair. About 100 years old. They were my great granny’s. Am off to take photos! ( may take time as I need to tidy before photos)

Morethanthisprovincallife · 07/09/2018 19:33

In the right room, painted floor boards, oil painting etc it would work, the sofa on its own but as is.. I strongly dislike

topsyanddim · 07/09/2018 19:36

@secretwitch you have a room for ‘mourning’ the dead?

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 07/09/2018 19:37

I think it looks very expensive and it and the chair are a lovely shape.
But there is a clash of styles in the room. (I actually don’t think it suits the style of your house... sorry)

Either you need a more modern suite or you need to move to a country house.

But I am in camp ‘love it’.

Belleende · 07/09/2018 19:40

That looks like the type of sofa you find dead people on in telly land.

Belleende · 07/09/2018 19:41

I hear DFS might have a sale

BigGlasses · 07/09/2018 19:42

It is needing upholstered again soon, it’s had 3kids abuse in the last 12 years!

ohdeardeardear · 07/09/2018 19:43

Hideous! Sorry OP! But glad you like it though Smile

ohdeardeardear · 07/09/2018 19:44

Also I thought from the title this would be a 'hotel suite' and when I saw the pic I thought you were being sarcastic Blush

lionsgate18 · 07/09/2018 19:45

Oh gosh. Vile, just vile. Sorry x

MorningsEleven · 07/09/2018 19:46

Ah well, at least it's only a few weeks until bonfire night.
