I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

Just read my post back and I think I sound a bit mean, I prefer to deliver criticism as a shit sandwich so I'm going to end it off with saying how lovely and clean your carpet is Grin

BunnyCarr · 08/09/2018 14:51

Urgh.
It must be teeming with dust mites.

starcrossedseahorse · 08/09/2018 14:55

In a lovely old house it would look beautiful but in a new build just no. So I would say it all depends on context.

Alpacanorange · 08/09/2018 15:01

The style I like the fabric not so much, maybe get some throws if your dh doesn’t like it.

PlainVanilla · 08/09/2018 15:12

Love the shape, but I would have to get it re-upholstered.

HoomanMoomin · 08/09/2018 16:30

Wow. That’s ugly. Confused

Bimgy85 · 08/09/2018 17:12

It looks absolutely horrible in your sitting room. Would suit a different style of room, dark floorboards high ceilings, 1920 style.

JellyBears · 08/09/2018 17:15

No it’s ugly but that’s my opinion. If you like it then that’s what’s important.

SuzieCath · 08/09/2018 17:40

They are a nice size and shape but the fabric is not my choice.

Bobbybear10 · 08/09/2018 17:47

Your sofa would look good in this room.”

That room looks absolutely divine! OP your sofa would look lovely.

Jux · 08/09/2018 17:53

It looks very like one on my Watch list on ebay. DH hates it.

diddl · 08/09/2018 17:54

I love the shape of the chair, but don't like the fabric.

Don't like the sofa at all.

If you've got a new featureless house, I don't think it will look right at all.

Love the deni blue sofa & chair pictured earlier.

Fabulous shapes & fabric.

Frazzledstar1 · 08/09/2018 17:55

Not for me I’m afraid, not keen at all

PortiaCastis · 08/09/2018 17:56

Sorry I think it's awful

bebesequin · 08/09/2018 17:58

Doesn't sit well with the house style ….grey carpet
New build kit doors etc
Might be ok in a period house
My mother had a similar one in the 70s inherited from her gran -so likely 1930s manufacture.
Even then she covered it in throws (well sheets I think- throws didn't exist in 70s Edinburgh!)
It was strong though and stood up to us 4 kids jumping fighting and generally trying to destroy it.

ToftyAC · 08/09/2018 18:01

I love the shape and design but not the horrid upholstery

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 08/09/2018 18:10

It's not to my taste OP, when I first saw it, it looks from a distance like a snake skin, (one of the Rattlesnake family perhaps?) but if you love it then you got yourself an heirloom.

I like the shape as PP has said, I personally don't like the upholstery and I'd get it cleaned and covered.

Bearbehind · 08/09/2018 18:15

Sort, another one who thinks it's hideous.

Even more so in a new build house with a modern (Ikea?) cabinet.

Not a good look.

Juells · 08/09/2018 18:30

I'm afraid I think it's horrible with that carpet. Two lots of dead colours together.

vanillapieandicecream · 08/09/2018 18:37

Not for me. As long as you like it, though.

babyno5 · 08/09/2018 18:45

Sorry OP but it’s in the wrong setting. It belongs in this house!

raisinsraisins · 08/09/2018 18:48

I quite like it. You are obviously not going to replace your carpet, but I would paint your walls a rich dark colour, and put some plain throws/cushions on the sofa.

However, I wouldn’t have it in my house as I like to sit on the sofa in my PJs before going to bed, and I’d never feel that the sofa was clean enough to do this!

Ironmanrocks · 08/09/2018 18:51

I haven't read the full thread - but really? Its 80 years old and whilst it will look fab, I can't get out of my head the fact that there is 80 years of someone else skin cells down in the crevices - even if you clean it! I would never be snuggling down on that one!!!

Ironmanrocks · 08/09/2018 18:54

Ha! I reiterate your sentiments raisins!
