I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

To think this is the most gorgeous suite you have ever seen...

Wow. That looks so uncomfortable and the pattern.......

It looks like it belongs in a large period style home sorry. Then you could make it work.

Needahairbrush · 08/09/2018 13:15

It looks like the kind of sofa Alf Garnett would die on. Snort Grin

It’s not to my taste, but I absolutely love the pictures of the velour chairs others have posted.
You need deep rich colours, brass plant pots, a mid 1900’s style bureau and side board to go with it.

QueenArseClangers · 08/09/2018 13:18

You need to do something like this:

To think this is the most gorgeous suite you have ever seen...
kmc1111 · 08/09/2018 13:21

Hideous. Also maybe it’s just the lighting in the picture or something, but the fabric looks terribly worn in places. Even if I liked it I’d have to reupholster.

Bluntness100 · 08/09/2018 13:27

I'd also assume it looks quite worn in places in real life.

There are some antique shops near us and they sell furniture, but the price is literally in the thousands and the pieces are absolutely beautiful. I'd assume for 275 quid for a suite, that the condition reflects the price.

If this wasn't a budget buy due to financial constraints id also have it refurbished.

Your sofa would look good in this room.

Eliza9917 · 08/09/2018 13:31

I don't like it.

hannnnnnnxo · 08/09/2018 13:33

Sorry but the furniture looks like it stinks

neveradullmoment99 · 08/09/2018 13:35

If that was sitting on a plush cream carpet, or oak floorboards with a beautiful rug that picked out the colours of the sofa, with walls a pale muted golden colour, a beautiful coffee table, side tables with big lamps, it would look ace Right now I'm sorry it looks really out of place and just looks like an old sofa in a rather dreary room.

So you can fix it, but it you need to fix the room round it
Exactly this.

RomanyRoots · 08/09/2018 13:36

How can something look like it smells? How ridiculous Grin

Pebblesandfriends · 08/09/2018 13:37

It doesn't really have with your room, but that's just a good excuse to redecorate Wink

neveradullmoment99 · 08/09/2018 13:37

Like its old and musty. That's how! :)

MsWinters · 08/09/2018 13:38

I love it. And I love tethersend's sofa too.

easyandy101 · 08/09/2018 13:39

@romanyroots

Cos it's a shit?

easyandy101 · 08/09/2018 13:39

Not the sofa BTW I quite like that

wowfudge · 08/09/2018 13:41

Well if want to recreate granny's living room from the mid to late 1980s, you've nailed it OP.

Clionba · 08/09/2018 13:43

Granny had taste Wink

9amtrain · 08/09/2018 13:44

It looks.. grand but disgustinG!

TigerDroveAgain · 08/09/2018 13:48

Good grief! Someone was delighted to have offloaded that stuff on you. At least when my mum shuffles off this mortal coil I know someone somewhere will be delighted with her relics.

BMW6 · 08/09/2018 13:49

Sorry OP but to me its totally MINGING!

crazydoglady6867 · 08/09/2018 13:50

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/09/2018 14:00

Agree it's a gorgeous suite, but the room needs to be properly styled around it; at the moment it all just looks a bit student-let! Definitely try a burnt orange on the walls and just go for it. I'd love to see the 'after' pictures!!

hannnnnnnxo · 08/09/2018 14:00

Well from experience?

If you saw an extreme photograph of a mouth of someone who didn’t take care of their teeth, you’d probably infer that their breath would stink.

So this furniture looks like it stinks based on the sort of house that you’d see it in (unkempt, outdated). And the pattern itself looks old and musty. It looks like if you tapped it there would be a massive cloud of dust!

PurpleRobe · 08/09/2018 14:07

Hahaha! I assume this is Poe OP?

Babykoala1 · 08/09/2018 14:12

I think they could look nice with the right interiors. In my opinion they could only work if the rest of your interiors were "high end" or had the appearance of it and were the right amount of modern and quirky. From what I can see the rest of the room looks fairly "normal" so they don't really go. Maybe if you have the time and money you could look through some magazines and get some inspiration for some new stuff to go with them but if not then I think they should be ditched PDQ
