I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

Have you just moved in to the house or redecorated? If so I think the sofa and chair are great statement pieces to build the rest of the room around. They look really good quality. Adding squishy feather cushions in a mix of plain but textured fabrics, a rug in front of the sofa, a floor lamp, a collection of prints on the wall behind the sofa, perhaps a plain foot stool or coffee table in front of the sofa will make it come together and cosier.

Yes it's beautiful but you need to glam up the room a bit. Change wall colour or put an oversize mirror/ painting and a rug.

Fluffy40 · 08/09/2018 19:05

Not for me, I need furniture with good back support.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 08/09/2018 19:07

Nothing gorgeous about it...but if you like it who cares...

musketeers123 · 08/09/2018 19:12

Totally in live with these ❤❤❤ Even more gorgeous in that space 😍😍😍. Clearly not everyone's cup of tea ... but defintely mine !!! Fabulous choice xxx

Pikehau · 08/09/2018 19:12

If you are keeping the fabric you need to repaint and make the space interesting. We are currently painting walls and ceiling a dark farrow and ball colour and adding accents of copper in light fittings tables etc. You need to create a boudoir feel but not a cheap one then it will look great.

SHapes are nice though but still needs the “mood” changed bynpaint.

Icanttakemuchmore · 08/09/2018 19:15

Definitely not my cup of tea... But then I doubt you'd like mine either.

Oldaintallthat · 08/09/2018 19:17

It's godawful.
Sorry OP

yumyumpoppycat · 08/09/2018 19:20

agree with ironrocks!

gemgemgemgemgem · 08/09/2018 19:52

Yup! Wooden floor, dark walls, opulent look- I see it!

Crazyunicornlady · 08/09/2018 20:03

Oh OP; it’s going to turn out to be a very expensive purchase if you have to buy a house to match it Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 08/09/2018 20:03

I think as a very minimum you need to get rid of the matching armchair and put a nice new chair in it's place for your dh to sit on

yumyumpoppycat · 08/09/2018 20:05

That's the crux of the problem it really doesn't go with the new grey carpet.

Yoghurty · 08/09/2018 20:07

I love this- and if you had a couple of big potted ferns or palms in the room it would look ace! I love vintage/mid century furniture Smile

PeaceRaven · 08/09/2018 20:09

I love it!! But sadly I’m not sure it goes with the rest of your decor from what I can see.

Paint, add a dado rail.. maybe some wallpaper below it, add some nick nacks, a grandfather clock and some random bellows despite their not being a fireplace and you have recreated my grandfathers house 😄😄😄

BlancheM · 08/09/2018 20:34

It's just in the wrong setting, tis all

On top of a bonfire is where it belongs where it can burn majestically!

pinkgirl1234 · 08/09/2018 20:40

😂 I agree with this ^^

I think it's ghastly and I'm a bit of an antique myself. Each to their own though.

Kidssendingmenuts · 08/09/2018 20:50

Have you had any strange goings on in your house since it went in? Because it looks haunted to me 😂😂

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 08/09/2018 20:54

Bless him. He must really love you!

Sorry but it's too busy for me. Maybe if you add a lot of plain brown cushions and a couple of plain throws ?? It's a fab shape.

Clarich007 · 08/09/2018 21:21

Oh no, sorry It's horrendous and such a depressing colour. Ditto about the dust mites and skin cells. yuck !!

nannykatherine · 08/09/2018 21:59

it’s horrific

HairyToity · 08/09/2018 22:17

Love the suite!

Kaybush · 08/09/2018 22:54

Eeeeek!!!

pinkgirl1234 · 08/09/2018 23:02

It gets worse every time I look at it. Grin

Sorry OP, don't mean to be rude.

EachPeachPearRum · 08/09/2018 23:03

That's a biology lesson waiting to happen...anyone want to swab and see what would grow?

You really shouldn't fight the architecture of your house. A house should fit and have flow not be jarring and I'm afraid that is rather jarring.

DH says it reminds him of a sofa he once sat on as a student and as he descended on to it an entire family of rats came screaming out.
