Vulvas

What's all this vulva chat about, lately when I've seen any front bottom chat on here it's all vulva this and vulva that. Surely people don't call it their vulva in real life when talking to someone about it.

What do you call yours?

Strange. It was always vulva to me - I knew what it was from a really young age!

I hardly ever say vagina?

It takes all sorts. I am only worried if people don't understand what each bit is for and what it looks like - what they choose to call it day to day is their business. I do think using the term vagina instead of vulva just makes someone sound a bit thick though.

Orlandointhewilderness · 05/09/2018 13:03

BananaToffo said it exactly. I'll call it what I damn well want too - I know the correct medical terminology but if I want to call it 'bits' 'foof' or 'cunt' then I will as it is MINE to name, not yours!

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/09/2018 13:09

What were you allergic to EBearhug?

chasinggarlic · 05/09/2018 13:19

Surely people don't call it their vulva in real life when talking to someone about it.

I was going to say I don't talk to people in real life about it but then I realised just this morning I announced to DH that I had a manky minge Grin

Note: I have a flare up of psoriasis atm

MsHomeSlice · 05/09/2018 13:21

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/09/2018 13:23

Juells · 05/09/2018 13:47

The two little ones call it a Ginie.

Ginie pronounced gyny? I think that's brilliant!

0hCrepe · 05/09/2018 13:48

If you want to call it vulva that’s fine, no ones stopping you, but it’s really tedious when the vulva police turn up on any thread where it isn’t named with the ‘correct’ term and start banging on about it.
And you really have deeper issues than labelling difficulties if you think you can get pregnant through anal. Similarly, technical terms didn’t impact on my sexual development and enjoyment.

Fink · 05/09/2018 13:48

I used to call it some slang words before I had dc. None of them were words I wanted to teach a child so I started using 'vulva' as a way to teach them. I would only say vulva now, it wouldn't seem natural to say anything else.

MysweetAudrina · 05/09/2018 13:54

Fanny, minge, gee, twat, cunt, fandango, vag, vagina, clunge, pussy, mychina, I have used all, can't say I have ever used vulva though.

Still managed to have children, sex, orgasms and waxes without too much difficulty .

mychina is what my dd10 calls her i have no idea why. it is also male as in she refers to it as a he. I have no idea why either.

Juells · 05/09/2018 14:01

Fanny, minge, gee, twat, cunt fandango vag, vagina clunge, pussy, mychina I have used all

Gosh, I find them very insulting. If anyone referred to my genital organs with those words I'd cringe. Never heard of mychina before.

SalemBlackCat · 05/09/2018 14:04

"FurryDice, whats the difference between a vaginas and a vulva?"

See? This is EXACTLY WHY it is important that we use the correct names. It is so sad that a woman doesn't even know and needs to evenask that question.

A vagina is INTERNAL, and can't be seen unless you are a doctor with a torch (flashlight). Vulva refers to the labia and clitoris. Basically everything down there. Vagina ONLY refers to the internal birth canal. The correct name for the female anatomy and genitalia down there is the vulva. People wrongly call it all the vagina, when the vagina is INTERNAL and cannot be seen. The vulva, is the female genitalia as a whole.

Mine's a fandango.Everyone else's is a mere fanny Smile

0hCrepe · 05/09/2018 14:15

Google nhs vagina and it comes up with a page of what it calls vagina problems. 90% of them relate to the external area or refer to the opening of the vagina. Assuming it was written by medical professionals, they seem ok with not using the term vulva.

The ironic thing is that the Vulva Police are often the same ones who condemn the SPAG Police for correcting others' language usage on threads. It's two sides of the same coin, putting someone down for not ' 'talking proper' or not being as 'edumacated' when their meaning is actually quite clear. If you know the difference and want to use the precise physiological terminology then great, do it, but don't be dictating how others express themselves.

TheActualLastJedi · 05/09/2018 14:27

I change the name depending on who I'm speaking too.

I once hit my genitals on a corner of the table in work (it really hurt) and I exclaimed "ohh I've just hit my fucking foof on the table"

If I have a medical issue I'll differentiate between vulva/vagina to Dr/Nurse/HCP

DH has his preferred nickname for it and my son refers to boys have a penis girls have a 'gina.

So it's name changes dependant on the situation.

0hCrepe · 05/09/2018 14:30

I know where to find definitions and that wasn’t my point. Medics obviously know and expect people to use the term vagina rather than vulva, to the extent that they do too in material for the public. Just as they say the outside of your ear rather than pinna. Language has evolved in such a way that vagina has become the term for the whole area for many people and has been taken on board in schools, hospital and media.
Oh and next time you’re policing maybe you should tell the vagina monologues women they’ve got their name wrong!

Chill ya boots people....

I call it a 'fanny' or 'fan', fanjo or pussy also know as 'under- crackers' or 'giblets'

Juells · 05/09/2018 14:45

'Have you washed your under-crackers?'

I thought under-crackers meant knickers/underpants

Rebecca36 · 05/09/2018 14:57

I also thought undercrackers meant underpants.

I remember once, many years ago, a lady telling me she was going into hospital to be sterilised 'through the gusset' as opposed to external incision (that's usual now but was less so then). I had no idea what she meant!
