Vulvas

What's all this vulva chat about, lately when I've seen any front bottom chat on here it's all vulva this and vulva that. Surely people don't call it their vulva in real life when talking to someone about it.

What do you call yours?

I thought under-crackers meant knickers/underpants

It totally does

deydododatdodontdeydo · 05/09/2018 15:11

Can't believe people are jealous that men have the oh-so-lovely name penis while we have to put up with vagina Hmm
Since when was penis a nice word?
I mean, they're just words really, who decides which is nice and which isn't?

Juells · 05/09/2018 15:14

sterilised 'through the gusset'

I kinda like that Grin

MistressoftheYoniverse · 05/09/2018 15:22

Not in my house Wink

donajimena · 05/09/2018 15:28

You are all incorrect. Its an undercarriage! Grin

Ballsofmush · 05/09/2018 15:50

Drummingisfun it wouldn’t surprise me if on that show (Naked Attraction I believe) they actually did start to show the women’s vaginas, followed by a scene where you see the men’s prostate glands

nocoolnamesleft · 05/09/2018 15:54

FurryDice, whats the difference between a vaginas and a vulva? I've had one for 38 years and don't know.

I'm very comfortable with my sexual organs and confident in their use.

I'm finding it very hard to rationalise these two statements. And if there are adult women can honestly not know the difference between the vulva and vagina, then clearly there really is a need for people to be choosing to publicly make accurate use of the correct terminology.

prettybird · 05/09/2018 16:10

In Glasgow, P1 children get taught both vulva and penis when they are learning the names for parts of the body, alongside foot , arm , head , leg etc Smile

It actually also helps teachers not to miss potential abuse because the children are taught the real names and not euphemisms.

RibbonAurora · 05/09/2018 16:13

In my experience, doctors and nurses don't need the patients to know the precise clinical term for every part of the human body - that's their job. As long as the patient can describe where the problem is - in this case inside or outside - the medically-trained personnel should be able to figure it out.

MirriVan^But, some people might genuinely not know. The right term. They might prefer to use the correct term if they did know. How are they going to know if people don't tell them?

These demands to be allowed to be wrong without it being mentioned are just....weird^

And some people might genuinely not know SPAG but no one likes a pedantic know-all who bustles in correcting them. If you model using the correct word and someone asks for an explanation or enlightenment fine but as long as a person's meaning is clear no need to correct what is perfectly comprehensible.

Rebecca36 · 05/09/2018 16:48

What I don't get is why people are hung up about the word, 'Vulva'?
It describes the entire undercarriage area- pisshole, minge and folding surroundings!

The vagina is the one in the middle, between urethra and anus ( not counting the perineum :-)).

I suppose you could say ..... Volvo. Now there's an idea.

chasinggarlic · 05/09/2018 16:54

DH and I actually refer to Volvos as vulvas Grin

I was gonna comment but you've all said it all.
Excellent posts @MirriVan

BeyondAnOmnishambles · 05/09/2018 18:20

Vag would be a day to day term, though I have taught the kids that the vagina is only the tube bit.

At the drs (say, if I'm also in the middle of a psoriasis flare, chasinggarlic! Flowers ) I'd use labia majora/minora, mons pubis, bartholin gland (when my bloody bollock makes a reappearance Angry ). But then I'm a dick Grin

GorgonLondon · 05/09/2018 18:29

The words fanny/fanjo/minge all make me curl up with embarrassment. They are so twee and wannabe-cutesy. It reminds me of people going for 'a cheeky Nandos'.

I say 'cunt' when speaking to adult friends/partner. Don't think I've ever needed to use a specific word to doctors, nurses, etc. Have taught my kids the correct words (vulva and vagina, penis) and it doesn't seem to cause them any trauma.

CheeseAndOnionIceCream · 05/09/2018 18:38

'Fucking organs' describes them perfectly. Grin

lennyisnuts · 05/09/2018 18:43

I say vulva A LOT on the appropriate threads but that's because I'm a sexual health nurse and specialise in all things vagina and Vulva. Bloody marvellous bits of biology!

Donthugmeimscared · 05/09/2018 18:47

I didn't even know it was called that. Plus my 7yr old came home saying boys have penises and girls front bums are called vaginas after his body awareness lessons so it's not just me not knowing. Not that I ever say it if I have to go to the drs a red faced mumble of "down there" seems to work.

0hCrepe · 05/09/2018 18:49

I think it’s rude to correct someone even when they’re wrong, when you know what they mean, unless they have asked you to, for example if they’re learning correct English or you’re their teacher.

BertrandRussell · 05/09/2018 18:57

So just me thinks it's a feminist issue then? Oh well, been there before!Grin

TotHappy · 05/09/2018 18:58

I say vag. I know what i mean. I can explain if others don't.

My least favourite is 'snatch'. What a disgusting word for female genitals. They're NOT something to snatch - ask nicely.

Ukelou · 05/09/2018 19:06

Does no one remember David walliams as vulva in spaced, thats all i think about when hearing the word vulva and here he is

Vulvas
TheWholeHog · 05/09/2018 19:15

What words are people teaching their children then, to refer to that area?

I’ve recently potty trained Dd and had a bit of an internal dilemma about what to call the bits she needs to wipe after a pee. I very nearly called it her “front bottom” until I had a flashback to TeenageMe taking the absolUte piss out of my mother for using that term. So I went with vulva instead. She can pronounce it quite well.

BeyondAnOmnishambles · 05/09/2018 19:16

Nah, I agree Bert!

MeMyselfand · 05/09/2018 19:27

0hCrepe I agree with you
