We have booked and paid to go to London for a concert tomorrow night.
Leaving at 6.30 pm tonight
She rang a hour ago saying she was ill with sickness bug and can't go.
It's too late to find anyone else to go.
So I'm loosing out on £90 train
£150 hotel and £79 concert ticket :-(
Do I go alone?
I know I won't enjoy it alone tho
Tomorrow was meant to be shopping then concert ..coming home on Saturday
Gutted

OP, I've come a bit late to this thread but I'd definitely go. Download the Citymapper app and you won't ever get lost and Wicked is really worth seeing.

Uchafi · 30/08/2018 19:55

Oh just seen this, really hope you've gone x

pippy002 · 30/08/2018 20:01

I'm on the train (I feel like Rachael ..."did she got off the plane ") ha ha
I'm nervous as hell !!
But my friend has said depending how she is feeling in the morning she might drive down.
Can any London based people tell me
When I get off train at Kings cross ...where is KC tube station?
Can I access it from train ?

It’s easy to find. Follow the signs for the underground or ask a guard.

pippy002 · 30/08/2018 20:02

It's two nights ..tonight and tomorrow
Train home 1pm on Saturday eeek

I went to see Wicked this week. It was brilliant. You will be so absorbed with it you won't need someone you know sitting next to you to enjoy it! London is buzzing after theatre shows - there will be hundreds of people heading for the tube afterwards. The theatre is virtually opposite Victoria train station.
If you decide to go I hope you have a fabulous time.

Ginger1982 · 30/08/2018 20:03

You'll have a blast!! Enjoy yourself!

ShinyMe · 30/08/2018 20:03

It's all integrated OP, you'll be fine. Just look for the underground logo and follow the majority of the crowd.

Glad you've gone - you'll be fine. I do London and theatre in general on my own regularly and it's fine. It's no different to doing anything else on your own. And you won't even notice in the theatre.

shakeyourcaboose · 30/08/2018 20:04

Good stuff Pippy! The start of an awfully big adventure! (Can't remember what book that's from but we always used it as children at home for anything outwith our norm!)

supadupapupascupa · 30/08/2018 20:04

Ha e a lovely lovely time op! Get off the train when you get to KC and follow everyone else off the platform. Normally I head leftish inside the building for the tube. But don’t panic if you end up outside. Take a deep breathe, look for signs, ask a stranger :-)

Abitlost2015 · 30/08/2018 20:05

If you have time when you get off at King’s Cross walk outside to the Canopy Market, lovely food there

Angelil · 30/08/2018 20:06

Go alone. I often do this sort of thing by myself. I just find other people distracting at events like these tbh.

erinaceus · 30/08/2018 20:07

Enjoy! Welcome to London! Agree with others - to get from the train platforms to the tube and Kings Cross you don't need to go outside, just follow the signs.

I also agree with someone else that if you post in chat that you have a spare ticket you might find an mnetter who can use it?

sunstarsmoon · 30/08/2018 20:07

The tube station is easy to find. I didn't know London at all when I went down but I found it ok and mange to get on the right train lol. Have a fab time.

OddBoots · 30/08/2018 20:10

I am glad you went, I hope your friend is well enough to join you tomorrow but I am sure you will have a wonderful time anyway.

DickTERFin · 30/08/2018 20:12

I really hope you’re on the train OP.

For what it’s worth, I used to work in a West End box office and people came on their own all the time, it is a very common occurrence to sell single seats to business people/tourists etc. The staff won’t bat an eyelid and the other audience members won’t know, everybody is so wrapped up in their own experience that they just won’t notice or care.

Also, Wicked is fab and you’ll kick yourself for missing it, especially if you’ve got good seats.

As for the shopping trip. If you can go to the supermarket on your own, you can go shopping in London on your own, there is reallly very little difference apart from the fact that it’s unfamiliar territory. Transport is a piece of piss (and I promise that if you get a bit confused there are always people to hand who will help if you pop into a shop or cafe. Don’t ask people on the street, only because they are likely to be tourists too and won’t know and you may get disheartened).

Lots of people will be pottering about on their own, having lunch on their break blah, blah, blah - just take a book or your phone with earphones or mumsnet, honestly a person eating alone in London is utterly unremarkable, there is no need to feel self conscious at all.

Robin2323 · 30/08/2018 20:13

Brilliant!
My sister has seen it twice.
Lucky you xxx

hendricksy · 30/08/2018 20:15

Wicked is at Victoria isn't it ? Just go and see it and come home straight away .

AhhhhThatsBass · 30/08/2018 20:15

Well done OP. Have a fabulous time.

Vanillamanilla1 · 30/08/2018 20:17

I'm going to the Anthony Joshua fight in September by myself .. I don't give a shiny shit .. love it
Go !!

DickTERFin · 30/08/2018 20:18

Well done OP!

KC is very well signposted just take your time, don’t let the hustle and bustle startle you but if you feel a bit panicked, ask a staff member, they’ll see you right.

Member745520 · 30/08/2018 20:20

So glad you are on your way pippy and here are some Flowers for you in case the hotel room is a bit lacking! It's decades since I've been to London but I used regularly to nip up there when I lived only 20 miles away and wandered all over. I remember my mum often used to take me there for the day as a child and we both loved it.

Have a wonderful time. Smile

Mouikey · 30/08/2018 20:20

So glad you have gone - you will have an awesome time. I went to see Ewan McGregor in Guys and Dolls about 9 times, always preferring to see it alone. It is different going tot he theatre alone than a concert/gig, mainly because you can talk to the next person about the band/artist (I’ve made many a lovely friend that way and know many who travel Europe following a certain band on their own and having an amazing time).

As a total aside is you like Japanese food (non-sushi), try Abeno or Abeno-Too one is off Leicester Square and the other on Museum Street - its Okynomiyaki and I love it - totally fantastic and I often go and eat alone!

Enjoy you few days away!

SometimesMaybe · 30/08/2018 20:21

Well done OP! You are going to have a ball!

brizzledrizzle · 30/08/2018 20:22

go on your own, you don't need to go with somebody else.
