We have booked and paid to go to London for a concert tomorrow night.
Leaving at 6.30 pm tonight
She rang a hour ago saying she was ill with sickness bug and can't go.
It's too late to find anyone else to go.
So I'm loosing out on £90 train
£150 hotel and £79 concert ticket :-(
Do I go alone?
I know I won't enjoy it alone tho
Tomorrow was meant to be shopping then concert ..coming home on Saturday

Wicked is great and you will really enjoy it.

Me and DH go to the theatre quite a lot and I have seen people on their own. No one takes any notice.

We often end up talking before the show and in the interval to other people there so if you were feeling a bit lonely I am sure people would chat to you.

London is a lot safer than people think and a lot friendlier. We don't live there any more but go back about once a month. We chat to people on buses, on the tube, in shops etc.

The tubes are always crowded even late at night with a real mixture of people - all different ages so you will be fine

fishonabicycle · 30/08/2018 18:23

Go! Wicked is easy to find! London is great! If you want I will find you and take you to the theatre (am having after work drinks tomorrow very near Victoria station).

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 30/08/2018 18:29

Definitely go. Wicked is thought at the tube, you couldn't miss it off you tried. It's an amazing show. If you don't fancy eating out alone, order up a pizza, room service or bring a luxury picnic to have in your room. (God I'd love that right now, and to see wicked again!)

SequinsOnEverything · 30/08/2018 18:32

I hope you have gone. I'd love to do that by myself. I recently went to the cinema by myself and really enjoyed it. I found it strangely empowering.

Last time I went to the theatre I was sat nowhere near the person I went with anyway, there were no cheap seats next to each other and I figured you don't talk during the show anyway so it didn't matter.

ladymariner · 30/08/2018 18:58

Such lovely people giving great advice on here tonight, really nice to read.

Op, I feel for you, but I agree that this could be a fantastic opportunity for you. A similar thing happened to me a few years ago, but I gritted my teeth and went on my own, my reasoning being that I could always come home, and ended up having a great time.

Glumglowworm · 30/08/2018 19:01

Definitely go alone!

The money is spent now anyway, so might as well make the best of it.

AdelesBeard · 30/08/2018 19:03

I've been to loads of west end shows on my own when in London for work. You certainly wont be the only person by themselves and even if you are, no one will give a hoot. You just get in your seat and enjoy the show!

AngeloMysterioso · 30/08/2018 19:04

I’ll go with you OP, I’ve wanted to see that show for ages! Grin

macondo · 30/08/2018 19:05

I’m slightly jealous that you’ll get a whole night and day to yourself 😂

Pinkandproud · 30/08/2018 19:09

Just read the thread hoping for an update!

If you didn’t, don’t worry about saying so! Anxiety is a real bitch Flowers

IslaMann · 30/08/2018 19:09

I hope you’re on the train now!
I’m a little jealous, I’d love 2 days in London on my own.

Nononononono33 · 30/08/2018 19:12

Ooh I hope you go and enjoy it, much like everyone else on this thread I would do exactly that, go on my own and enjoy the theatre, bars, nice hotel etc. And as a pp mentioned the Leinster Gardens thing is quite cool...

FocusOnMePlease · 30/08/2018 19:13

Are you mad at your flaky friend? I'd be furious. If I were in her shoes I'd rather dose myself up on cold and flu capsules and get on with it than let down a friend so badly!

Oh yeah the well known proven to work medical advice of taking flu and cold capsules to stop a sickness bug Hmm

Knob!

tigercub50 · 30/08/2018 19:14

Please come back & let us know how you got on OP. I have seen Wicked twice - best show ever!

DroningOn · 30/08/2018 19:18

If you cancel she'll feel even worse.

Definitely go alone

Rachie1986 · 30/08/2018 19:19

Definitely go, if it's all booked you may as well. I get anxious and feel weird about things too, but honestly, you'll be fine and will love wicked, I'm sure x

mintich · 30/08/2018 19:21

Go alone!

Amanduh · 30/08/2018 19:23

Go go go! London is amazing, Wicked is amazing. Tubes and roads etc will be busy and bustling, well lit and staffed, easy to navigate. Have an amazing time!

Doodlebug5 · 30/08/2018 19:31

Ah I wish I'd seen this earlier... I would have happily taken the extra ticket. I'd love to see wicked but OH hates the theatre.

I'm hoping you have gone!

BlueJava · 30/08/2018 19:32

Go! enjoy without her!

ilovesooty · 30/08/2018 19:38

I hope you've gone. I travel to London on my own quite a lot and your hotel is in a dead safe area.

IAmLordVoldemort · 30/08/2018 19:40

Yeah she’s not going.

AnnieAnoniMoose · 30/08/2018 19:42

I hope you’re on the train now. If not, get the next one. You can do this. You’ll feel empowered afterwards. London really is NOT this big scary place. It’s busy with lots of ‘normal’ people going to shows, out for dinner etc. Yes, it has its ‘dodgy’ areas, like any big city, but they’re not the theatre district or where you’re staying. UBer if you’d prefer, it won’t cost much.

Go on...you CAN do it.

Oh and no one will notice or care that you’re wicked on your own. Loads people go to the theatre alone.

INeedNewShoes · 30/08/2018 19:44

London is chock full of people on their own getting on with doing things they like, including going to the theatre, cinema, restaurants by themselves. You'll not be noticeable at all for being alone.

I really really hope you're on your way OP.

IThinkILoveAI · 30/08/2018 19:46

I hope you went OP. You’ll be absolutely fine. Wicked is amazing!
