We have booked and paid to go to London for a concert tomorrow night.
Leaving at 6.30 pm tonight
She rang a hour ago saying she was ill with sickness bug and can't go.
It's too late to find anyone else to go.
So I'm loosing out on £90 train
£150 hotel and £79 concert ticket :-(
Do I go alone?
I know I won't enjoy it alone tho
Tomorrow was meant to be shopping then concert ..coming home on Saturday
Gutted

Enjoy OP, wish I lived in London so I could do you a favour and have the spare ticket lol. I've been to London a few times alone, always felt safe and once even made drinking buddies in a restaurant where 3 of us sat individually to eat. Woman next to me got chatting to me then in next pub bloke recognised us but had assumed we were already friends. We stayed out till late and then I met him again the next night for dinner (and I mean dinner not 😉😉dinner) Never saw each other again lol

ukgift2016 · 30/08/2018 20:22

Hope you have a good time! go you :)

magpie24 · 30/08/2018 20:24

Well done! As someone who also suffers with anxiety I was reading along willing you to go. I hope you have a great time. Any London advice just ask, I've been here 10 years. King's cross tube is easy to get to from a mainline train, easily signposted and not far.

SilverHairedCat · 30/08/2018 20:26

Fabulous news OP, I'm so excited for you!! You'll have a ball.

I have an app on my phone - works offline - with all the rube stations on it. It also works out the routes for you.

almightygirl · 30/08/2018 20:26

Yay, so glad you’re going!!

AlbusPercival · 30/08/2018 20:27

I have seen wicked alone.

In the theatre no one even noticed.

It’s a fabulous show

LemonysSnicket · 30/08/2018 20:29

There is a horrid bug going round right now tbh, half of our office is off with it ( me included) I'd love to see wicked 😭

GabsAlot · 30/08/2018 20:40

hope u enjoy your trip

on the tube make sure yur card is contactless first before trying to tap it or it wont work

it is cheaper than using cash

wicked is great saw it in april

nocoolnamesleft · 30/08/2018 20:42

You can not just do this, you can enjoy it. I've gone down to London on my own for fun a few times. Nice hotel, booked a show, bit of shopping. Okay, yes, I'm never doing the tube again, but that's just because of how commuters treat the mobility impaired. The rest of it is fine,

@pippy002 what time is it on tomorrow? I’ll come (seriously, I’ve just split from my husband and I need new friends 😆)

CandleWithHair · 30/08/2018 20:53

Well done OP! I promise you that even if your friend can’t make it tomorrow you will have an amazing time. London really is the perfect place to sightsee solo and not for even one second feel like you stick out! It’s too busy for anyone to notice!
And please don’t worry about logistics, Londoners are nothing like the stereotype - people are friendly and will happily help you out with directions etc if you need it. The theatre is also easy solo, no one chats during shows anyway!

Have a grand day out, and I hope your friend can make it for the show.

LittleKitty1985 · 30/08/2018 20:54

Hey, just wanted to give an explanation for the people calling me silly (or ruder things):

I think it's hard for me to believe people when they cancel plans due to "sickness" because it's such a common lie that people tell when they want to get out of doing something. For example I've phoned in "sick" to work because I had something else to do that day, but I've genuinely never in my whole life been so sick that I couldn't work. I must just have a really good immune system. Also integrity in friendships is really important to me, I never cancel plans last minute & my friends know me better than than to cancel plans for flaky reasons.

But that's just my personal bias, I'm sure it was the wrong comment to make in this case as what would she have to gain by lying? I hope I haven't caused offence OP.

Pinkandproud · 30/08/2018 21:01

Well done! Also a Londoner here so any questions or need directions please ask :) I’m always wandering around London by myself and so are lots of others - honestly it’s totally normal.

Citymapper is a good map for finding your way around Smile you can’t go wrong with it

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/08/2018 21:02

I ended up pregnant shortly after (nothing to do with the weekends away from home

Don't believe you - you came home a seething mass of sexual frustration and ravished your beloved on the hall carpet before you'd even taken your wellies off !

THAT'S how you ended up with a baby. Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/08/2018 21:06

Pippy - Just read your updates.

I'm so PROUD of you! You'll have an amazing time.

bridgetoc · 30/08/2018 21:08

Get a grip and go alone......

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 30/08/2018 21:08

Have a wonderful time! I have always found London very fun and friendly despite its reputation.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 30/08/2018 21:12

My god I absolutely hate musicals....

...but I absolutely cried like a baby at Wicked and have seriously considered going to it secretly alone myself.

Have fun. And don’t be scared. London is ok.

MyNameIsNotSteven · 30/08/2018 21:14

Definitely go alone, but I would hope your friend is still paying her share of costs, as I'm sure you would if you were unexpectedly unable to attend.

arethereanyleftatall · 30/08/2018 21:17

Op, I've just got back from wicked today. It is absolutely and utterly awesome. Best show I've seen. So so good. I'm still on a high.

sandyoh · 30/08/2018 21:22

Go! I love Wicked. I may as well go on my own as I get so into it. I am the other end of the UK or I'd have come along with you :-)

sandyoh · 30/08/2018 21:24

Sorry should have rtft. So glad! I'm a bit jealous!

bangourvillagebesttimeever · 30/08/2018 21:32

Have a great time! You wont get lost and there are plenty of signs at the train station to the underground. I have lived in london now for 25yrs and still love it. Get out and about and see the sights! Hopefully your friend can make it down tomorrow

LarryFreakinStylinson · 30/08/2018 21:34

littlekitty You’ve never been so ill you couldn’t work yet you’ve called in sick because you’ve got other stuff on yet you say integrity is important to you?! 🤣🤣 you just keep on digging!
