We have booked and paid to go to London for a concert tomorrow night.
Leaving at 6.30 pm tonight
She rang a hour ago saying she was ill with sickness bug and can't go.
It's too late to find anyone else to go.
So I'm loosing out on £90 train
£150 hotel and £79 concert ticket :-(
Do I go alone?
I know I won't enjoy it alone tho
Tomorrow was meant to be shopping then concert ..coming home on Saturday
Gutted

Oh my Lord, don’t miss Wicked!!! It’s a fantastic show and nobody will even bat an eyelid seeing you on your own. Trust me. I wouldn’t have been able to tell who was on their own when I watched it.

GettingAwayWithIt · 30/08/2018 17:06

Also to consider: while other people may be out in pairs and groups, many of them might as well be on their own as they either barely speak to each other or are staring at their phones.

abacucat · 30/08/2018 17:07

Also sometimes hotel rooms on your own can be lonely. Especially if you are not used to sleeping alone. But just put on the TV and watch something trashy but fun, or comment on MN.

esk1mo · 30/08/2018 17:08

go Smile i’ve travelled to and around London alone since i was 16

halcyondays · 30/08/2018 17:10

I'd just go on my own. It's far worse for your friend, of course she can't possibly go with a sickness bug . And people who do go out with one and spread their germs are extremely selfish.

Nanny0gg · 30/08/2018 17:13

Go!

You'll enjoy it and be very pleased with yourself that you went.

abacucat · 30/08/2018 17:14

Also doing things like this does help to reduce anxiety and build self confidence. It is fine to be scared. But it will be okay.

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 30/08/2018 17:15

Oh do go on your own! It’ll be great!
I’d love to go to London on my own, see a show, go shopping, stay in a hotel, order room service - lovely luxurious me time!!

If you’re worried about the tube, get taxi’s

Enjoy!!

WhereIsMyDressingGown · 30/08/2018 17:17

Go on your own!! Have a look around the shops and go to the concert! Just because your friend isn't going is no reason why you shouldn't go and have a good time!

BlueSky198080 · 30/08/2018 17:19

If I had any money to get to London via train I’d offer to come and keep you company (read really wants to see Wicked!Wink) any MN’s that can come with you??

Holidayshopping · 30/08/2018 17:19

I would go alone. Has she already paid her half of any costs-hotel etc?

Rosevi · 30/08/2018 17:19

Leinster Gardens are very safe ( I lived in number 9 for three years) and would walk home at all hours (and in all states!) and never encountered any problems.

Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park are at the end of the road if you prefer a wander around there tomorrow.

Go for it! Wicked is epic!

ExBbqQueen · 30/08/2018 17:20

I Married with kids. my FAVOURITE thing is going to the theatre on my own after dinner on my own. I love it!!

Go - you will be fine. Glass of wine in the interval & before the show. Don’t have to talk to anyone. Bliss.

abacucat · 30/08/2018 17:26

Yes I would come too if I could afford the train.
I do hope you go OP.
To make this really easy you could -
Before you get on train buy sandwich/salad, etc and eat on the train.
Get to hotel. I would print off a little map of how to get there including directions. You are central so it should be very easy.
Check in to hotel and open bottle of wine and chocolate you have brought with you. Have a bath and go to bed and watch TV while drinking wine and eating chocolate. Post on MN if you are feeling anxious and need to talk.
Saturday have breakfast at hotel.
Go for walk in Hyde Park - literally at end of road
Go and look around shops.
Have a substantial lunch somewhere,
Go and look round shops or museum.
Buy something to take back to room later
Go to Wicked.
Go back to hotel via tube and walk or taxi and have wine and chocolate in room.
Next day breakfast in hotel then home.

CanYouHearThat · 30/08/2018 17:28

Definitely go. If you have a wobble, post here and we'll all support you.
Just think how proud of yourself you'll be afterwards.

abacucat · 30/08/2018 17:29

If you are worried about being at Wicked by yourself, get to theatre in plenty of time, but dont go in and sit down until just before so you are not sitting there for long without anything happening. You can always just wander around as if you are looking for someone. Then in interval go to toilet. That will take up the whole interval and most people in the queue will be there by themselves in the queue.

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/08/2018 17:36

Go alone and put your ticket on Twickets or a Facebook group linked to the artist. I’ve done this before with a theatre ticket, met the buyer just before the gig and actually made a good friend! We had a few drinks afterwards.

onetimeposter · 30/08/2018 17:37

God anxiety sounds shit.
Id bloody love the chance to go to london and do all that, my preference would be to go alone.
If you are ill you call 111 or home
If you get lost you ask.
Its exciting, i never feel so free as in a big city at night on my own.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/08/2018 17:37

She has a sickness bug, and there is not much you can do. Even if she stopped being sick by tomorrow, she might still be infectious and won't be well at all to enjoy it. It really wipes you out. Is there a friend you could go with.

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/08/2018 17:38

Just read it’s Wicked, you will be fine! I go to the theatre alone loads as DH works in theatre so can rarely go!

SilverHairedCat · 30/08/2018 17:42

Go! I went to see it on my own a few month ago, was in London for work. Its a fabulous show, you'll love it.

Go go go go!!

BouleBaker · 30/08/2018 17:46

Go and keep posting while you do. We'll all talk to you and support you.

Wicked is great and there is so much to do in London. What are your interests and we'll find some things for you to do?

witherwings · 30/08/2018 17:54

Do it, do it, do it. It will be amazing, what I wouldn't give for 48 hours on my own!
I have Kids and if a friend called me and asked I would be there.

BakedBeans47 · 30/08/2018 17:56

Given that you won’t get any money back, I would go alone, but then I do a lot of things on my own (rather than not do them at all) and I generally enjoy myself. And surely at a concert you’re concentrating on the performance, it’s not like it’s a restaurant meal for two.

This. If I didn’t go on my own to a lot of things I’d never go.

LuluJakey1 · 30/08/2018 17:57

Oh I hope you go OP. I am not the most confident of people but I know I would absolutely love a night in a London hotel by myself, a day's shopping or at mueums/galleries and a show. I don't know the hotel but it is a good, safe location. Go and enjoy yourself.
