Just that really.... inspired by the recent sticker campaign.... "Women can't have penises" and "Some women have penises"....

Simple question - simple answer.

Me - Yes, I believe women can't have penises.

I'm a woman. I don't have a penis and I don't want one, thank you.

helpawomanout · 28/08/2018 17:35

Where were all these penised women when women were being oppressed and treated as second class citizens? They didn't join our fight for equality at any point. Instead they just want to take away what we have fought so hard to get.

Disgusting male privilege.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 28/08/2018 17:35

People can change sex

Do tell me more.

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 17:35

Precisely. Which makes it silly to focus on possessing a penis as the sole arbiter

It really doesn't. If you have a penis you are a man. If you are a man without a penis you are still a man. But since almost all men do have penises, and penises have historically not been great things for women, it seems like a fairly accurate thing to focus on.

Gersemi · 28/08/2018 17:35

AnEPlease, precisely who put you in charge of who is allowed to join the discussion?

Frequency · 28/08/2018 17:36

and i let the students at my school know that their sexual organs don’t equate to gender necessarily

Well, as gender is a meaningless social construct, it can change meaning. Sex is a physical fact. The male sex organ is a penis. If you are born with one, your sex is male. If you later present as a different gender your sex is male. You cannot change your sex. It's simply not possible.

In spaces separated by sex, you are male. We need to start separating sex from gender. They are not the same thing and very few things (if any) are segregated by gender.

@Bombardier25966
Threads like this give Mumsnet a bad name.

Live and let live people. Love not hate.

Women aka female humans aka a human with xx chromosomes still don't have penises.

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 17:38

AnEPlease, precisely who put you in charge of who is allowed to join the discussion?

Nobody. Just pointing out that if you haven;t understood the main terms used and keep mixing them up, there isn't any point in engaging with you? Do you disagree? If you were talking about dresses and someone didn't know the difference between black and white, or a dress and trousers, would you bother asking their opinion on your clothes?

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 28/08/2018 17:38

the suicide rates for transgender people who are mocked and belittled for the way they feel are terrifying

The suicide rates for trans people are high.

But - there is zero proof that the suicide rate has anything at all to do with feeling mocked or belittled.

Those suicide rates don't take into account any comorbidities e,g, trans teens very often also have depression, anorexia and other mental health conditions.

Depression is much more likely to lead to suicide than people not bending over backwards to validate your identity.

ADastardlyThing · 28/08/2018 17:39

I've said it a few times, but I get genuinely feel sorry for trans people who are satisfied by a pat on the head and a "there there, yes you are a woman, totally".

I don't know about other women on this thread, but I cannot fucking stand being patronised and humoured and neither can any of the women I know IRL.

Most of the men I know OTOH......a bit of ego stroking and soothing noises is just the ticket to make them feel fine again.

Funny that.

BiologyIsReal · 28/08/2018 17:40

can’t say for certain what else leads someone to realise they are trans, as I’m cis, but their feelings are VALID and they deserve to be treated in a way that makes them feel comfortable.

Yup and if that makes the many women feel uncomfortable or unsafe, well just fuck 'em, they're only women after all.

There Genz: fixed what you really wanted to say but being socialised as a good little lady from childhood, don't feel you can.

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 17:40

the suicide rates for transgender people who are mocked and belittled for the way they feel are terrifying

Thats just more bullying of women. "you have to call me a woman with a penis because if you don't I'll kill myself and it will be your fault" is essentially the message.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/08/2018 17:40

No women has ever or will ever have a penis

Some women may have surgery and have a false penis like some men may have surgery to have a false vagina

dontbringmedown · 28/08/2018 17:41

Transgender women are a sub culture/sub set of men, not a ‘new and improved’ set of women.

This statement is at the crux of everything.
Women, should not have to budge over to enable men (who nine times out of ten, have chucked on a frock but have still retained their ADULT MALE, FULLY FUNCTIONING GENITALIA) feel more comfortable.

Get your own bloody safe spaces.

BiologyIsReal · 28/08/2018 17:42

Unless of course you are a man, in which case you are socialised to give a damn either.

@paintedwingsandgiantrings

You’ve either not seen this, or you’re so lacking in compassion and empathy your soul may as well be dead.

Peartree17 · 28/08/2018 17:44

Haven't read the whole thread and my brain starts to scramble around female-woman-sex-gender-biology. FWIW: no, women don't have penises, some transwomen do. Do I think transwomen are women, no I don't. Sometimes this is going to matter, sometimes not. For example, if you are a transwoman and you want to be referred to by grammatically female pronouns, fine and dandy. If you want to use the same changing room, or loo, as me, tally-ho. I don't care if I even see your penis while you're doing it (although that would be unusual in women's loo). If you commit a crime and have to go to prison, well...that would need to be considered case-by-case: what was the nature of your crime, where are you and other prisoners safest? Which hospital ward should you be admitted to where segregation by sex is supposed to happen? I don't care, but what about my old mum - is she allowed to retain her dignity and privacy by not sharing a ward with someone she would not consider the same sex as her (and who isn't the same sex as her)? And when it comes to rights that I have, as woman, to correct historical bias and under-representation in key areas of life that I have experienced, because I am a woman e.g. women-only parliamentary candidate lists, women-only higher education institutions such as Newnham College, targets for female representation on boards, then no, transwomen are absolutely not women and can't elbow me off that list or displace me in that target. My hard-fought for rights aren't there to be just taken by a transwoman. Doesn't mean I don't support your struggle for fair treatment. But you don't get it at the expense of mine.

dontbringmedown · 28/08/2018 17:45

Men pretending to be women as they believe a dress, flowery headband and a sultry pout is what makes a women are hilarious. Screw your gendered thinking. I can dress as most men do (due to gender) yet I am still a woman (due to sex).

Is it really that hard to understand?

Apparently.

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 17:45

It's not hateful to speak the truth that women don't have penises.

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 17:46

and no, please do not delete the thread. We need many more women to feel its ok to say NO you are not a woman, and I am. You cannot have all the rights that were hard fought for women, you are a man.
WOMEN DO NOT HAVE PENISES.

juneau · 28/08/2018 17:46

A 'woman' with a penis is a man.

He can grow his hair long, have electrolysis, breast implants and wear a skirt and lipstick ... and he's still a man.

MIdgebabe · 28/08/2018 17:47

Whilst I fail to achieve this due to strong society pressure, my intention is to treat men and women the same. TO make no assumptions about someone because of their sex.

The only time I believe it is right to treat men and women differently is when it comes to things that are heavily affected by sex, where there is already a difference which is harmful to one or other sex.

sex crimes are way too common so I think it's right to treat men and women differently to protect women from men. privacy at times where you are vulnerable

So note the use of the word sex. Not identity. wearing trousers and studying science does not reduce the probability that a woman will be raped.

I am sad for people who feel the need to deny their fundamental biology because they feel that society will not allow them to be the, selves because of their sex. i think they need help, not encougament to propagate dangerous myths.

I feel scared of men who want to abuse that sympathy to hurt women. Think priests.

BertrandRussell · 28/08/2018 17:49

"You’ve either not seen this, or you’re so lacking in compassion and empathy your soul may as well be dead."
I have seen it. Heartbreaking. How dare you use the death of this child as emotional blackmail material.

speakout · 28/08/2018 17:49

A man without a penis is still a man.

He can wear lipstick and dresses and kitten heels, have silicone breast implants his penis removed and a stoma hole to create a penis shaped hole between his legs but he will still be a man.

Postino · 28/08/2018 17:50

Feminists have fought for bloody ages for women not to have to be feminine. To liberate us. This is so sad
