Women have never been good enough to be the face of a brand. But in a brave and stunning move for equality , Pampers have picked Daley and Black as perfect brand ambassadors

MN have received a number of complaints about this thread, they just haven’t done anything about it.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 16:58

And they haven't done anything about it because nothing on the thread is deletion worthy. Just because a subject makes you uncomfortable doesn't mean it shouldn't.p be discussed.

I do appreciate that's the perspective of today's universities though so I'm sorry if that's what you've been taught to expect.

The subject of Tom Daley being an ambassador does not, in any way, make me uncomfortable.

Homophobia and sexism make me uncomfortable. Both of which are rampant in this thread (admittedly not just in your part).

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 17:03

Very true

I cant remember every single post on here so i may have missed some of the comments

But someone did say that a particular post was homophobic and it was just factual so one mans homophobia might not be anothers

I am very happy to join in with reporting if someone would like to point me in the right direction...as i really dont want to reread the thread

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 17:07

I agree there's been a degree of sexism (not by me) but zero homophobia and generally MNHQ have a zero tolerance approach. So maybe it's you, not us?

ps. I'm 49.

So, if your intent in creating this post was not to bash Pampers and/or Tom Daley for the choice of brand ambassador, what was it for?

Because before all the wittering, the main focus was that they had dared to choose Tom Daley and not a woman...so you’re either disgusted because he’s a man, or because he’s gay (so there’s where your sexism and homophobia allegations first came from). Otherwise, where’s the issue?

Now, when it was pointed out that neither a man, nor a celeb were an unusual endorsement for the brand, attention was turned that their baby was ‘purchased’ from a surrogate.

So what are you getting at? Did you really want to create a thread about how Tom Daley bought a baby, and knew it would get shot down or what??

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 17:16

The thread itself is homophobic. There is no need to comment and complain that 2 gay parents are advertising nappies. Parents of any race, gender and sexuality use nappies. Hmm

NerrSnerr · 23/08/2018 17:18

OP, you're either cross with pampers for having a man or a gay person as br ad ambassador. We have established that believe it or not, men and gay people use nappies so I'm guessing your problem is that it's because he's a man, he's gay or both.

soberexpat · 23/08/2018 17:29

Not sure if it has been mentioned but Chrissy tiegen (John legend's Wife) is a pampers brand ambassador. Do a hashtag search on Instagram and you'll see others.

ForalltheSaints · 23/08/2018 17:31

If it was Jacob Rees-Mogg that would have been worth noting, as he does not change them, but otherwise the choice should be no issue.

OP you are floundering and digging yourself an ever deeper hole here.

He is a male, gay, famous, parent by surrogacy, who may also be the genetic father of his child, who gets paid to endorse nappies because he is beautiful and famous and has a baby.

Get over it, or at least stop trying to persuade the rest of mn that you have some legitimate beef here.

SillySallySingsSongs · 23/08/2018 17:38

Daley is a sportsman with a huge following and his husband is an Oscar winning writer.

They have a commercial pull whether you like it of not.

You are being a deliberate GF and made all sorts of unbstatiated claims.

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 17:39

There is no need to spell it out as you so patronisingly put it. You're homophobic, your thread is homophobic and you don't like gay male couples being parents.

Do you have a problem with other minority groups featuring in advertising or is it just gay men?

JasmineByTheSea · 23/08/2018 17:42

Good for him. I don’t see an issue.

hibbledibble · 23/08/2018 17:43

Do you have a problem that they have chosen men, or because they have chosen gay men?

Substitute 'men' for 'women' and just think about how offensive your post is.

If you had any sense you would ask for it to be removed, especially as your initial assertions have been proven wrong.

NerrSnerr · 23/08/2018 17:43

Yep, Olympic sportsman and Oscar winning writer. Not aspirational at all.

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 17:47

Will it sell more nappies? I'm dubious. So I can only conclude it's woke virtue signalling. And when big companies are going in for woke virtue signalling, I worry

Why is having gay parents advertising nappies "woke virtue signalling?"
Confused
Surely it's just two parents advertising nappies to other parents.

hibbledibble · 23/08/2018 17:47

*1. Advertising is used to get consumers to buy stuff. Usually companies use aspirational people/scenarios to attract consumers.

  1. As most nappy buyers are women, they're not trying to attract us.
3.Second biggest demographic is straight men and (and this probably is homophobic), most straight men are highly resistant to gay men as role models
  1. A lot of people are deeply uncomfortable with commercial surrogacy. Daley is a passionate advocate of commercial surrogacy and wants to change British law.*

I think you would find that a lot of straight women would find Tom Daley very appealing!

As for point 3, I think that is absolute codswallop. Are you trying to imply that most straight men are homophobic? It's 2018, homophobia is no longer acceptable, or the norm.

JasmineByTheSea · 23/08/2018 17:47

Surely challenging stereotypes about parenting is a positive thing, and especially highlighting the roles dads play with babies. On reflection, I think Tom Daley would be a fantastic ambassador.

Fattymcfaterson · 23/08/2018 17:51

3.Second biggest demographic is straight men and (and this probably is homophobic), most straight men are highly resistant to gay men as role models

And you know this how?

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 17:54

And re many people being uncomfortable with surrogacy, the maj of nappy buyers being women- you know this how?

JasmineByTheSea · 23/08/2018 17:55

I strongly disagree with the assertion that most men are highly resistant to gay role models. Most men are not homophobic. How insulting to men.

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 18:01

I know, what a shit thing to say. That is akin to saying to saying 50% of the population is homophobic. It isn't.You are making assumptions based on your own homophobia.
