Women have never been good enough to be the face of a brand. But in a brave and stunning move for equality , Pampers have picked Daley and Black as perfect brand ambassadors

Show me the homophobia TwoTailed. People keep saying that but where is it?

Would you be the same about babies being adopted at birth, Orchid? Mums give up their babies to be adopted then. Should they?

puffyisgood · 23/08/2018 15:00

i don't see any issue. if pampers thinks daley will sell nappies then bully for them/him.

NerrSnerr · 23/08/2018 15:08

There are women be exploited I'm sure but it is unfair to suggest that Daly and his husband have exploited a woman when there is absolutely no evidence.

By all means have the debate about surrogacy and exploitation but you must see that it is hugely unfair to name people you think have exploited a woman when you have no evidence to suggest they have?

SillySallySingsSongs · 23/08/2018 15:24

Obviously I don't know her financial situation. But this is a wealthy couple who went abroad to buy a baby from a woman.

They didn't go abroad as you put it. Lance Black is American. You have no proof that she was exploited and no idea who she was. Keep going and you could end up with a court case.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 15:25

I think commercial surrogacy is exploitation. Why is it unfair to name them? Daley is making a programme for the BBC about surrogacy around the world. He has publicly castigated the U.K. for its stance on commercial surrogacy. If he wants to put himself forward as a spokesman, he can and should expect that position to be challenged.

NerrSnerr · 23/08/2018 15:34

No, that's not true Ribbity. You can froth all you like but I'm not homophobic. I do however think there is something wrong with rich people buying babies from poor women

OP but you said above that you think there's something wrong with rich people buying babies from poor women- as this is a thread about TD this suggests you think they 'bought' a baby from a poor woman. You have no evidence to suggest this do you?

ButchyRestingFace · 23/08/2018 15:39

@Sisgal why?
Have you met him in person?
How can you have such a strong reaction to someone you've never met?

Two words.

DONALD. TRUMP. 🤮

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 15:44

Eh Nerr? They opted for commercial surrogacy. The clue is in the name.

OP posts:
NerrSnerr · 23/08/2018 15:45

Ok OP fair point about the 'bought' but where's your evidence she was poor?

AngelsAckiz · 23/08/2018 15:48

Men changing nappies is a very good step forwards isn't it? To have a woman doing it would just be sexism wouldn't it?

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 15:50

Men changing nappies is a very good step forwards isn't it?

I agree with this, seeing men changing nappies on telly is definitely a great step forward.

FluffingtonPost · 23/08/2018 15:58

Why is this thread even still on here?? Are MNHQ having a day off today?

Some utterly shameful posts here based on pure bigotry and speculation masquerading as facts.

SillySallySingsSongs · 23/08/2018 16:04

Daley is making a programme for the BBC about surrogacy around the world. He has publicly castigated the U.K. for its stance on commercial surrogacy. If he wants to put himself forward as a spokesman, he can and should expect that position to be challenged.

You hadn't seen the programme yet considering it hasn't been aired.

You have no idea about their personal situation and have made some serious allegations about people and their situation of which you have no idea.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 16:14

What serious allegations have I made? Please point them out. Other than saying that Pampers has never used 'brand ambassadors' before which I accept is untrue.

OP posts:
SillySallySingsSongs · 23/08/2018 16:16

What serious allegations have I made?

Well you've claimed they have exploited their surrogate for starters.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 16:23

Yes, because it's commercial surrogacy. The word is the clue. A woman has sold them her baby for profit. I believe (notice that this is my opinion) that selling babies is wrong and that it is exploitation to encourage women to conceive and sell babies for profit.

OP posts:
SillySallySingsSongs · 23/08/2018 16:26

Well I hope you know exactly the situation they were in, why they chose the surrogate they did and the surrogates own personal circumstances because otherwise you are making some serious allegations of which you have no proof.

FluffingtonPost · 23/08/2018 16:33

You’ve essentially created a thread about one thing, then when people have pointed out you’re wrong you’ve found something else to take exception to. If you’re going to start a thread purely to bash somebody, at least own it and don’t act all faux offended that people have taken it the wrong way.

Either Tom Daley or his husband are the biological father of their child, so just quit trying to make out they’ve hopped on a plane and bought a baby from an unsuspecting random woman in a poverty stricken ghetto. You know absolutely nothing about the surrogate, sonto insinuate otherwise and claim she’s been taken advantage of is ridiculous.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/08/2018 16:34

Haven't RTFT but one of my mates told me that lesbians still buy Suburus based on advertising featuring lesbians in the 1990's. priceonomics.com/how-an-ad-campaign-made-lesbians-fall-in-love-with/

Turns out if you want to flog your crap using same-sex-couple virtue signalling, choose women. They are loyal.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 16:40

Nah fluff - I've always taken exception to the fact that they're surrogates. I've just refuted the homophobia claims so people have got excited about something else.

Weird that, despite presumably millions of reports from outraged people, the thread is still standing.

OP posts:
cathf · 23/08/2018 16:41

This thread I'd MN gold.
Page after page of accusations, virtue signalling and feminist outrage just because someone has signed an endorsement deal.
From outrage that women are never chosen (they are actually, but don't let that get in the way of the drama), to actually women are chosen but only because the ARE women so the ads is sexist (eh?).
Men are on the ads but not shown changing nappies, so the ads are sexist. But men changing nappies (aka TD) are outrageous because it's usually women who change nappies.
Then we moved to accusations of homophobia Andrew lTS of virtue signalling about that, the next time I looked we appeared to be getting het up about surrogacy.
As I said, a true MN classic

FluffingtonPost · 23/08/2018 16:46

So do you have a personal relationship with this surrogate to have an understanding of her personal circumstances and how exactly she’s been taking advantage of? Or are you going to admit that you’re full of shit?

Or is it really that we’re, what 4 weeks into the summer holidays and you’ve just picked the goadiest, most hostile topic you could think of to entertain you before you go back to school?

I’m really disappointed in MNHQ that this threads still here tbh.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 16:46

There is so much homophobia on this thread, it’s a disgrace

Report it then

MN is self reporting, they wont see it unless you tell them
