AIBU to get pissed off with all the Autumn and Winter "cosy" people

Now that the evenings are getting darker I feel sad that summer is ending .. and pissed off with the "cosy" people !! I hate winter .. what is "cosy" about bumbling about in the dark and scraping ice off your car, getting fat with stodgy food , seeing all the shit sentimental Christmas TV adverts and being pale , corpse like and with drizzled on hair !!! .. this is light hearted but I just don't get it ! .... I've stayed away from the " We hate summer" threads as instructed as they were not for me ... so now it's my turn !!

Ode to Autumn 🍂

Nerdybeethoven · 19/08/2018 14:43

Looking forward to all my neighbours fucking off out of their gardens and I won't have to see or hear them again until at least March. Yep I'm a miserable cow. I have other reasons for loving Autumn too.

Nerdybeethoven · 19/08/2018 14:46

Summer is set to drag on a bit longer in London unfortunately. We're just driving back after a cool week in Scotland. 24 degrees on the M25 and have had to put the car aircon on.

TheDairyQueen · 19/08/2018 14:54

I know how you feel, OP.

I can't stand the dark nights/mornings. I feel trapped in the house and want to run a fucking mile from having to constantly put the heating on, freezing my cunt off scraping the car windows in the morning, and never seeing the sun because I'm stuck in the office. It's my own private hell.

That said, I don't necessarily want boiling, excessive heat on a daily basis. I like getting up whilst it's light outside, driving to and from work where I can at least see the scenery, and know that if I take some time off a jacket and "sensible shoes" are not a necessity.

Sadly, stuck in this miserable shit-hole of a place is a fact of life, and there's no escape from it!

YABU I love autumn and winter. I love that it gets dark early. I love snuggling up with hot drinks, delicious soup, warm blankets and good tv. I love it when it’s cold and you go for a nice stroll, your skin feels amazing after and then home to get into your warm comfortable pjs with a glass of red lush. Massive fan of Halloween and Christmas 🎃🕸👻 ☃️❄️🎅🏻 🎄

userofthiswebsite · 19/08/2018 15:10

This weather right now (in London) is my absolute favourite type of weather. You can go out in a t-shirt, but not feel hot and sweaty, nor feel chilly enough to need a second layer.
Love it.
For me we go too quickly from one extreme to another, jumping from needing 2/3 layers to being too hot in a vest top. We don't have enough of the 'middle ground' weather.

I think I'd have wanted to strangle Keats if he were alive today.

I don't care for romanticised language about Autumn and Winter.

I don't think that justifies the PA.

dementedma · 19/08/2018 15:28

Hallowe'en and Guy Fawkes are really only of interest if you have young kids. Now ours are grown up, these things barely register other than noticing all the tat in the shops.

It’s when I get my year round decor Wink

ilovesooty · 19/08/2018 15:30

Exactly. Halloween is a pain as well if people knock on the door disturbing you after work.
I don't like fireworks either.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 19/08/2018 15:31

Don't get me wrong, I love a flipflop, but I love hiding my belly with jeans and jumpers, not feeling like I'm failing at life for not wanting to be outside every day and just generally, I love cosiness.

idonthaveatattoo · 19/08/2018 15:33

Quick off the mark today, Mumsnet!

Don’t be so miserable, sooty. Better? Confused

idonthaveatattoo · 19/08/2018 15:33

OMG people knocking on the door!

ilovesooty · 19/08/2018 15:34

Yes. I don't want to deal with a load of people dressed in tat after a full on day at work.

idonthaveatattoo · 19/08/2018 15:35

Just put a sign on the door, or ignore it. Don’t know where you live but mostly it’s just houses with decorations.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 19/08/2018 15:49

Children are informed at school not to knock on doors where there are no decorations. I don’t allow my children to knock people’s doors and we always have a Halloween party anyway so no need for them to. However I love getting Halloween visitors and handing out sweets send them my way, I’ll be the house with all the lights and decorations.

Havabiscuit · 19/08/2018 15:51

I like all the seasons. It’s the change that’s refreshing. I missed it when living abroad.

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/08/2018 15:55

I actually like Halloween. Bonfires, fireworks, dressing up. Cheesiness and childishness.

Much better than Christmas, draining your bank account for a pointless marathon of sitting down mainlining thousands of calories in a boiling hot house full of people you begin to resent. The hassle and claustrophobia of the whole thing is hellish. It comes every year, pile of shite.

Dbrook · 19/08/2018 16:06

I absolutely love autumn - I even got married in October I love it so much. Early winter and the run up to Christmas is wonderful too.

Proper winter though, from January to March, I find tough. I think if I lived somewhere that got a lot of snow or even frost I would enjoy it, but the typical wet grey dirty London winter is hard to get through.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 19/08/2018 17:30

Hate Hallowe'en - still, have been saving up all the out of date sweets and chocolate to give the annoying kids.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/08/2018 18:01

I dislike “cosy”. Cosy to me is claustrophobic.

The issue here is that autumn depends where you live. If we had sunny, crisp days then I would love it, but where I live autumn is usually grey and damp with very low light levels, and it is so depressing. I hate driving to and from work in the dark, and the fact that the traffic increases enormously between October and Christmas.

“Autumn here is not like some New England picture perfect postcard. It’s grey skies mostly”
This ^^
Most people love the idea of autumn, but often the reality is disappointing – just like the average British summer really.

I am a summer lover and love not having to bundle up in several layers before stepping outside. I really don’t cope well with the short days and low light levels, and I hate feeling cold. I hate not being able to line dry my washing.

“Genuine question but if you like the cold weather why do all you go on about is making yourself hotter”

Yes. The irony.

“I also have a theory that people like the time of the year they were born the best”

Not true. I was born in November.

JacquesHammer · 19/08/2018 18:48

Yes. The irony

It’s not in the slightest bit!

Heat you can control is very different from heat you can’t. Hence why I enjoy dressing to a comfortable temperature rather than a too hot one!

JakePeraltaNYPD · 19/08/2018 18:57

Yeah YABU. What's so fun about melting in the heat, feeling uncomfortable and being unable to sleep? Give me cold weather any time!
