What's happened to having a bit of pride in yourself?

I am genuinely asking this question out of curiosity not being inflammatory but I will no doubt be accused of this in typical mnet style! Anyway here goes-

I don't understand why some women are so proud of the fact that the first thing they do when they get home is to take their bra off and put pjs on.

A) I don't have time as when I get in from work there's stuff to do.
B) why would you want to sit there with everything dangling about

I think it is much better for your state of mind to have a bit of pride In Yourself, to wear a bit of makeup, clean clothes, brush your hair etc. On another note if your bra is so uncomfortable you're wearing the wrong bra!

Yeah I'm proud. Another one who formed my identity around something other than appearance. Dangle dangle.

Should have titled this "Pride and PJs". I can see the tv/calendar tie in already.

Anniegetyourgun · 18/08/2018 21:37

First you say in your OP that you don't have time to put pyjamas on because "there's stuff to do", then you say you change into jeans to do that stuff. Why would it take longer to put jeans on than pyjamas? Confused Or is it the bra removal that takes so long? I have to be careful myself as abrupt de-scaffolding can result in bruised knees.

It still doesn't take that much longer to replace day wear with nightwear, though. For me that isn't giving up on what's left of the day; it's preparing to enjoy the best bit of it. When the weather was hot there was also a shower involved, so all the day clothes were coming off anyway. Seems a trifle pointless to put sweaty underwear back on, and wasteful to don a whole clean set just for the evening.

Obviously if your "stuff" involves mucking out stables and/or rabbit hutches you'd change into jeans, but for indoors - why the heck not? I don't think it's fair to say anyone, on this thread at least, is "so proud" of putting on pjs, they just do it because they want to, and that's nothing to be ashamed of behind their own closed doors.

RoseWhiteTips · 18/08/2018 21:37

I take it people who wear nightwear all evening AND wear it to bed, too, change the garments every day?!

Yeah right...

AnoukSpirit · 18/08/2018 21:40

I think it is much better for your state of mind to have a bit of pride In Yourself

Luckily, by your own admission, they do:

some women are so proud

Problem solved.

LyndorCake · 18/08/2018 21:42

I don't wear a bra. I don't even think I own one ATM.

Am I allowed to leave the house, miss?

RoseWhiteTips · 18/08/2018 21:42

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore

I bet my pyjamas are nicer than your clothes.

Hmm
RoseWhiteTips · 18/08/2018 21:44

Jammies?! Do you actually call them that!?

🤣

unclejel · 18/08/2018 21:45

Maybe you just have tiny tits?

singingpinkmonkey · 18/08/2018 21:46

YANBU OP simply because you are allowed your own bloody opinion.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 18/08/2018 21:47

I don’t have any dangly bits. I feel like I’m missing out.

Anniegetyourgun · 18/08/2018 21:52

Jammies?! Do you actually call them that!?

The only poster I noticed in 8 pages using that word was on the same side of the debate as you and the OP, i.e. the not changing into them. Most seem to say pyjamas or PJs. Other nightwear is also available (see mummydragon's jersey dresses). Not that she isn't allowed to say "jammies", it's a colloquialism innit? She's giving an opinion on an internet forum, not writing a formal dissertation.

And you don't get to dictate how often other people do their laundry, either.

ForalltheSaints · 18/08/2018 21:56

In your own home it is your choice and your own business.

I just wish more people had pride in their appearance in public.

Time4Gin · 18/08/2018 21:59

Man! I NEVER take my bra off unless I’m in bed or on holiday. I wear jeans all the time and don’t own pajamas. I wear make up and often don’t take it off at night. I don’t do my bikini line, I haven’t shaved my legs in weeks, I only wash my hair once a week or less frequently and I actually encourage my kids and husband to wear odd socks- because who sees your fookin socks! I am also a feminist and everyone on this thread is right because it’s up to you what you wear, look like and do, in and out of your on house. Think you’re someone OP, who has too much time on your hands and started this thread out of boredom!

CheeseTheDay · 18/08/2018 21:59

I think it is much better for your state of mind to have a bit of pride In Yourself, to wear a bit of makeup

Not sure what makeup has to do with having pride in yourself. Some of us are perfectly happy with how we look without it. I'm one of them. I wear minimal makeup for work, and will make a tiny bit of extra effort for special occasions, or nights out, but otherwise I don't wear it. Clearly I must be a slob though!

InfiniteCurve · 18/08/2018 22:01

I take my boobs off when I get home - but I usually put old sloppy clothes on,not nightwear....
Letting myself go,or not? Grin
(Had a bilateral mastectomy, and taking your boobs off beats taking your bra off for comfort any day SmileGrin)

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/08/2018 22:01

Jammies is what Scots & Irish call pyjamas or PJs (as far as I know)

Skyejuly · 18/08/2018 22:02

Make up could be seen as shame because of hiding behind it? I don't need make up for pride.

reallyanotherone · 18/08/2018 22:06

I just wish more people had pride in their appearance in public

What do you mean by that? I quite happily go out in jeans and a t-shirt, hairy legs and pits, no make up, hair in a pony tail. Doesn’t mean i don’t take pride in my appearance, i just think looking natural and comfortable is way more attractive than the full face/hair/nails thing.

YeahILoveSummer · 18/08/2018 22:07

"proud of the fact that the first thing they do when they get home is to take their bra off and put pjs on.

A) I don't have time as when I get in from work there's stuff to do."

You are assuming when people are putting on their pj's this somehow stops them from doing anything physical! People still can walk and move about and do housework with pj's on!!!!

Touchmybum · 18/08/2018 22:08

My postman and the DHL man wouldn't recognise if I had clothes and makeup on at home! :)

Kids give off that they can see my nipples... I retort that they weren't so fussy when they were hangin' off them!!

Sparklesocks · 18/08/2018 22:13

Gonna blow your mind here:

Some people live differently to you and make different decisions about how they live their lives.

I know! A wild concept. But it’s true!

Autumn777 · 18/08/2018 22:14

I get into pyjamas when I get home. Dread if there is a knock at the door though! 😮

xJessica · 18/08/2018 22:17

I don't get the taking the bra off thing - I hate the feeling of not having one on but I never find mine uncomfortable at all, I just don't think about it! I do however change into a comfy hoodie and often my pj bottoms if we're not expecting anyone round but I hate hate hate being in my pjs in front of anyone outside of my family!
