What's happened to having a bit of pride in yourself?

daffodil10 · 18/08/2018 19:11

I am genuinely asking this question out of curiosity not being inflammatory but I will no doubt be accused of this in typical mnet style! Anyway here goes-

I don't understand why some women are so proud of the fact that the first thing they do when they get home is to take their bra off and put pjs on.

A) I don't have time as when I get in from work there's stuff to do.
B) why would you want to sit there with everything dangling about

I think it is much better for your state of mind to have a bit of pride In Yourself, to wear a bit of makeup, clean clothes, brush your hair etc. On another note if your bra is so uncomfortable you're wearing the wrong bra!

Bras are ALWAYS uncomfortable. Whether it is the right fit or not.

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 19/08/2018 09:29

Bras are not always uncomfortable.

youarenotkiddingme · 19/08/2018 09:35

My bras arent uncomfortable.

I still prefer not to wear it at home!

SaucyJack · 19/08/2018 09:53

“but it's surely not beyond the wit of (wo)man that wearing no bra is more comfortable than even the most well fitting bra, surely?”

It’s a matter of personal taste. Plenty of us find the feeling of an unfettered knocker to be uncomfortable in itself.

I wear this sort of thing when I’m at home.
No horrible underwires or tight cups, but just enough support to stop the nipple chafe and wobbling.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/08/2018 09:53

Why not youarenotkiddingme? If a bra is comfortable, then I'm more comfortable with it on than off.

Salem - my bras are comfortable. Where have I gone wrong?

My38274thNameChange · 19/08/2018 09:54

I don’t even wear a bra to work most days.

The elders must be alerted.

SoyDora · 19/08/2018 09:56

Why do people care so much whether other people, who they have never met, are more comfortable in a bra or without? I have huge boobs and generally feel more comfortable in a bra, but somethings if it’s really hot and sticky I prefer to take it off. No one has ever asked me my bra wearinf preferences in real life and no one has any idea what I find more (or less) comfortable. And I don’t give a shit what everyone else finds comfortable either!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/08/2018 10:25

I am, these days, more uncomfortable without some sort of support than in a bra. But my bras do feel a bit restrictive after several hours in them. I sleep in a "shelf vest" and have done for at least 10 years now, as they hold the boobs up a bit.
When I was young and a small boober, free-boobing was fine. Now I'm in my 50s and have post-breastfeeding huge knockers (mine didn't go down after, oh no), they need at least some support. Shelf vests are my leisure option.

CookPassBabtridge · 19/08/2018 10:57

Fair enough your way suits you, don't criticise others for doing it differently. I think it's amazing how much we don't have to conform to daft rituals in this day and age. Don't you think it's great that people can relax properly in their own homes? Lots of people don't need to go anywhere/do anything/see anyone after work.

abacucat · 19/08/2018 11:14

Didn't realise we were doing MN 1950s style today.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/08/2018 11:53

Don't go pearl clutching now then!

Minniemountain · 19/08/2018 12:07

My breasts don't feel comfortable without a bra but I'm currently wearing a decent non-wired bra and it's a revelation. And I'm still in my nightie Grin

MasonJar · 19/08/2018 12:12

I've heard that before, about possible link between wired bras and cancer. Would need proper research to convince me, but it makes sense that anything digging in or constrictive in that area would impeded lymphatic draininage and perhaps increase risk of cysts.

TheClaws · 19/08/2018 12:17

Why, OP?

Not because I’m a woman. Because I’m a person who has had a long day and is tired and just wants to be comfortable in my own space with my people who don’t care what I look like as they love me. That’s why.

BubblesThaDragoon · 19/08/2018 12:21

Didn’t realise bras = 100% caring about your appearance.

JaneJeffer · 19/08/2018 12:24

OP let us not forget that Pride is a deadly sin and Pride comes before a fall.

Having said that I couldn't wear jimjams around the house but braless is good.

toothtruth · 19/08/2018 12:25

mumsnet is fully mental... this, the not mixing underwear and tea towels in a wash, the showering two times a day being normal thread, wearing pjs to put out your bins in the morning being disgusting, going outside with wet hair being a disgrace... wtf is going on? How do people actually live being this uptight? Id go mad!

SoyDora · 19/08/2018 12:27

toothtruth I think I’d forget all the things I was supposed to be judgy/uptight about... I’d have to write myself a list Grin

Aeroflotgirl · 19/08/2018 12:27

I am a 34 F, and need a bra, I also feel uncomfortable without one. I do kickboxing and combat bootcamp, and coukd noway get away with no bra. But in your home, do what you want, it is nobodies business.

toothtruth · 19/08/2018 12:27

I mean live how you want yourself by all means... but judging other people for having wet hair or not wearing a bra or wearing PJs on their own property.... surely life is just too short to be that outraged by nothing?

bastardkitty · 19/08/2018 12:28

Oh holy fuck....

toothtruth · 19/08/2018 12:31

soydora dont forget also that toilet brushes are completely minging, guests should take used sanpro away with them in their handbags as god forbid they put it any of that in YOUR INSIDE BIN!!! Shock
Never put used nappies in your kitchen bin, or bathroom bin or any INSIDE BIN! in fact take each one double wrapped in plastic bags to the landfill yourself each time whilst wearing protective overalls....

SoyDora · 19/08/2018 12:31

I’ll have to buy a new notebook for all these rules!

toothtruth · 19/08/2018 12:32

and make sure to wear a full face of makeup whilst your doing it even if its 3am
