Scalded for drinking alcohol by a stranger

Went to Wetherspoons (I'm still there) with DP. I'm 28 weeks pregnant at the moment and had half a pint of cider with my meal. The woman who served it to me had no issue with it whatsoever, but the man stood next to me (not sure if he was slightly drunk) felt it appropriate to tell my DP that 'that won't be good for her or the baby' (hello I'm stood right here Hmm). DP told him, 'it's fine' and told me to ignore him and the bloke then continued to discuss under his breath with his partner/friend my choice to have a drink.

AIBU to think he had no right? To think that it's fine that I had half a pint once in a blue moon? To feel pissed off with the constant judgement of my ever move since I've been pregnant?

Ugh. I've just had enough of today! Sorry for moaning...

I would judge you for it, but I’d never voice that opinion. I’d mind my own business.

apriljune12 · 18/08/2018 21:37

If you really are upduffed at 19 you need to stop being a prat. I had by first at 21 and I was far more mature than you sound. Grow up. You don’t know everything, clearly, and you need to listen to other people who have been there, done that and survived.

I am very sceptical though.

DerekTheBrave · 18/08/2018 21:37

I love threads like this. Complete evidence that you can’t argue with Stupid 😆

WhatWouldCoachBombayDo · 18/08/2018 21:38

This thread is hilarious 😂 Savannah my dear I hope to see you on the comedy circuit one day, you really do make a person chuckle.

Oh and OP come move to my area, where the cure for any pale looking pregnant woman is "have half a Guinness, it will do wonders" 😂

Needless to say in my area as long as your not chucking back a row of shots or necking a bottle of wine, half a beer or cider when pregnant never raises a eyebrow.

With DC1 I would have the odd half pint here and there. Probably 3 or 4 my entire pregnancy. No I'll effect as predicted by all. Some of them I'm sure we're lemon tops or a shandy too!

I'm now pregnant with DC2 I'll also probably end up having the odd half once in a blue moon. Believe it or not cutting out tuna is the greatest issue for me, I eat loads of tinned tuna 😂

apriljune12 · 18/08/2018 21:41

Cheers ladies Grin

Passmethecrisps · 18/08/2018 21:42

If it wasn’t so stupid it would be annoying.

It is so blatantly nothing to do with concern for an unborn child but rather a salacious glee at being an apparently better mother than someone else.

If every person who opened their gob about the actions of mothers or pregnant women actually engaged with and supported children in difficulty then the world would be a better place. But they don’t. Because they don’t actually care.

Nutkins24 · 18/08/2018 21:42

I haven't put any form of unnecessary risk on my little girl

Hate to tell you this but lots of studies show that children born to teenage parents are disadvantaged. Extrapolating from a few news headlines based on crappy or misunderstood data (as you have done on this thread) you could say you have taken an unnecessary risk by having a baby at the age of 19.

StarfishSandwich · 18/08/2018 21:47

All I’ve had in this pregnancy is one glass of prosecco on my wedding day but this thread is making me need a drink 😂

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 18/08/2018 21:48

I've been drinking elderflower cider.

skunkatanka · 18/08/2018 21:52

The argument about driving being just as risky to an unborn baby is nonsense and always wheeled out on these threads. Unless the OP is ONLY drinking her cider and taking no other risks (i.e. Not driving etc etc) then she is clearly INCREASING the risk- and that's the point. Why would a decent parent add additional and entirely unnecessary risk to an unborn baby? Why?

bangourvillagebesttimeever · 18/08/2018 21:52

OP as someone who has 4 DC and had an ectopic, miscarriages and a missed miscarriage. My losses had nothing to do with alcohol. Whatever had happened to my little ones had happened at the time the egg met the sperm. After losing my little one when I was 22 weeks pregnant I realized it was nonsense. I have been advised to not eat peanuts, not eat certain cheese, not drink, or to drinks small amounts etc etc. I was friends with a gynecologist who advised his wife to have a glass of wine. My DS2 was born with severe allergies and that pregnancy I was told to eat no nuts, therefore I didn't. His biggest allergy was to nuts. You just need to be sensible when pregnant and having a rare glass of cider or wine really isn't going to be an issue.

twattymctwatterson · 18/08/2018 21:52

The bat shittery on this thread is hilarious. Better lay off the carrots op, they're plant based you know, Just as bad as COCAINE.

WhendoIgetadayoff · 18/08/2018 21:59

My friend and Colleague and I were both pregnant at same time with our second babies and when she went off on maternity she said cmon we are going for drink.
Walked into hipster bar with our big bellies and ordered a big glass red each and we toasted our babes to be and loved having a night off from our toddlers. We wore a defiant bring it on face as we could see the looks.
And to think stout used to be prescribed!

LaurieMarlow · 18/08/2018 22:04

The drivel being spouted on this thread is quite something. Are aibu posters getting thicker or something? Confused

OP, he was totally out of order. Practice telling these people to fuck off.

MingeUterusMingeMingeYoni · 18/08/2018 22:09

There's cocaine in it. I mean raisins.

prettybird · 18/08/2018 22:12

Indeed Nutkins24

SavannahXx has statistically put her unborn child at far greater risk just by getting pregnant than Boilin did with her 1/2 pint of cider. How dare she?! Wink

Not that I would pass judgement on her as we all make mistakes Grin

starbrightlight · 18/08/2018 22:18

I think I need all my five a day at once after this thread - in liquid form and fermented, of course. Grapes, apples (as per OP), oranges (Cointreau), plums (brandy) and a few juniper berries with that healthy tonic and maybe some hops topped of with a nice Guinness for old times sake. Sorry, I meant Sake.

Boilin · 18/08/2018 22:20

Mind blown!

LyndorCake · 18/08/2018 22:29

I bought a glass of wine when pregnant. I spent nearly and hour looking at it before I just had to leave it. I couldn't bring myself to drink it! I was full of "what if". That being said, I drank coffee, ate McDonald's, even ate sushi at one point! I didn't know I was pregnant until I was 12 weeks. Before I found out I can recall a few nights where I got upside down drunk! Heck, when I found out I went outside for a cigarette! It was the next day I quit drinking and cigarettes.
I drank throughout breastfeeding however, so I felt like a hypocrite.

It's each to their own really.

Boilin · 18/08/2018 22:29

@starbrightlight Sorry, I meant Sake. GrinGrinGrin

Can I also add anyone judging a pregnant woman for having one drink is a twat

Vicky1990 · 18/08/2018 22:49

You should not drink alcohol when pregnant, it is toxic to the body and your baby.

Lazypoolday · 18/08/2018 23:08

Half a pint of cider will have no effect on the baby whatsoever. That's a fact. Look up the studies yourself instead of spouting nonsense

Boilin · 18/08/2018 23:17

Bullshit central!
