I often can’t be arsed. Dh has to prompt me. Anyone else?

Blueberry, if you can’t be arsed washing your hair, perhaps cut it shorter? Then it’s far easier to clean, or just use some dry shampoo to give it a bit of a spruce.
Personally I think people that don’t wash daily are skanky. I might not shower everyday, but I always wash my face in the sink and give myself a quick once over with some wet wipes. Teeth brushing twice a day along with flossing is a given.
Also how can you not wash your hands after going to the loo? Ugh, think of all the germs you are exposing other people to, especially if you then don’t wash them before you prepare food. Yuk.

blueberrycoconut · 18/08/2018 14:10

Yeah lying it’s just a lexis phrase, like ‘cook dinner’ even if it’s a salad or whatever or ‘run to the shop’ despite the fact I haven’t ran anywhere for the best part of a decade.

Yuck. If you live in a house with running water, there’s no excuse for being a “soap dodger.” No wonder the tube is unbearable at times.

ALittleAubergine · 18/08/2018 14:12

4 times a week is normal I think.

trulybadlydeeply · 18/08/2018 14:12

At the very least you should be washing your hands every single time you go to the toilet, if you have assisted DC with toileting/personal care, before preparing food, and during if using meat products, before eating. Also after caring for any pets, and gardening. I always wash my hands if I've been out at the shops, on public transport etc, for example supermarket trollies are incredibly dirty.

This is basic hygiene, and your DC if you have them, will learn good or poor habits from you.

ShumpaLumpa · 18/08/2018 14:13

My hair takes 10 mins to wash and condition. I was it 3 x per week. Shower takes much less time.
OP, do you wash your hair every time you shower? Maybe prioritise a quick shower over hair?

DeeplySleeping · 18/08/2018 14:13

I do shower every day and have the odd occasional long soak in the bath when DH takes the baby out.

DH works super long hours in a very physically demanding job and often comes home falling asleep eating his evening meal. So sometimes he does skip a shower. It's a bit gross but it's maybe once a week. He does wash though with a flannel and soap and brushes his teeth so doesn't come to bed smelly lol.

When my baby was a newborn I had horrific c section scars and pains so I struggled to get about anyway. We only had a bath no shower so I only bathed every other day because it was so painful to lift my legs in and out. And I also couldn't get my stitches wet so I used to sit on the side of the bath and run the tap and just wash my self with a sponge and shower gel that way.

I get it's hard with 2 kids but when they go to sleep it takes 10 min in the shower including a hair wash. I would be a bit embarrassed if my DH said to get in the shower and I stank 😂

My pre-pubescent children only shower once a week, although they do wash in between and I insist on hand washing. I was the same as a child. But once you go through puberty, your skin is much more oily.

I admit I used to have to be told to wash by my mother as a teenager, due to greasy hair, but I don't sweat very much and can generally get away with showering every other day unless it especially hot or I've been doing something physically demanding or grubby.

But I do usually shower every day! I wouldn't think someone who didn't was dirty though

DameDoom · 18/08/2018 14:13

Greasy, smelly hair is really pungent and very noticeable - it has it's own unique stench quite aside from add-ons like BO, cheesy feet and waffy minge.
OP, you must be trailing a miasma of ming as you go.
Please say you wash your hands thoroughly before preparing food for your family and friends?

blueberrycoconut · 18/08/2018 14:14

Sigh. I am a mum of two and my own mum has been dead for donkeys years.

BigBumandMumTum · 18/08/2018 14:14

I force my teenager to wash, he has mental health problems and I am his carer tho

How are you feeling?

Ihatemycar · 18/08/2018 14:14

That's grim. At least wash your hands. I wash them all day long. Specially after I've been out. I wash them immediately before I touch anything in my house.
I don't think I could eat or drink at yours if I knew about your poor hygiene Confused

PatriciaHolm · 18/08/2018 14:14

Do you really want your kids to be the ones with the stinky mum? Poor kids.

cheesemongery · 18/08/2018 14:15

I'll occasionally skip the early morning shower if I'm just doing the school run and don't have to be at work - but I'll have showered the previous day and can then go home and shower at leisure.

I'm a right minger today but I'm decorating and have been for 3 days. I showered, washed hair yesterday and already I can smell my own BO! That's fine though, as I'll shower when finished.

If DD stays with Dad for the full weekend and I'm not leaving the house I probably won't bother, but will always was my hands after the loo.

I do suffer with severe depression and anxiety - a life long medicated comition, I just think the worry about being stinky would heighten my anxiety more! I'm single, so if home alone I'm not offending anybody other than myself though Grin

OP... just eugh. Does your partner find you attractive? Or is it just a rut relationship - you stink, have a wash...

sweetsomethings · 18/08/2018 14:15

I don’t shower my body everyday due to skin issues as that’s what the doctor told me to do. I do have a sink wash everyday with a flannel and would never not wash my hands. OP do you wash your hands before snacking and making food .

heymrsb · 18/08/2018 14:15

Reading back your comments back - not having a shower and having small kids does change things! God knows at the end of the day running a bath for yourself AND then washing / drying hair (especially if it's thick) must seem like a mega chore.

And in that case, dry shampoo and deodorant definitely will see you through day 2! Have you considered a wee antibac gel for post toilet? A friend with small kids has one in her bag at all times - TMI sometimes she dives off the loo to chase a toddler without time to wash / dry hands and she just uses this as soon as she gets the chance.

Not the same as my lazy DH at all, I just got totally raging even thinking about it there 😂

cheesemongery · 18/08/2018 14:17

*condition

must be my greasy hands!

Missillusioned · 18/08/2018 14:17

Im sitting reading this and I haven't showered since Thursday morning!

I had to be at work early Friday morning and overslept a bit so skipped it. And today I have been working hard in the garden, so decided to shower after that.

But I'm really looking forward to the shower I'm about to take!

BuntyII · 18/08/2018 14:17

@Raven88 I do that too 😂

Echo2 · 18/08/2018 14:17

If I lived on my own & didn’t have a job I’d probably only wash once a week Grin

ShumpaLumpa · 18/08/2018 14:17

I think I’d have no skin left on my hands tbh.

Sounds like you have sensitive skin. Do you live in a hard water area? That can make your skin itch.

Have you tried E45 or Sanex hand wash? Maybe that will be linder on your skin? Sonit will feel like a treat eerytime you wash your hands?

blueberrycoconut · 18/08/2018 14:18

Not just me then echo Grin

The fact your DH has to prompt you is bad news OP. That to me trips this into MH territory.

However, here is an honest breakdown of my weeks’ washing:

Mon: full shower including defuzz
Tues: wash hair, pits and bits within 3 mins
Weds: Batiste hair, luxury bath that night OR bath with little ones
Thurs: full shower
Friday: Batiste hair
Saturday: sports shower after morning run, bath that night
Sunday: nothing

So that’s three showers and two baths a week.

I always wash my hands after the loo though; I’ve had enough gastro bugs to tell me to do anything else is really irresponsible
