To be mad at MIL!

I was in the hospital around the time of my daughter's final vaccines, and MIL said she would take her. She told me she had them done and that DD was teary but was fine.

DD is 8 months old now and I just received a letter saying it was never done. I'm bloody fuming!!!

I thought only legal guardians /parents could take children for jabs?

Not true. Our nanny has brought our children for the flu vaccine. (I've been there myself for anything involving a needle). I did have to give the ok, but she was able to take them.

RayneDance · 16/08/2018 11:07

Why would the op need to check up on her Mil and check her red book.

Op double check, we have had the done and also had a letter about it. They were done it was missed somewhere, often red books isn't updated or something happens.

RayneDance · 16/08/2018 11:10

Why on the earth would you check the book?
If you need to check books after, then you shouldn't be entrusting that person with your baby and with jabs appointments.

If I trusted someone to do this I wouldn't feel the need to check the book!!

Op... It's a common error... I bet your baby has had the done.

Teaandcrisps · 16/08/2018 11:14

That's so odd - presumably there is a backstory if you believe that MIL could have kept this from you?

TrippingTheVelvet · 16/08/2018 11:17

Hopefully there's an innocent explanation but if she didn't get them and lied you'll be well justified in being furious!

mmmbagels · 16/08/2018 11:22

Still nothing from GP. However MIL is beginning to irritate me. She's insisting she took her for her SECOND jabs (marked in the red book) but I very clearly remember taking her myself because I teared up both times. Also the dates on the red book don't match up with her story. So I'm really confused and annoyed now.

MrsMotherHen · 16/08/2018 11:25

doesnt look good OP

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 16/08/2018 11:27

You can get them again afaik without causing undue harm. But I would be fuming if that was the case - does your MIL have an issue with vaccines in general?

PatheticNurse · 16/08/2018 11:28

The dates in the red book wouldn't match with when you were in hospital. So that shouldn't cause confusion for you or your MIL.

The 3rd set are approx one month after the 2nd - so again there should be no confusion on when she took her

Twickerhun · 16/08/2018 11:29

Our local health authority send me lots of the missed vaccination letters to me despite the fact that my children are up to date with all vaccines. I have about 5 letters for every set of vaccines.

beeefcake · 16/08/2018 11:35

If she outright didn't do it then go mental at her. But make sure you get the story straight first.

BertrandRussell · 16/08/2018 11:39

Should she have had her final jabs by 8 months? I thought it was later than that....

happypoobum · 16/08/2018 11:41

My GPs also messed this up - it's quite common.

Keep your powder dry until you have all the facts OP.

NutElla5x · 16/08/2018 11:42

Hopefully it's some sort of clerical mistake, but if not that is bang and of order and unforgivable in my opinion.

sar302 · 16/08/2018 11:43

Unless there's a massive backstory here, tread carefully. I was contacted by the HV team because it turned out someone hadn't checked the right boxes on the GP system, so it looked like my child was completely unvaccinated. Thankfully I had my red book and could show them all the details.

If she has lied however, about taking your daughter to get vaccinated because of her own agenda, I would be fucking livid!!!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/08/2018 11:44

The second jabs have been marked in the book? Confused

Which jabs do you think your dc has missed OP?

PirateWeasel · 16/08/2018 12:04

If she really did deliberately not take your DD for the jabs, she must have known she would be found out eventually! Either she's very stupid or very innocent! Does she have form for making stories up?

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 16/08/2018 12:37

I hope the final set can be sorted. It does sound like MIL lied as you know you went to the first two (no one forgets when they go!)

I'd just not trust her with that sort of thing again and try and sort the jabs ASAP with the GP.

purpleorchidwhite · 16/08/2018 13:43

I've had this recently and I was the one who took her! They said she hadn't had second round of vaccinations. I know she did, she was in my knee at the time.

Neptunesgiraffe · 16/08/2018 13:55

Mistakes certainly happen. My child was on a slightly different vaccination schedule as we had moved here after living overseas. We got a letter with an appointment for ONE vaccination but there were two nurses when I went to the appointment (nothing unusual there) and I handed them my letter with the details of the vaccination and they both gave him a vaccination. So he ended up being vaccinated for something he's already been vaccinated for. I hadn't realised that they'd done the wrong thing until my child had a reaction to one of the vaccinations and I phoned them back for advice. I was very cross with the GP surgery and they were very apologetic.

Leo86 · 16/08/2018 13:58

Hope the GP can give you an update soon. I'd be very upset to but try not to jump to any conclusions just yet

glueandstick · 16/08/2018 14:01

Keep calm. Don’t question any more until the GP gets back to you. Hopefully it’s a misunderstanding because life is stressful enough without people being dicks- surely a grandmother wouldn’t be that much of a dick?!

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 16/08/2018 14:09

Just try the surgery again. Could be a simple mistake.

LyndorCake · 16/08/2018 14:11

This doesn't add up.
When you went for the second jabs, the Dr or nurse would have pointed out that your child didn't have their first ones. Isn't one of the second ones a top up of something in the first one?

mavismcruet · 16/08/2018 14:18

We kept on getting these letters even though all vaccines were up to date. It was a computer glitch in some central data base.

Don’t get cross until you have the facts. It will be recorded clearly at your gps surgery.
