To be mad at MIL!

I was in the hospital around the time of my daughter's final vaccines, and MIL said she would take her. She told me she had them done and that DD was teary but was fine.

DD is 8 months old now and I just received a letter saying it was never done. I'm bloody fuming!!!

GP is having a nightmare with their system today Hmm typical. They said they'll call me back asap. Still no luck with MIL

Surely there’s nothing wrong in advising to get all the facts. I wiuldnt call it defending.

Bringing Myra Hindley into this conversation is an extreme out of step move.

MrsMozart · 16/08/2018 10:01

I hope all is okay.

MyNameIsNotRachel · 16/08/2018 10:03

id ask your hubby did he get a call from nurse before vacs to confirm it would be ok to do? just my mum had to take my daughter for me and the nurse rang me to confirm it would be ok!

amilosingitor · 16/08/2018 10:03

I would be raging at this, purely at such an outright lie about a parenting decision that is yours and dh's alone!!

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 16/08/2018 10:10

Surely you need the info from the GP before you speak to your MIL?

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 16/08/2018 10:12

That's just unacceptable. It's not like she's lies about a trip or a little cough. It's her vaccines!!

Can the GP still so them

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/08/2018 10:14

Get all your facts from GP first OP. Then at least you have the full story.

AdoreTheBeach · 16/08/2018 10:22

Hoping it’s all just clerical error on part of the local health care authority and gp can update you (and the health care authority).

The red books are useful for years to come to get information quickly. You’ll be surprised years to come when you’re asked for when they had various vaccinations etc.

If you’re MIL did not go and outright lied to you, that’s another matter with many ramifications other than the vaccinations themselves.

Hugs for you and fingers crossed it’s clerical error.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 16/08/2018 10:22

Not sure what your GPs surgery is like, but ours wouldn't give DD her vaccines when her GM took her without calling and checking I or DH had given permission first. We hadn't thought MIL taking DD would be an issue I'd gotten a last minute emergency appointment at the hospital and couldn't rearrange DDs injections as I'd booked the appointment and already called about rearranging, but as MIL doesn't have PR they refused until I OKed it.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 16/08/2018 10:23

Strikeout fails. I'll try again:

Suresurelah · 16/08/2018 10:24

Yes get all the facts from the GP, but it’s odd it wasn’t recorded in the red book (my DD’s has everytime she has been vaccinated and she’s only a few older than your baby).

Another possibility is that maybe she forgot to take the book..?

Suresurelah · 16/08/2018 10:25

Months older than your DD!

Bluelady · 16/08/2018 10:26

I'd lay money on an admin error. The NHS generally is appalling at this kind of thing.

diddl · 16/08/2018 10:29

"Surely you need the info from the GP before you speak to your MIL?"

Absolutely agree with this!

HoppingPavlova · 16/08/2018 10:32

Definitely ascertain it’s not an administration error, not uncommon. If you know for sure it is not then go absolutely ballistic.

apriljune12 · 16/08/2018 10:37

I have taken my grandchild to the doctors for vaccines and in case of illness. I wasn’t questioned but did have that book.

Tbf I was s bit Hmm as I thought this was a bit lax as I don’t have PR but I know my dil/son hadn’t called first and they just vaccinated.

Regards the book maybe mil didn’t take it or didn’t realise it’s customary to get it filled out.

livefornaps · 16/08/2018 10:43

Sounds like you're all geared up to be livid.

Your husband could have taken a day's annual leave

apriljune12 · 16/08/2018 10:44

OhLook

Yep I think that’s as it should be but I deffo know my dil/ds hadn’t phoned permission as they eech thought the other had so neither did.

Seemed lax to me.

ChaseMe · 16/08/2018 10:46

Oh wow i would be furious!

acatcalledjohn · 16/08/2018 10:50

If the MIL had forgotten and been honest about it, it would have been fine. If she is against vaccinations she should have said so that the OP/OP's DH could have made other arrangements.

Instead the OP asked her at the time, the MIL lied, and that has now come out because of a reminder. So if that letter isn't an NHS error (which she'll find out once she hears back from her GP), then the OP has every right to go nuclear at her MIL.

apriljune12 · 16/08/2018 10:53

If I had a letter like this I would firstly assume a mistake!

Unless there’s a back story what sad views some posters have of other close family members. Hmm

BertrandRussell · 16/08/2018 10:57

Check first. THEN fume!

gnushoes · 16/08/2018 10:59

IF your MIL lied about the vaccinations that's a breach of trust. But hard to see why that's the first conclusion you might jump to. Especially since if you had doubts about her taking your DD, you could have got her jabs a week or so later as often happens if children are off-colour.

Happygummibear · 16/08/2018 11:02

I thought only legal guardians /parents could take children for jabs?
