SIL has not vaccinated my nieces

My baby has been booked in for her vaccinations soon. I asked my sister in law, who has primary school aged kids, about the experience and I was flabbergasted when she said she didn't get their jabs. I can't quite believe it!

When I asked why, she said the risks outweighed the pros but she struggled to articulate what the risks were beyond 'potential death'. I said that that was also the downside of not getting the jabs too! She said she was persuaded when her friend said that the jabs couldn't be undone if her kids had a reaction.

AIBU to be shocked and quite disappointed about this? I'm not looking forward to it by any means, but the eradication of many awful diseases and protection against those still prevalent is surely a non negotiable?

When her kids don't get these diseases, she'll be vindicated but that will likely be because the majority have had their jabs rather than proving jabs were unnecessary.

I imagine I'll get over this - my child will be protected - but I'm just Shock at hearing this news.

And Graphista I've repeatedly stated what I believe to be true from my knowledge and experience .... as we all are on this thread.

Suewiang · 16/08/2018 23:01

dont waste your time cath. As the saying is you can’t cure stupid

Graphista · 16/08/2018 23:02

"I’ve already gone through my education and work status" where?

Re diabetes and cholesterol - type 1 is genetic, there's ongoing research into many genetic illnesses but it's more than a bit tricky to eradicate a genetic illness. Cholesterol overproduction can also be genetic it's not always down to diet.

You're nitpicking though and you know it.

A cause of heart disease is high non-hdl cholesterol - the treatment if genetic is medical

A cause of diabetes is a lack of insulin - which can be treated by replacing with meds.

As for non-genetic causes - that's generally poor diet/lifestyle - identified in more nuanced terms by western medical researchers.

I'm on benefits now - being on benefits =/= uneducated nor does a high salary necessarily = educated and certainly not educated in health/medicine.

I wasn't implying anything - I was asking because I think it's a reasonable thing to request that someone speaking as if they're an expert on a subject, back that up by saying eg I'm a pharmacist, or a scientist or whatever.

Anybody can say "the sky is green with pink spots cos that's what I believe" doesn't make it true.

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 23:03

You have lied repeatedly. At first I thought you were just confused and frightened, but from your complete refusal to answer questions shows you to be someone who is disingenuously avoiding answering questions and spreading outright lies. Your hope is to discredit vaccination. Your result... Mixed at best.

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 23:04

Suewiang

dont waste your time cath. As the saying is you can’t cure stupid

Sue, on this thing we can agree. Grin

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 23:04

Ahh @sue a breath of fresh air Flowers

Graphista · 16/08/2018 23:05

I've simply asked where you got that knowledge and how your experience is informed.

Sue - I'm sure cath would say my natural bodily responses will cure it Wink

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 23:05

So odd that Sue only seems to pipe up to insult people (and seems to do nothing else) when Cath runs into trouble.

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 23:11

Hey Sue, did you also know they can't cure polio?

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 23:13

I said earlier on the thread... when asked .... i shall expand slightly ...I initially trained in a medical profession ... I left but this sparked a fervent interest in all things concerning immunity ... I then did something else before doing the career I have now which pays v well but isn’t in a medical field ... I have a first class honours degree

Obviously I don’t think being on benefits makes anyone a moron ... more so that I must be not only a moron but probably on benefits as well and a Brexit voting dipshit .....as per the nonsense spouted against non vaxxers on this thread

Graphista · 16/08/2018 23:14

None of which were anything I said. You made an assumption.

YouCantStopTheSignal · 16/08/2018 23:15

And why would you want to bring the temp down

A high temperature (i.e., 38.3C+) can be uncomfortable or even distressing, particularly for a young child.

An uncontrollable temperature can indicate a serious infection, taking steps to control a temperature will show whether it's uncontrollable.

If you need to seek medical advice they'll ask what steps you've taken to reduce their temperature and will advise Calpol/ibuprofen to do this.

Even febrile convulsions, although v alarming, don’t cause long term damage

It depends on the frequency and length of the seizures, complex febrile seizures carry a 1 in 20 chance of the child developing epilepsy and in the case of simple febrile seizures 1 in 50 children will go on to develop it (the chances of developing epilepsy if you haven't ever had febrile seizures are 1 in 100). Some children need medication when they begin to develop a temperature to try and prevent seizures, e.g., diazepam. Advice is to dial 999 if it's their first seizure or a seizure lasts longer than five minutes or you suspect it's being caused by infection/illness or they're having trouble breathing. If it's a mild seizure you still need to seek medical advice, albeit not as urgently as dialling 999.

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 23:15

Yes I did ,... but with the name calling I’ve had, I think you can understand that

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 23:22

I haven't called you any name except liar, because you have shown yourself to be one.

Sue on the other hand has called everyone else names except anti vaxxers (But claims not to be an anti vaxxer)

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 23:33

Mairy you’ve been completely vile to everyone who disagrees with you

sue has been nothing but neutral (and funny)

keepingfingerscrossed · 16/08/2018 23:44

@cath and @sue - you are both deluded. On so many levels.

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 23:50

@keepingfingerscrossed
I can understand how that comment is directed at me because my viewpoint is so different from yours. However all sue tried to point out was how it’s hard to achieve fully unbiased research due to the directive nature of the funding... something which should be pretty obvious unless you’re living in some kind of bubble

MissConductUS · 16/08/2018 23:56

The body produces cholesterol because it's required for the production of essential hormones. You would die without cholesterol.

Suewiang · 16/08/2018 23:58

Everyone knows you can’t cure polio, and most don’t know they have it to begin with and that’s the most volatile time when you can pass the virus to another, though it’s most commonly passed through bad sanitation.and whether vaccinated or not you can carry it and pass to another.
In fact last year (something you will not like to read since you are always right in your opinion) but last year more were paralysed from the vaccine becoming mutated after some had been vaccinated than people catching the actual polio virus in a normal way

keepingfingerscrossed · 16/08/2018 23:58

@cath -not true @Sue has on many occasions jumped on here just to fire off insults at everyone and complain that no-one listens to here (at the same time as being spectacularly rude).

Suewiang · 17/08/2018 00:04

I’m not bothered if you listen or not. I won’t loose any sleep

Cathmidston · 17/08/2018 00:05

Indeed @Missconduct... so if your body is producing ‘supposed’ excess amounts then it’s doing it for a reason... there is a cause ... the excess production is a symptom of an underlying problem the body is trying to resolve

@sue that was in India wasn’t it? .... I think there were something like 50,000 cases of vaccine induced paralysis?

Cathmidston · 17/08/2018 00:10

@keelingfingerscrossed more like adding a bit of balance to the outright venom spouted at anyone questioning anything about vaccines ....

Thesearepearls · 17/08/2018 00:16

Frankly, this is an issue where I go to the mattresses

This is certainly a language problem but I am curious as to how the mattresses helped? What wisdom did they provide? How is Mattress wisdom preferable to Headboard wisdom. What about the bedside tables? Don't they feel neglected when you go to the mattresses?

I'm dreading the conversation with the Wardrobe tomorrow (you don't talk to me, you only talk to the mattresses)

Suewiang · 17/08/2018 00:19

I have told on many occasions I only fight for everyone to choose and to keep that decision with the individuals and not having them choices taken away I’m not Intrested in if you vax or don’t its everyones choice.
