SIL has not vaccinated my nieces

My baby has been booked in for her vaccinations soon. I asked my sister in law, who has primary school aged kids, about the experience and I was flabbergasted when she said she didn't get their jabs. I can't quite believe it!

When I asked why, she said the risks outweighed the pros but she struggled to articulate what the risks were beyond 'potential death'. I said that that was also the downside of not getting the jabs too! She said she was persuaded when her friend said that the jabs couldn't be undone if her kids had a reaction.

AIBU to be shocked and quite disappointed about this? I'm not looking forward to it by any means, but the eradication of many awful diseases and protection against those still prevalent is surely a non negotiable?

When her kids don't get these diseases, she'll be vindicated but that will likely be because the majority have had their jabs rather than proving jabs were unnecessary.

I imagine I'll get over this - my child will be protected - but I'm just Shock at hearing this news.

@RoadtoRivendell
The Ebola vaccine? That would be a resounding no
I can explain further if you’d like?

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 22:15

I notice the one question you never answer Cath is exactly what you think the government's motive is in vaccinating if they are both unsafe and ineffective? Do you ever wonder that?

Also you say this:

"Vaccination in my view compromises the immune system. I can outline why for instance what I believe is the mechanism for increasing allergies (if anyone is interested),"

You will tell anyone your beliefs, for sure, but you stone wall anyone who seeks evidence from you or to engage with evidence you present.

You were quite nice to me at first before I asked questions about your evidence (even gave me Flowers if I recall), but you ignored me completely when I asked you inconvenient questions. For pages and pages.

I would have no problem engaging in proper discussion with you if I thought you were genuinely open to it, indeed I made many attempts to do so (and then admittedly had some fun instead) but your mind is so far closed against the mainstream I don't anyone will ever be able to pull you back.

Getting so tiresome reading such dangerous misinformation stated as fact.

Symptoms are the body alerting the patient and carers to a problem that needs solved. The majority of the time western medicine alleviates the symptoms by treating the cause.

Vaccinations go a step back from even treating the cause - they prevent the cause, and even when they haven't managed that, they make the body better able to deal with the cause. That's about as "preventive medicine" as you can get. They also operate on a somewhat similar premise to how homeopathy claims to, which many anti-vaxxers use.

Antipyretics aren't advised for no reason. They're advised because a high fever in itself can be dangerous. Though more usually it's a case of certain meds that are painkillers having an antipyretic side effect.

My dd as a baby/young child even for the mildest reasons had a habit of spiking a very high fever. Happened so often at one stage I got used to spotting the signs and so was able to with various methods including meds, head it off before it got too high. Much later learned it can be a feature of her, at that point undiagnosed, genetic disability.

Cath - when you're ill, when your child is ill - do you not use western medicine at all? Even if it's serious?

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:17

Also in the majority of cases for positive tests for polio there were no symptoms of disease ... so again it’s susceptibility and underlying factors.

RoadToRivendell · 16/08/2018 22:18

Cathmidston you can certainly explain your opposition to the Ebola vaccine if you like, but judging by your polio-is-actually-caused-by-DDT explanation, I doubt it will sway me.

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 22:21

Cath who do you think controls the flow of information about polio, and why?

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:21

Graphista your child’s alarming spikes in temperature are caused by the body desperately trying to tpraise your child’s temperature against the medication you have given ...this causes a spike in temp as the medication wears off
Temperatures are for a reason ...they aren’t dangerous unless interfered with as described above. This is becoming more and more accepted in conventional fields. Even febrile convulsions, although v alarming, don’t cause long term damage

MissConductUS · 16/08/2018 22:22

a summer disease effecting mainly children and when DDT and mercury use were still prevalent and incredibly widespread.

I'm confused. Are you saying that poliovirus doesn't exist and people diagnosed with it by antibody testing actually were poisoned by DDT and mercury? You are aware I'm sure that polio has been with us throughout recorded history. Were the ancient Egyptians who had it also victims of DDT and mercury poisoning?

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:23

And please give me an example of conventional medicine treating the cause in any chronic condition

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:24

There were no recorded cases of paralytic polio ... (different to just normal polio which is like a cold) before the use of mercury...
I’m suggesting it’s an aggravating feature

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 22:28

There is artwork from ancient Egypt believed to depict a withered limb due to polio.

See here www.ucl.ac.uk/museums-static/digitalegypt/age/disease.html

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:30

‘Believed’

nannykatherine · 16/08/2018 22:30

to the people who say they never had any vacs and are not dead
the reason fir that is that EVERYONE else did so you are protected by herd immunity ..just be thankful for that !!!!!!!!!

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 22:32

Yes Cath

". I can outline why for instance what I believe is the mechanism for increasing allergies (if anyone is interested),"

How do you expect people to prove those in ancient Egypt suffered paralysis In polio- genuine question?

eddiethehorse · 16/08/2018 22:33

Can you share the link to that Q@A? Thanks

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:37

Well there’s a lot of years between us and the ancient Egyptians and like I said there’s been no recorded cases of paralytic polio before the advent of mercury use...

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 22:40

That's also untrue. Can you present some evidence, if you genuinely "believe" it?

Graphista · 16/08/2018 22:41

How ON EARTH would spikes in temp be caused by meds she hadn't yet taken?! You talk such utter nonsense! The meds brought the temps down 🙄

For all your claims of knowledge - where did you study? What are your qualifications? (I don't just mean medical ones) did you even attend mainstream education?

Afaik last time I looked into it the thinking on long term harm from febrile convulsions was that it depended on the length and frequency of the convulsions.

"And please give me an example of conventional medicine treating the cause in any chronic condition" you mean like heart disease? Which the cause - blood clots - can be treated with blood thinners? Or diabetes where the cause poor insulin regulation/lack of insulin production is treated with medical insulin? Or where western medical research has identified that causes are things like high cholesterol which can be reduced with meds?

Plus measles etc aren't chronic illnesses.

Graphista · 16/08/2018 22:43

‘Believed’

And yet no self awareness of the irony...

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:45

No ... those are all symptoms.. there’s an underlying cause for either the failure to produce insulin or the production of cholesterol for example...
the body is producing cholesterol for a reason and then not adressing the cause and instead suppressing the body’s reaction to it is the reason one is more likely to die on cholesterol lowering medication

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:46

I’ve already gone through my education and work status

MairyHole · 16/08/2018 22:48

"For all your claims of knowledge - where did you study? What are your qualifications? (I don't just mean medical ones) did you even attend mainstream education?"

What's the point in asking - you know she'll just lie (if she answers at all). Last time we heard she had a "medical background" and earns over 100k (as if that, even if true, means anything at all. I know someone who has a medical background and earns over 100k - he's a bloody accountant.).

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:48

And why would you want to bring the temp down... the body produces a temperature for a reason and it facilitates a much better immune response.... it’s not some crazy dysfunctional machine intent on cooking itself

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:50

Mairy I said I didn’t work in a medical field now ... but no I’m not an accountant
But call me a liar if you want ...it’s your level

Cathmidston · 16/08/2018 22:52

You asked me what my work status and educational background was..or someone did ... the implication being I must be some moron on benefits (which should be cut obviously as punishment) to question vaccines ... so I answered
