Sobbing over the death of a TV character

We are binge watching Boardwalk Empire. My favourite character died last night and I was in bits. It was beautifully done and a shocking end to the season.
I haven't felt this way since Thelma and Louise went over the canyon. Sad

Seconding all the HP deaths, especially Cedric and Dobby!

SPOILER

I'm still not over Grace's death in Peaky Blinders. Or John!

I always cry when someone dies in something I watch regularly.

Yes to Mark Greene! That was awful.

The worst for me was when Michelle’s baby was born too early in Coronation Street. I think it was because she had been through it in real life and she played it as though she was actually going through it then. Best acting she’s ever done. I even cried when she did her interview about it on This Morning.

I had recently had a baby at that time, which no doubt played a part.

I cried when Charlene left neighbours, but to be fair I was really, really young! She didn’t die though so I think my family thought I was a bit strange.

I also cried at Peter Rabbit this weekend when he found a video of his dead dad.

I think I need to toughen up!

Jellybeanduck · 10/08/2018 09:38

Vera Duckworth in Corrie Blush at the time I was about five months pregnant and had fairly recently lost my lovely nan. I sat on my mums sofa bawling my eyes.

Lipsticktraces · 10/08/2018 09:38

If it’s the same character I’m thinking of op then yadnbu. I still haven’t got over it myself and it’s over a year since I watched itSad They honestly could have given him his happy ending. He deserved it so much!

titsbumfannythelot · 10/08/2018 09:42

I found Brady's death in homeland incredibly sad, I sobbed for about half an hour afterwards. McDreamy too.

I found the episode of The Royle family where nana died sad too. There was just something so touching when mam was brushing nana's hair.

WhenDoISleep · 10/08/2018 09:44

Leo and Mrs Landingham in the West Wing - absolutely. Plus randomly the funeral scene of the homeless veteran in season 1 where Mrs Landingham's family is discussed. Makes me cry every time.

Mark Greene in ER and Goose in Top Gun.

Morse.

Teresa (Sharpe's first wife) in Sharpe.

chopsychopsy · 10/08/2018 09:45

Peggy Mitchell. I don’t even bloody watch Eastenders, but when Pat appears and tells her she won’t leave her on her own...

Tearing up now thinking of it! 😂🙈

reallyanotherone · 10/08/2018 09:45

The er death that got me was Lucy.

I liked the character and she seemed to be on the verge of a great future- career, relationships, i wanted to see where she went.

Then she came through surgery and everything looked like it was ok. Then she took the mask off and asked Romano if it was a PE, and you could see she knew she would likely die.

Romano was fucking great too. Not such a traumatic death though :)

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 10/08/2018 09:46

Ooh, and Fred in HP, again more out of empathy for George. I'm not a twin, and I can't imagine how that feels.

DerelictWreck · 10/08/2018 09:46

Will Gardner died in The Good Wife

Don't even get me started. I'm still not over it.

And Grey's - George, Lexi, Mark, Derek. What the hell Shona

gunnergirl · 10/08/2018 09:48

def when Mark Greene died in er

MadeleineMaxwell · 10/08/2018 09:48

Will Gardner - broke my heart. And the scene in the last series where he's 'back'.

Dobby in the films, Harry in the books, Snape in both.

Pretty much every time someone dies in a story, I'm a complete sap about it!

MrsJayy · 10/08/2018 09:50

I had to miss out Gregg Pratts death when I watched the repeats I just couldn't do it again his poor brother

eniledam · 10/08/2018 09:50

The worst one was Glee, where Cory Monteith died in real life so they had to kill Finn off as well.

Jesus. I was in bits. All the other characters clearly aren't acting - they're just genuinely crying and grieving. I cried my eyes out watching Lea Michele sing because he was her boyfriend in real life as well as on-screen.

If you feel emotionally stable enough, here it is:

AveABanana · 10/08/2018 09:56

Zeke in Parenthood too. They'd just got it all sorted Sad

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 10/08/2018 09:57

I don't watch soaps but I do remember the scene when Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street gets Stan's belongings back and starts to cry.

AveABanana · 10/08/2018 09:58

And when Carter gets stabbed in ER. I'm watching it again now, S5 and just waiting for him to lie in the pool of blood and see the other body on the floor....

DeepfriedPizza · 10/08/2018 10:00

Finn in home and away died. I phoned my husband at work and was so distraught on the phone, I couldn't get my words out, he rushed home from work thinking someone had actually died. He's never forgiven me

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/08/2018 10:03

I still haven't got over Bambi's mother.

I'm sorry. It's all come flooding back and I'm too upset to type . . .

flamingofridays · 10/08/2018 10:04

everyone ever whos died in Poldark (except 1)

EyeDrops · 10/08/2018 10:04

Barbara in Call The Midwife, with nurse crane reciting Psalm 23 as Tom couldn't, even though she didn't believe it... I absolutely bawled.

birdonawire1 · 10/08/2018 10:05

Do it on a regular basis.

Kool4katz · 10/08/2018 10:07

Nooooo, spoilers. I haven’t read HP book 7 yet! 😱😱😱

iamthere123 · 10/08/2018 10:08

Not even a death but I can’t watch the bit with the Doctor showing Van Gogh his art work in Doctor Who without sobbing!

Little Daniel Radcliffe in My Boy Jack, sobbed so hard I woke my flat mates up!

Last week I was re-reading The Subtle Knife for a bout the 4th time and I sobbed so hard at a characters death (that I knew would happen as I’d read it before!) that I’ve had to stop reading the book!

LittleMouseontheDairy · 10/08/2018 10:10

Mark Greene for me too. I was at home at the time and still remember stumbling out of the playroom where I was watching tv, into the study. My dad looked up and did a double take. He whispered fearfully ‘are you ok?’
I managed to nod and stumble on. Looked in a mirror and I’d been crying so hard I looked like I had two black eyes!
