He is clearly racist. He should be thrown out of the Conservative party.

OP posts:
mirialis · 10/08/2018 13:04

People happy for their government to be propped up by the DUP

I thought it was pretty unpopular even amongst Tories, let alone anyone else?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2018 13:09

Interesting to see the assertion about islamophobia being "rife" in the UK. I'm honestly not trying to derail here, but a recent survey mentioned elsewhere indicated that 8% regard muslims in a negative light - and some posters (quite rightly) suggested that steps should be taken to address that

The same survey showed that 7% viewed Jews in a similar light, and several of those very posters insisted that they are somehow the architects of their own misfortune

What was that about "selective outrage" again?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 10/08/2018 13:13

i don’t see many Tories writing about their disapproval of the DUP in right wing newspapers. Or voicing concerns about anti catholic bonfires. Or mocking Bolar hats and sashes.

Probably because they’re in the funny handshake mob! It’s pathetic how far that shit can still get people in 2018.

I hate anti semitism, and have said so, repeatedly on here. I also can’t abide ignorant Islamophobia.

So where do I fit in your neat little box of stereotypes?

Cuppaorwine · 10/08/2018 13:20

Oh right so you again can’t debate the issue.

I am going nowhere chic. I am more than happy to debate the question of the burka are you?

I think my post has hit home to you both that’s the problem and that’s why both can’t debate the issue.

Cuppaorwine · 10/08/2018 13:23

Puzzled

Don’t worry about de railing the above posters have that covered. Grin

GhostofFrankGrimes · 10/08/2018 13:27

The ops question was whether Johnson should be kicked out the Tory party. My answer is yes but it should have been done about ten years ago.

Burkas should not be banned. If you want to talk about the perceived problems of religious attire and many other controversial religious attitudes in the U.K. then have a grown up discussion about it encompassing all religions.

Repressive regimes overseas should be boycotted. Don’t sell them arms. Dont holiday there. It’s the only way they will learn.

JasmineByTheSea · 10/08/2018 13:27

OP YABU

We need to talk about this issue. Humour is part of free speech. I find the burka absurd. Lots of people do. His joke was highlighting that point. It’s important to remain free to poke fun at religion. After all, would you argue Voltaire shouldn’t have written candide?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2018 13:30

So where do I fit in your neat little box of stereotypes?

That would be hard to say, since I aim not to stereotype people - also since I merely made reference to posters' freely expressed views rather than trying to put them in some kind of "box"

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2018 13:34

By the way, in case that was unclear, I should perhaps have mentioned that I have no interest in attacking individual posters ... only the views expressed

longwayoff · 10/08/2018 13:37

Women should wear whatever they want to wear. No clothing should be off limits to anyone. This is all a diversion from the OP. Boris is solely interested in himself and will do whatever he believes will forward his Boris agenda. Should he be thrown out? He's pretty odious. Will he be thrown out? No.

YeTalkShiteHen · 10/08/2018 14:03

I think my post has hit home to you both that’s the problem and that’s why both can’t debate the issue

Think what you like, but insults and a frankly ridiculous superiority complex don’t make for debate. People in glass houses really shouldn’t throw stones.

Maybe you’d be better suited to a Tory/UKIP forum? Then nobody will disagree with you and get you all het up Grin

YeTalkShiteHen · 10/08/2018 14:03

And yet....

Growingboys · 10/08/2018 14:07

YABU

We are in danger of losing freedom of speech and it's terrifying.

Cuppaorwine · 10/08/2018 14:11

puzzledandpissedoff

Just seen a piece on the tv regards peoples opinions of Boris’s article.

Everyone bar on young woman agreed with Boris that the burka should be banned!!

Considering he said just the opposite he has been very manipulative and very clever.

Cuppaorwine · 10/08/2018 14:13

I think what we are in danger of is a very right wing government headed by Boris as a back lash to that perception Growingboys and a back lash to the type of virtue signalling and woke displayed by the usual suspects on here.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 10/08/2018 14:17

Right so bigotry and hatred is the fault of people who oppose bigotry and hatred. Always somebody else’s fault Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2018 14:17

Maybe try looking at the post again, YeTalk? I think you'll find from the speech marks that I was quoting and replying to your own choice of word, rather than opting for it myself

In the meantime I'll go on looking forward to hearing your views on what so many have actually asked ...

SoapOnARoap · 10/08/2018 14:18

I agree OP.

And Corbyn with his anti-Semitic views, should also be given the same treatment by his party

GhostofFrankGrimes · 10/08/2018 14:19

Suggesting freedom of speech is at risk is sensationalist, fact free bollocks.

Viviennemary · 10/08/2018 14:21

I read that a respected and very senior Imman has agreed with Boris and says that the Burkha isn't even Islamic and has no basis in the teaching of the Koran.

Cuppaorwine · 10/08/2018 14:34

Opposing bigotry and hatred is what all normal people do.

That however should not extend to curtailing free speech unless it incites the above.

No religious or cultural practise is off limits to discuss, criticise or make jokes about.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2018 14:36

he has been very manipulative and very clever

He has, yes, and this is why the "he's just a bumbling idiot" claim from some supporters is perhaps so dangerous. I realise of course that many politicians manipulate and lie for their own selfish ends, but there seem qualities in this one which, to me, make it less than wise to have him in office

I also believe his cleverness may mean sharing with such as Livingstone the ability to know where too many bodies are buried ... which might go some way to explaining why he's still there

GhostofFrankGrimes · 10/08/2018 14:41

Making jokes about or “banter” can quite easily fall into the offensive/discrimination category.

Its often the get out of jail card used by bigots “I’m not a racist/sexist it was just a joke/banter”

That’s why we have clearly defined laws and practices to distinguish between what is and isn’t acceptable forms of behaviour. It is not an attack on freedom of speech, it stops bigots from getting a free pass.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2018 14:48

Viviennemary I think that might have been Taj Hargey? If so, he often pops up at such times with an alternative view, born perhaps of the point that so much of Islamic teaching is a matter of interpretation

It's also reported that his views have resulted in a number of death threats, which sheds a certain light on the attitude of some to dissent. Many of us might feel there could be a debate of the basis of the scriptures without actually feeling the need to kill him, but there you go
