Tiny new baby, aww. In the supermarket.
Walking down an aisle.
Boob out completely trying to get the baby to latch.
Wtf.
Does anyone think this is normal? I bf myself for the record.

thegreatbeyond · 07/08/2018 21:47

I don't care about it. It isn't threatening. It doesn't affect me, so I would simply get on with my day.

NotAnotherHeffalump · 07/08/2018 21:48

Totally agree CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry

I don't know what relevance her partner being there really has...he should have breastfed the baby?Hmm
She should have stopped shopping (which presumably she needed/wanted to do) and ostrasiced herself to the nearest wee-soaked toilet? I wouldn't want my DH doing the grocery shop by himself. All we'd have is low quality processed meat and beer.

AynRandTheObjectivist · 07/08/2018 21:49

Yes, feeding a baby is normal.

LaurieMarlow · 07/08/2018 21:51

I'm always massively impressed by those who can feed while standing up/walking. I never managed it.

No issue whatsoever. Baby needed fed, so she fed them. What do you want her to do?Confused

LockedOutOfMN · 07/08/2018 21:51

A mother feeding a baby? Yes, that's normal, OP. Hmm

weloveheyduggee · 07/08/2018 21:53

I keep seeing men walking round the supermarket with full boob and nipple out, now that makes me feel unwell and there's no need. A mum feeding a baby I don't mind!

LaurieMarlow · 07/08/2018 21:53

Whilst true, I think breeding a newborn in public should be discouraged actually.

I just got that. Blush

Loonoon · 07/08/2018 21:53

Go to Central America. Women breastfeed even quite big children (3/4 years old) openly everywhere, buses, benches, parks, restaurants, shops, literally EVERYWHERE and no one gives it a second glance. I wish that was our normal. I wish I had been brave enough to do it.

Acidrain · 07/08/2018 21:54

Babies hungry, feed the baby, don't think it's unreasonable at all.

thisismygaff · 07/08/2018 21:55

YABU! If the baby needs feeding then it's natural for her to want to feed him. I have fed my baby at a doctor's appointment, I just whipped out my boob, I didn't even think twice. Tbh I can't believe there are women like you who breastfeed and have a problem with what this woman has done.

holyshitdude · 07/08/2018 21:55

Fair play to her, my only concern would be if she tripped over, but I was always scared of walking and carrying a newborn.

thisismygaff · 07/08/2018 21:57

@haribosmarties good on you! Totally normal, breastfeeding standing up, upside down, hanging from a lampshade should all be seen as normal!!

AnnieAnoniMoose · 07/08/2018 21:58

I’d think ‘poor woman could probably do with a comfy chair’ but beyond that ...nope...can’t muster a fuck to give about a woman FEEDING her baby. I’ve seen boobs before, they’re handy things for feeding babies, there’s really nothing to get vexed about.

huggybear · 07/08/2018 21:58

I've never seen a woman breast feeding in public, or noticed at least, so it's not normal.

I think a lot of the general public would be judgy about it.

I think I would be shocked but that's only because we are conditioned go think it's something to be hidden.

MadeForThis · 07/08/2018 21:58

Hungry baby needs fed. Totally natural. Wish we saw it more often. Maybe then people wouldn't be so scandalised.

I doubt she was trying to make a statement. Babies need latched on, it's part of the process.

When my dds needed fed I fed them. Wherever we were. I wasn't looking for attention, I was feeding my baby.

MariaMadita · 07/08/2018 22:00

Is it "normal"? Probably not. You wouldn't be this outraged/surprised/shocked if it was a common occurrence...

But that doesn't automaticay make it wrong... I personally think it's perfectly fine! Good for her, tbh. It's just a breast... A breast she is using to feed her baby... It seems like a pretty good thing to me. :)

chocolateaddicted · 07/08/2018 22:01

@NotAnotherHeffalump sounds like my OH. I swear we'd all starve to death if I didn't do the shopping!

Notasunnybunny · 07/08/2018 22:01

I’m seriously impressed, latching for me involved lots of contortion, to be able to do it whilst stood up/walking and shopping is some next level multi tasking

Dottierichardson · 07/08/2018 22:01

Breastfeeding is natural and comparing it to masturbation is weird. Finding a woman breastfeeding shocking says more about you than it does her. Mothers with small babies have a hard enough time without being judged for feeding their children.

mineofuselessinformation · 07/08/2018 22:03

Breasts are designed to feed babies.
Why the partner being there is relevant, I haven't a clue.
You are part of the reason why breastfeeding rates are so low in this country OP, and why, 20 odd years ago, I felt compelled to feed my child in a toilet as if it was something dirty to be ashamed of.
I think you need to ask yourself why you see it as so abnormal when it was something that nature intended for those that are able to do it.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 07/08/2018 22:05

Me too! When dd was a newborn I could only manage to feed sat on a hardback chair with 3 pillows piled up.

Petalflowers · 07/08/2018 22:05

No problem is breastfeeding a baby in public, although i’m I pressed if she can do this whilst shopping. I would have had to,sit down somewhere..

However, I admit I would have been slight surprised if her whole boob was exposed/naked.

mineofuselessinformation · 07/08/2018 22:05

So I'll really bite now....
I have female children. When they have children (if they want to), I will actively encourage them to do so - judgy people like you need to get over themselves.

nocoolnamesleft · 07/08/2018 22:07

Good for her. Baby hungry = feed baby.

ToeToToe · 07/08/2018 22:08

Nothing wrong with it. Any mum should be able to bf anywhere.

I bf on an ikea display sofa once. If baby wants feeding, baby should be fed...better than the screams.
