Tiny new baby, aww. In the supermarket.
Walking down an aisle.
Boob out completely trying to get the baby to latch.
Wtf.
Does anyone think this is normal? I bf myself for the record.

Why is using a breast to feed a baby more horrifying than using a hand to feed a baby a bottle? It’s just skin.

Oysterbabe · 07/08/2018 21:19

Noone walks around a supermarket breeding a newborn if they have the option of being somewhere more comfortable.

Whilst true, I think breeding a newborn in public should be discouraged actually.

Didn't you know breasts are satanic and we have to protect our husbands and children from seeing a boob in its natural environment? It's fine when they're on TV or billboards but if you look at one directly in the flesh it'll turn you to stone.

BexleyRae · 07/08/2018 21:21

I saw a woman breastfeeding a baby at the swimming pool the other day, she was walking from the changing room and sat on the pool edge all while baby was latched on. I wanted to high five her for the epic multi tasking, I struggle to walk without falling at the swimming pool. If I saw a woman at the supermarket I might offer to help with her trolley, but never judge!

Disquieted1 · 07/08/2018 21:22

I've been trying to think of a scenario where I think it would be inappropriate and have struggled. A funeral, maybe? Though even then I can't think of a logical reason.
A supermarket aisle? No issue there.

You joke

But i swear to god thats what my kids think!!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 07/08/2018 21:23

We were in Prague zoo a few Summers ago, it was about 30 degrees. There was a woman there desperately trying to soothe a baby (about 1) by feeding him. She was totally topless and the baby naked. No one batted an eye. (I did think she was brave not having a nappy on him though)

StealthPolarBear · 07/08/2018 21:23

It's not normal. Not at all. More's the pity.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 07/08/2018 21:25

YABU and at least one poster on this thread has a seriously fucked up view of breastfeeding and we all know who it is

daffodillament · 07/08/2018 21:26

I think why the hell not just sit down somewhere comfy and do it ! There will always be gawping types quick to complain which is why I always chose to BF discreetly (on a train with the discreet muslin at hand Grin ) as the looks did make me quite anxious ! Certainly wouldn't be wandering the fruit and veg isles with my nellies hanging out though !

NotAnotherHeffalump · 07/08/2018 21:29

A boob used for feeding a baby? The horror! Mine had a bit of a knack for waiting until we were out in public until they needed a feed, one very flustered mum and grumpy baby would ensue until I could get them latched on. I don't care where she was, if a tiny bit of her boob was out, half her boob was out or all of her boob was out tbh.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry I don't know why you're bringing the church into this. I go to a church with loads of breastfeeding mums. During the services and before and after when chatting, uncovered, covered, whatever. A fellow church member actually told me not to stress about using a cover when she could see I was struggling/baby didn't like it. The church isn't anti-breastfeeding.

Rebecca36 · 07/08/2018 21:32

Pity she couldn't find somewhere to sit down comfortably, I've never seen someone walking along a supermarket aisle breastfeeding.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 07/08/2018 21:34

It’s ok. Sarcasm clearly translates badly on here sometimes. I’ll fix it:
Did you inform the village elders?

Birdsgottafly · 07/08/2018 21:35

ManorGreyhound, did you attend a masturbation group in your Local Children's Center, or have a Masturbation Adviser visit you, all paid for by the NHS? Nowhere near the same, is it?

""Whilst true, I think breeding a newborn in public should be discouraged actually.""

Why? It would be an indirect way of forcing New Mum's to stay indoors.

toolonglurking · 07/08/2018 21:35

You'd have loved me OP, I used to walk the dog and feed DS. In fact, I fed him at the Vet's office, in the supermarket, queueing at the bank....come to think of it, I tended to feed him when he was hungry - madness!

Excited0803 · 07/08/2018 21:36

Near the end of a shop with a trolley full of fridge and freezer food... you might have to sometimes if the baby wakes up desperate. If a comfy sofa was available and she didn't need to do any chores then I'm sure she'd have been sitting in it. Have a heart and offer to help her with the trolley next time.

blinkineckmum · 07/08/2018 21:37

Completely normal. Hungry baby gets fed. Normal. End of.

Excited0803 · 07/08/2018 21:38

@birdsgottafly - she was joking about the PP saying "breeding" instead of "feeding".

NotAnotherHeffalump · 07/08/2018 21:38

Sorry CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry I may have overreacted trying to get my point across. Blush

FrazzledRockRed · 07/08/2018 21:40

I would feed when baby inside a sling. I just find it strange to have your whole boob and nipple out while walking in public.

The masturbation comparison is ridiculous.

OP posts:
FrazzledRockRed · 07/08/2018 21:40

Not to drip but she was with her partner.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 07/08/2018 21:41

Heffa, no probs. You are right, church is fine. we need to focus on the fuckwit who compared feeding with wanking.

Bambamber · 07/08/2018 21:41

I sometimes feed my toddler walking round the shops. Once they latch on you generally can't see much anyway, except when they unlatch to turn and smile and random strangers Grin

chocolateaddicted · 07/08/2018 21:43

I freaked a few people out yesterday getting my boob out in the middle of Asda. My LB had a serious bang to the head and it was the only thing I could do to calm him. I'm not sure what they were more shocked by:

A) the accident
B) the way he instantly calmed down
C) my quick thinking or
D) the fact he's three and a half 😆

I think feeding your child when needs mist is the most normal thing to do. For the record my son is fine but now terrified of trolleys. The a&e dr said small boys have impressively strong heads when it comes to bumps (I was also that panic parent that goes to hospital with a bumped head)

haribosmarties · 07/08/2018 21:44

I had to get my whole boob out once in a really long queue at the checkout in M&S. My baby was only 1month. I suppose I couldve left the queue but id been there ages and ages... I really didnt want to have to queue again I needed to get home. No one seemed to bat an eyelid but I did feel embarrassed. I think it is less discreet when you are stood up.. id worn that outfit out before and been able to breastfeed quite discreetly in it as I have small breats... but when stood up you could totally see my whole breast..
I dont buy 'breastfeeding clothing' I think its a massive waste of money and I hate all the layers and the faff. As I said I have small boobs so i usually just wear any normal clothing I had that was low cut or stretchy enough to get my boob out of easily...
