To think she is just a bit of a bitch?

I only work from 11-3 Monday to Thursday but full day on a Friday.
Everyday I take my 2 dd's to school then go straight to the gym, home for a shower then off to work which means I usually do the school run in gym clothes so leggings and a sports top and light jacket. On a Friday I have to be in for 9 so am dressed in a suit or smart dress and full makeup. Anyway there is one mum in the playground who always gives me funny looks but I've never known why until today. I have the whole 6 weeks off for the holidays but this week my dd's are attending summer club where this woman's ds is also going and today she made it clear what her problem is. She was standing next to me then just turned and asked why I never bother to get dressed before leaving the house I was shocked and explained that I go to the gym every morning and because our house is quite far out I just go straight after drop off, she jut replied with 'ok' but I could tell she wasn't happy with my answer. Does she expect me to get dressed, drop the kids off, go home and change for the gym, go home again to change and then go to work? For what its worth she only drops off mon-weds and never picks up her ds (he has a childminder) so I guess she has never seen me in smart clothes, hair brushed and makeup on but even so she has made me feel like shit and I very self conscious of what I'm going to be wearing everyday. AIBU?

YANBU ignore her. What's it to her what you wear.

PerpendicularVincent · 03/08/2018 23:00

Meh. Who cares what she thinks.

FiestaThenSiesta · 03/08/2018 23:00

Why didn’t you ask her back “I don’t sleep in my workout clothes, so what do you mean I haven’t gotten dressed today?”

Stefoscope · 03/08/2018 23:00

YANBU, it's none of her business and it's not like you're showing up naked!

cees · 03/08/2018 23:02

The only unreasonable thing you did there was give her an explanation rather then a 'how on earth is that any of your business' line. Hard stare.

aperolspritzplease · 03/08/2018 23:03

It's got fuck all to do with her. I would give her withering looks every time I see her, you may be a better person than me and just ignore.

Abouttoblow · 03/08/2018 23:03

Tell her to fuck right off!

Pancakeflipper · 03/08/2018 23:04

Don't care what she thinks. Sounds like she would judge you if you turned up in full regal robes and a crown. It's none of her business and her interest shows she had nothing better to do. Next time in your gym kit do some yoga moves whilst waiting in the playground and a few star jumps.

Neverender · 03/08/2018 23:05

She's a bit of a knob and probably quite unhappy.

ProudThrilledHappy · 03/08/2018 23:05

I wear the same uniform clothes every day. Once at a party another mum joked that she didn’t recognise me without my usual (clothing type) on.
I said “yes, I really get bored of that uniform”
She replied “I didn’t realise it was a uniform, I thought you just really liked (clothing type)”
ConfusedConfused
She thought I wore the exact same thing every day because I liked it

MissLadyM · 03/08/2018 23:06

Cheeky cow! Ignore her with the occasional pitying glance

ProudThrilledHappy · 03/08/2018 23:07

Sorry I meant to add, some people just have too much time and headspace to think about what others do.
Gym wear is comfortable anyway. If I could ditch my annoying uniform I’d be dressed like you —with no intention of actually going to a gym—

slovenlys · 03/08/2018 23:07

What a twat she is. Does she not know leisure wear is a LEWK nowadays!

FASH84 · 03/08/2018 23:08

Ask her why she spends time getting dolled up for the school gate and not more time going to the gym to improve her health and fitness.

Louiselouie0890 · 03/08/2018 23:11

I can't believe you actually explained yourself to her.

Mammalamb · 03/08/2018 23:11

Something not quite right with her. How can anyone be so bothered about what someone else is wearing? Strange woman

FlirtyRomanticToast · 03/08/2018 23:16

If she cares about it at all then she's a bit sad really. What the hell does it matter if you pull on a pair of leggings or trackie bottoms in the morning and wear that for the day? Maybe she thinks you're in your pjs? The 'not bother to get dressed' suggests that. Or maybe she fancies herself as a member of the Fashion Police and sensible twinset and tweed skirt is required 'school run' attire. Grin

FWIW I drop DS off at playschool at 9am, in gym gear, head to gym, pick him up at 12 after having showered and changed clothes. No one seems to have a problem with this AFAIK!

Poptart4 · 03/08/2018 23:16

Ask why shes so concerned with your life? Does she have nothing else to be worried about?

Honestly op half the parents at my dd's school do the drop off in casual/sports wear. I don't for one second think she believes your unusual in the way you dress. It sounds like she just doesn't like you and is looking for any reason to pick at you.

ErictheGuineaPig · 03/08/2018 23:20

How utterly bizarre. You ARE dressed. What on earth is she going on about.... Totally normal for people to drop off kids in sports wear and head out to the gym or for a run surely Confused

Needsmorebeans · 03/08/2018 23:21

she's wrong and also quite strange. if she raises it again, ask her how your outfit affects her.

Ihatemycar · 03/08/2018 23:26

Sounds like you have a great routine going on. I admire people that are disciplined.
I'm sorry her comment bug you but is she important at all in your life?
I can't believe she had the audacity to tell you.

Iwantaunicorn · 03/08/2018 23:31

When the weather is cooler, pop a onesie on over your gym gear to really piss her off. Sorry she’s upset you, she is a judgemental bitch.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 03/08/2018 23:35

Wear Cookie Monster PJs next time to really piss the nosey twit off.

Rainbunny · 03/08/2018 23:37

WTF??? Are gym clothes unacceptable outside of a gym in the UK now? I'm afraid she'd hate Southern California where I live then, gym clothing is ubiquitous and yoga pants are pretty much standard female uniform around here. Frankly I think some decent compression gym wear looks a whole lot better than someone uncomfortably squished into a pair of skinny jeans etc.

Rainbunny · 03/08/2018 23:39

And I'm curious now Grin What does she wear? Is she out of shape and possibly just jealous that your schedule allows you to go to the gym every morning?
