Amazon Prime next day delivery is false advertising.

So Amazon Prime, that I pay a reasonable amount of membership for each month, is no longer next day delivery?

I have noticed over the last month that their Prime next day delivery is actually taking two days.
So if I order today I won’t get my items until Monday now.

I don’t mind the waiting two days, that’s still a good delivery time BUT what I do mind is I’m paying the membership due to wanting next day delivery.

I am a bit pissed off that basically it’s false advertising on their part. They push Prime membership being next day delivery on Prime items which TBH is the main draw of Paying the membership!

It’s also the bloody sneaky way they are stopping the next day. After doing a quick google it seems they have slowly been offering next day to less and less customers rather than put out a statement explaining they are no longer offering the next day but are offering x,y,z.

So AIBU and it’s not a big deal, just suck it up and think yourself lucky you get two days delivery time,
Or be a bit miffed they charge £10 per month with one of the biggest makerting points being next day delivery and email them showing my distaste Grin

I've always loved this service and am a regular user but twice in the past 10 days we've had an issue - 1 item advertised as next day never turned up at all (but won't let me cancel it!) and 2 items which were advertised as same day delivery are now showing 2 days (after paying of course!)

AdequateFood · 03/08/2018 17:48

I've also noticed this. It's very annoying.

If you are in a bind and absolutely can't get to a shop, I can highly recommend Argos' same day delivery. Used it twice recently and it's been a bloody bargain at £3.95. I easily would have spent that in petrol and stuff I didn't need.

Loonoon · 03/08/2018 17:51

I have cancelled my renewal too. It used to be great but now it’s often 2/3 days - and that’s within the M25 so hardly remote.

bumblingbovine49 · 03/08/2018 17:52

I pay for it because I like some of the the box sets but more and more they give you series 1 of a new a set included in prime, then charge extra for the next series eg the Americans which I really liked.

I refuse to pay extra so wait ages (sometimes a year or more) until the next series is free but it is annoying nonetheless I am considering dropping it.

Plughole3 · 03/08/2018 17:55

As mentioned by a previous poster I’ve started to use Argos a lot more. Sometimes you just want the goods in your hand that day!

GreatWesternValkyrie · 03/08/2018 17:57

Wanted trouble next day delivery

Grin A beautifully appropriate typo for this thread Applesin!

SilverySurfer · 03/08/2018 18:10

I don't care if delivery takes two days, in fact I was given a delivery date recently and it arrived two days early.

If for nothing else, three series of Lucifer and 13 series of Grey's Anatomy has made Prime worth every penny, not to mention all the other films and shows I've enjoyed. So i won't be cancelling.

AnalUnicorn · 03/08/2018 18:24

I find they go through bad patches occasionally. When they deliver late I complain and they always give me some compo, usually by extending my Prime membership by a month.

Hamiltoes · 03/08/2018 18:34

You know that eBay is a billion different sellers all of whom use different postal services right? DH sold something on eBay last week and sent it via DPD.

Yes I do, I'm one of them! Also a member of the Powerseller forum and can tell you that the vast majority of business sellers (inc. myself!) use Royal Mail because they are the cheapest and most reliable. Couriers are usually used by those selling the items 2kg+. I just preferred personally using Amazon couriers for my own shopping as they'll leave things in the shed for you, Royal Mail take to the delivery office.

Jux · 03/08/2018 18:41

I ordered some stuff on Monday and it arrived on Tuesday. In the morning too, about 9:30.

Agree it's available on fewer items now, but it still happens on a lot of what I get (mainly books).

Donthugmeimscared · 03/08/2018 18:47

Just saw this as I was thinking of cancelling mine too. My son ordered something with his birthday money and it was due today. We have been in all day it came up that we were the next delivery address. He was watching the map thing that said where they where. It jumped to being 10 miles away and we got a sorry we missed you email. They never even came here and now I have a very grumpy son to deal with.

sunshinewithabitofdrizzle · 03/08/2018 19:03

@Donthugmeimscared get onto the customer services chat and complain. Whenever I've not had a delivery I've complained and been given either credit or an extra month on my Prime account.

ForalltheSaints · 03/08/2018 19:10

Complain to the Advertising Standards Authority. They do act sometimes, such as with the Gatwick Express 30 minute claim.

Vichette · 03/08/2018 19:19

It seems to depend on where you are. I live in Bristol & work in Bath items that I can get delivered next day to my home are the following day to Bath

ShimmeringIce · 03/08/2018 19:36

Yeah it’s crap. Ordered something on Tuesday and “next day delivery” was Friday. Do they think I won’t notice??
Not London, but by no means remote. Next manage even if I order at ten to midnight!

Wilberforce2 · 03/08/2018 20:14

Was moaning about this the other day, they are getting slower and slower with their delivery times. I had something coming last Monday 6-9pm, at 9.50pm I had an email to say it had been delayed and would be there the next day. On the Tuesday nothing happened so I logged on and it said that it was delayed and if I hadn't received it by Thursday then to let them know and they would re-order it, no explanation or anything! Had a massive rant on live chat where I was told what I ordered was out of stock 🤷‍♀️ Tried to order something today at 11am and it can't be delivered until Tuesday!

Hating Amazon at the moment!

Bobbybear10 · 03/08/2018 20:19

Well after doing more research into Amazon (went down a bit of a rabbit hole and not just about their Prime lies!) I have cancelled my Prime and have decided I am done with Amazon.

There is so much bad press about them and how they treat their drivers/staff, their tax evasion and how difficult they can be to deal with for sellers that use their site to sell through. Even if you take into account some of the bad press could be competitors, sacked staff etc etc I don’t believe it’s all fake news.

As I said earlier I don’t mind it being two day delivery, especially if it means more achievable targets for their drivers. What I do mind is being told I am paying for something and not getting it.

I want to be able to make my own informed choice about how I spend my money not have Amazon decide ‘what I don’t know won’t hurt me, just keep plugging the lie, she’ll never know’

It’s deceitful and insulting that they think we are morons who won’t figure out that Prime next day doesn’t actually mean next day for the majority of the country!

I will send them an email with the link to this thread, I don’t imagine it will do much good but it will make me feel better.

I do also think it may get be worth a quick email to the advertising standards agency.

I do feel sorry for the delivery drivers as they are under so much pressure but some of mine literally race from the van parked randomly across the road, ring my doorbell at the same time as the neighbours (can reach over) & give you 10 seconds to get to the door!

MadisonAvenue · 03/08/2018 22:13

There something I'm looking at right now, it's advertised as being a Prime Delivery (and in stock) but then says "want in delivered by Thursday 9th Aug?

That's almost a week away.

PastaRedWine · 03/08/2018 22:22

< Sigh >

I remember when amazon was in its early days, the very first order I made. It was a book (shock) and I ordered it at 5pm one afternoon using a huge unwieldy PC at my friend's workplace while I was hanging around for them.

It arrived the next day!!! Fantastic. I remember how amazed I was.

No prime anything available. It was over 20 years ago.

Oh how things have moved on and progressed since then 🙄

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/08/2018 22:37

I went with prime because I was either spending £4 delivery most times if the order was below £20 or I was ordering little things I didn't need to get the free delivery.
I order more than 20 times a year so it works out cheaper, plus I can share it with dh and he pays half.

I followed example on here and notified them via live chat that a recent item was ordered on the 18th, saud it would come on the 19th but then came later than that. They added 30 days onto my membership. That will do for now.

Louiselouie0890 · 03/08/2018 23:00

Aren't some items next day upto a certain time. So order at 2pm you get it next day order at 6pm its two days.?

Donthugmeimscared · 04/08/2018 11:07

Well i just spoke to them and they said it will 100% be there today. Then said they would give me £5 off but didn't mention it was £5 off when you spend £50 which i never do as that's more than my weekly food budget. So that was a waste of time.

French2019 · 04/08/2018 11:17

I first noticed this last Christmas. I can still get next day delivery on lots of items, and a very small number of items can be delivered the same day, but there are also lots of items listed as prime which take longer.

I find it really frustrating, because the big advantage of having prime previously was that you could filter on it to only look at items which would arrive quickly. Now, even if you filter on prime, there are no guarantees and you waste loads of time looking at things that won't be delivered in time.

I am thinking of cancelling my prime membership because of this. We don't use the TV that much, and it was always the fast delivery that I was paying for.
