Amazon Prime next day delivery is false advertising.

So Amazon Prime, that I pay a reasonable amount of membership for each month, is no longer next day delivery?

I have noticed over the last month that their Prime next day delivery is actually taking two days.
So if I order today I won’t get my items until Monday now.

I don’t mind the waiting two days, that’s still a good delivery time BUT what I do mind is I’m paying the membership due to wanting next day delivery.

I am a bit pissed off that basically it’s false advertising on their part. They push Prime membership being next day delivery on Prime items which TBH is the main draw of Paying the membership!

It’s also the bloody sneaky way they are stopping the next day. After doing a quick google it seems they have slowly been offering next day to less and less customers rather than put out a statement explaining they are no longer offering the next day but are offering x,y,z.

So AIBU and it’s not a big deal, just suck it up and think yourself lucky you get two days delivery time,
Or be a bit miffed they charge £10 per month with one of the biggest makerting points being next day delivery and email them showing my distaste Grin

yoga the prices in baskets go both up and down. At the top of the page it should tell you the price changes. A lot of people use this to track prices so you buy when the prices drop.

MustBeThin · 03/08/2018 16:56

I order from Amazon probably twice a week and I've never once had to wait an extra day for delivery 🤔 the only time I don't get it next day is if I order late at night and I've missed the cut off point so I gets delivered the day after it normally would but it tells me that before I place an order.

Chewbecca · 03/08/2018 16:57

I cancelled for this reason too.

I bought it for free next day delivery and ended up paying it for TV & stuff I didn't want. I find it really odd that they have totally changed the product customers are paying for & keep the change rather quiet and subtle. I'm trying to think of a good analogy... but failing. Maybe I bought a cinema season ticket and now I can't go to the cinema but I can use a launderette instead.

slithytove · 03/08/2018 16:57

Every time I order a prime item that doesn’t arrive next day, I go on live chat and complain. Each time they add on a free month of prime, so eventually I’ll get 18m for the price of 12. Worth it for the tv and accumulating the £1 kindle credits.

GreatWesternValkyrie · 03/08/2018 16:58

I find that they are advertised as next day then as soon as you log in to place the order it changes - so every time I place an order on a Friday to get a delivery on Saturday it then changes to a Monday nine times out of ten during the check out process. If you complain, they seem to immediately extend your membership by an extra couple of months for free, so that’s clearly their way of trying to avoid the actual issue - but that’s hardly the point.

I’m another thinking that I may not renew as it’s no longer the service that I paid for and I’m sure I can live without next day delivery, it’s just something handy that I’ve gotten used to!

I first noticed this a few months ago but I searched on MN and found others saying the same last year too.

Jaxhog · 03/08/2018 16:58

Not worth it. Their free delivery is fast enough . Sometimes that's next day.

Unicornandbows · 03/08/2018 16:59

Yup I cancelled my renewal cause prime wasn't prime anymore.. Some items that were supposed to be delivered on the same day have emails attached an hour or so later that it will be delivered the next day instead of same day.. Annoyed as you never know when your items are delivered

0h · 03/08/2018 17:00

I've NEVER had next day delivery. I live in the wild of Edinburgh so clearly too difficult for them. Hmm Its always, always 2 days and has been (for me) for the past 5 years.

ProfYaffle · 03/08/2018 17:01

"it looks like people were having this issue from as far back as middle 2017." That's about when I cancelled mine.

daisychain01 · 03/08/2018 17:01

I have to question why people need everything delivered next day.

I feel for the delivery drivers, being beaten to a pulp having to meet targets to deliver all this stuff next day. Amazon pay £15M tax on £19.5 BN. You don't get to rake in all that profit by being a good employer, or a company that pays their taxes fair and square

NameChangeUni · 03/08/2018 17:02

Actually I’ve just had another look on amazon and the Wednesday date at a Midlands address was just on that specific item. Generally for my London addresses, items will arrive tomorrow or Sunday respectively and Monday for the Midlands address. So I suppose it is location and item specific.

Way to miss the point of the thread. Grin

TatianaLarina · 03/08/2018 17:02

Two days is still very good. It’s bascially the same as first class dispatched the same day. So £75 a year for that is still a brilliant deal with the amount that I order.

And some things do still arrive next day.

I think logistically it’s more realistic.

ShutTheFridgeUp · 03/08/2018 17:03

I complain constantly to amazon! My most recent complaint being that the delivery driver keeps leaving things on my doorstep! I live in a quiet area, but the stuff I had ordered wasn't cheap. I'm currently awaiting their reply.
Every time I've complained in the past I have always been compensated. I am also getting a bit cross with the delayed delivery though! I am terrible for forgetting birthdays and amazon used to be really good for last minute purchases, but not anymore!

JacquesHammer · 03/08/2018 17:03

So I suppose it is location and item specific

That doesn’t explain why there’s suddenly been such a drop in service

DumbledoresApprentice · 03/08/2018 17:04

I always get next day and sometimes same-day delivery. It’s pretty rare for a prime item to not be available next day here. It must depend on where you are.

JacquesHammer · 03/08/2018 17:04

Two days is still very good

Not when you’re paying for next day delivery though!

daisychain01 · 03/08/2018 17:05

I don't care Jacque people miss the bigger picture which is that the demand for this service just increases Amazons profits exponentially. That IS the point, but people may not like the ugly truth. They just want their stuff.

Anyway, I'll get off my soap box - it isn't an Amazon Prime box either, in case you're wondering Grin

Just adding pics to show what happens.

I think it must depend where you live and where the warehouse is. My stuff usually turn up the next day. Sometimes it turns up on the same day/evening. Sunday seems to be a busy Amazon delivery day in our area too. I am about 15 miles from Bristol.

My brother, in Sussex, was always complaining about slower deliveries (tended to buy DD birthday/Xmas presents via Amazon so was often surprised when I let him know when they had turned up).

I get more annoyed when we order something and discover that it is going to be dispatched from China...on a boat...when the shipping container is full...(or not, as the case may be).

I reckon my Prime fee is value for money as I seem to get a lot of free books/mags on my Kindle and have found quite a few things to see on Prime Video recently.

NameChangeUni · 03/08/2018 17:07

Well cost cutting I suppose. I thought it was public knowledge that amazon operate on very thin profit margins. Amazon has grown substantially and it might not be cost effective to deliver things within 1 day to the majority of their UK customers anymore as they probably have much more orders to process then they did when they first launched prime with next day delivery

PrtScn · 03/08/2018 17:07

I’m currently taking advantage of the Student Prime, but I’ve not had any issues. I can order today and get it tomorrow, no delays. In fact for my last subscribe and save item, it arrived 2 days earlier than they said it would!

Hamiltoes · 03/08/2018 17:08

I think it’s to do with third party sellers who are kind of ruining the site.

Everything on Amazon is third party, it's just Amazon hold some stock (the prime stuff). I've noticed more and more they are using Royal Mail which is really annoying and the reason I always used them over Ebay in the first place! The Amazon couriers will leave stuff in the shed for you but Royal Mail won't do it so you have to haul your arse to the depot on a Saturday morning. Annoying and I feel I might as well go back to Ebay.

GreatWesternValkyrie · 03/08/2018 17:08

TwoFs I hate that! I’ve had two deliveries recently where I’ve paid for Saturday delivery and the drivers turned up the day before - I’m guessing they thought they’d try their luck so that they could reduce working time on Saturday. One parcel left with a neighbour, the other left behind a bin!

I called both retailers and requested a refund of the deliveries very charge as I am paying extra for a delivery time suits me, not their driver.

It’s not the end of the world I know but I probably make 85% of my purchases online and don’t want my neighbours taken advantage of just because they’re usually at home when I’m not!

Kescilly · 03/08/2018 17:08

Yes, the delivery time got worse for us. Plus most of the drivers weren't even delivering, just saying that they had attempted delivery without even coming up to the door. One claimed to deliver to our garden but the whole complex was flats, not a garden in sight! I got worried they'd think I was stealing because I had to claim from them so much.

Between the false delivery times, lack of delivery, fake reviews, bullying third party sellers, jacked up prices on Prime items, and all the human rights issues, we decided to cancel our subscription last year. I had been a subscriber for a very long time but couldn't ignore it anymore.

Strangely, we haven't missed it at all.
