Four In A Bed secrets

Sort of a thread about a thread but I’m loving the Come Dine With Me thread on AIBU.

So, AIBU to want to know if anyone has been on Four In A Bed or knows anyone who has?

I have to confess, if money was no object, I’d buy a B&B and go on the show.

I have stayed in the one where they showed off all their "disabled features" to the guy who was just old, it was awful. The lady who ran it wouldn't let us go to bed because she needed to tell us about her husband's health and mental health issues, We had an early start and didn't get to bed until gone 2am! The one that won that week (really nearby) has closed now I think (I have tried booking it a few times but it always shows no availability)

My favourite episode was the one where they all overpaid for the nice Welsh (?) Lady's one because they all thought she was lovely but had really low confidence. She came across as really sweet. One of the other ones was a really posh mansion with a spa attached, she'd apparently never been somewhere so fancy.

I don't watch the individual episodes, but I do like the omnibus episodes (I watched about 20 in a row when 4oD brought in autoplay!)

LostInShoebiz · 02/08/2018 08:11

Do they use their own personal money to pay? If they do then it must colour their judgement so much, especially if they stay anywhere fancy/southern/in a major city.

Wow that is just Odd but that woman did burst into tears because she didn't like the smell of curry and was obsessed with her disabled hospital room.

MrsJayy · 02/08/2018 08:49

I think they get given money to pay I can't see anybody paying to go to 3 other B&Bs

mrsnec · 02/08/2018 09:03

I am a fan of it too and have been put off booking places because of it.
Two separate hotels in Bournemouth because I didn't like how the owners came across and a place near Bath which won butwas eyewateringly expensive for what it was.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 02/08/2018 09:54

There was one woman in an early series who was trying to be posh. She put flower petals down her loo to make it look nicer.

PaulRuddislush · 02/08/2018 09:58

The woman from happy donkey hill was spammed with loads of fake negative trip advisor reviews every time her episodes were shown, she really was horrible though.

MrsJayy · 02/08/2018 10:01

Donkey Hill Woman was vile she clearly thought Edinburgh couple needed brought down a peg or 2 .

WelshieBach · 02/08/2018 10:01

Can someone link the come dine with me thread?? I can't find it!!

MissionItsPossible · 02/08/2018 10:02

I can’t believe that all they win is a plaque. Is it worth it to potentially trash your business?

Clionba · 02/08/2018 10:09

The clever ones use it to promote their business. They don't game play, but just promote an attractive, well run establishment, and it doesn't matter if they lose.

Everyoneiswingingit · 02/08/2018 12:04

The over the top reactions to a hair found in a room or a spider annoys me. It doesn't mean a bed is dirty, just that someone was in the room , probably the cleaner. Unless everyone that enters wears hair nets I don't see how this can be avoided.

PippaPug · 02/08/2018 12:08

Just started on series one episode one according to 4OD - it’s the couple who have the happy donkey hill and She is coming across horribly, the couple who are part of Mensa and cries over curry, the older couple from scotland who seem lovely and as far as I can tell a relatively normal couple!

Ordering breakfast in real life: Full English please

Ordering breakfast on FIAB: Can I have the Full English, one egg friend, one poached, Vegan Sausages, gluten free sour dough bread slightly toasted and a side of organic muesli.

I love it!

I know it's been said a dozen times already but: I HATE THE SCORING!!
They're supposed to pay what they think the stay is worth - not take the going rate as 10/10 and take money off for things they don't like. Often a place with few facilities is priced accordingly but will still lose money for not having them. Or somewhere in a major tourist location will be marked down for being "expensive", when it's actually reasonable for the area.

Mailfuckoff · 02/08/2018 13:03

I've stayed at the court house with the American lady house. We had the judges room with our own privet turrant and pretty much the run of the place. It's an amazing building and the owner was lovely. She made me amazing American pancakes for breakfast.

iheartjaffas · 02/08/2018 13:05

I love watching how defensive the owners can get, and the stereotypes!! The villain of the piece (usually the solo B&B owner in the competition) dramatically underpaying to salt of the earth couple and causing outrage. It's trashy but it's good trashy.

MissionItsPossible · 02/08/2018 13:11

I saw one once where the comment about breakfast was something like “Perfect. Couldn’t have asked for more” and scored 9!!

pudcat · 02/08/2018 13:17

The ones that are on today have Steph and Dom in it from Gogglebox

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 02/08/2018 13:28

Don't know whether anyone else can fill in the gaps in my memory, but there was one week when there was quite a scatty lady who slept in either a loft space or mezzanine above a room with two male guests sleeping below Grin

She provided champagne at breakfast time but was so hopeless with the food that the guests took over.

I think it was a kind of farm setting somewhere in Sussex.

@WelshieBach there's the CDWM link for you.

longwayoff · 02/08/2018 13:46

What puzzles me is that lots of them seem to forget they're getting a massive chunk of free advertising. If you're pleasant to other people, your place is clean and your sausages are up to scratch it can only be a good thing for loads of potential customers to see that. If you bitch and moan and deviously underpay, lie and cheat than then we dont trust you and will be off to the Holiday Inn thanks very much.

ellenanora5 · 02/08/2018 14:01

Someone mentioned Brock, I remember him he was pain in the neck, wasn't he on the one with the boat people, cost a fortune for a night but everything was included, the boat owner had a black eye, every time it's repeated I watch wondering will we find out how he got the black eye Grin

There was a guy on TIAB years ago who had really long hair and beard and shaved it all off half way through, I think he had a camping place and I'm pretty sure he turned up on FIAB with a girlfriend and a barge, if it wasn't him it must have been a relation because he was very like him.

longwayoff · 02/08/2018 14:08

Disabled room woman. Didn't they brag they were both members of MENSA? The organisation for people not intelligent enough to realise that if you have to signpost it so blatantly that you're not as clever as you think you are.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 02/08/2018 14:13

The scoring annoys me but think maybe it would be better basing the winner on combined scores rather than bringing money in to it

Absolutely fantastic breakfast, couldn't fault it - 7
Breakfast consisted of being pointed towards a mouldy loaf of bread and a toaster. All we had was dry mouldy toast that we had to make ourselves - 9

Found a single hair after pulling all of the drawers out of the unit and looking behind them - 2
Expected to sleep in the shed, sharing it with a huge spider and sleeping on top of the dusty lawnmower - 8

(Ok, maybe not quite that bad, but not far off it!)

darksideofthemooncup · 02/08/2018 16:03

Marvellousnightforamooncup, I used to work for Lamborghini Londonand Danny Lambo was a regular customer. He is absolutely batshit and very full of himself
