Sort of a thread about a thread but I’m loving the Come Dine With Me thread on AIBU.

So, AIBU to want to know if anyone has been on Four In A Bed or knows anyone who has?

I have to confess, if money was no object, I’d buy a B&B and go on the show.

I love it.

The forensic level room inspections are ridiculous. Who pulls out the shower trap to scrutinise it?

I am always surprised at how greedy and demanding most of the people are at breakfast. Or the ones when the hosts just cba to make breakfast and give them some sort of crappy breakfast basket.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 02/08/2018 19:11

I had to stop watching it. It's so blatantly obvious that the crew are planting hairs in the rooms, and the scoring is ridiculously unfair.

NettleTea · 02/08/2018 19:14

We run a glamping site in the south east and have been asked several times to be on it. I have always said No Way because I dont want to end up being the wierd oddball place, and we are close to a bit of a swanky area, so know Im going to end up having to host a load of townies who scream at the sight of mud and have a fainting fit in the compost loos (which are actually very nice)
I also put my heart and soul into designing and building the place, so would find it really hard to hear people ripping us to shreds for the sake of a fiver.
Plus I would no doubt be extra lovely about the other peoples places as am a bit 'look on the bright side' which would be my downfall.

Clionba · 02/08/2018 19:32

You'd come out of it really well then, NettleTea. It's a way of publicising your business, but you're right, it's not without it's downsides.

NettleTea · 02/08/2018 22:39

Its scary Clionba
what if they made me look a right twat
what if the people found something I really hadnt thought of.
we dont cook breakfast - we provide hampers and they would have to cook themselves - they are going to hate that.

Id make them do forest school for grown ups and eat foraged food tho, which might be funny if they are idiots

Some people come across as lovely, though. Just be yourselves, don't try to win and you'll come across as having integrity. If you've got a good product it's worth promoting. I've looked at some that have lost, but they've been lovely people with nice B&Bs.

ellenanora5 · 02/08/2018 23:40

Veronica and Saida are on tomorrow on more4, starts at 11.35.

1happyhippie · 03/08/2018 00:11

Oh I love four in a bed!
Remember the one with the single male who ran a nudist b&b? Where a father and son pulled the wardrobe out to look behind for cobwebs and found a porn movie ? It was hilarious
Charlotte churches parents were on an early episode of it too,
I agree with others that the scoring system is very annoying. The best b&b doesn't always win!

CrispbuttyNo1 · 03/08/2018 00:24

I know a couple whose little pub/hotel was featured. They came across as twats on the show, and believe me they are even worse in real life.

morningconstitutional2017 · 03/08/2018 08:19

It's pure entertainment and the scoring is not the only unfair thing about it. It would be better if they pitched similar places against each other. A 3 B&B will usually score higher than a 1 glamping site so it's an unfair concept to begin with. I dislike the gamesmanship so rarely watch it now.

A friend of a friend went on with his eco-friendly camp site - suffice to say he didn't win.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 03/08/2018 08:27

Hubby was on an episode of it in Edenbridge. He wasn’t a contestant but a bit of filler as they were near Hever Castle so did some filming there. They did some Tudor dancing.

The scoring as everyone else has said drives me nuts. People being marked down for the silliest of things.

MrsJayy · 03/08/2018 08:33

Not something you here often They did some Tudor dancing Grin

Clionba · 03/08/2018 08:35

Not the worst activity. I remember one where they got the other guests to clean out a boat.

TheFairyCaravan · 03/08/2018 08:52

I love FIAB

There was that episode where the bloke ran a nudist B&B. His guests were sat in the hot tub and he came out stark bollock naked with a tray full of drinks.

Another one that sticks in my mind was a woman from Skegness, I think it was, who got dumped by her partner half way through the week.

HectorlovesKiki · 03/08/2018 09:29

The show is highly edited & often, the keenest game players deduct the most from everyone & wins the game - it's ridiculous.

My friends went on FIAB & one of the contestants was absolutely vile.
He threatened Channel 4 if they portrayed him in a bad light he would sue them. Oh what a lovely man the edited version made him seem.

Also, the other contestants didn't discover till afterwards that his normal rate was per person (so, a couple would pay double rates) but for the programme he deliberately changed the rate from per person to per room, which effectively meant he was charging half his usual price.

My friends received 100% payment but didn't win because this particular contestant's charges were perceived as excellent value for money so he was overpaid & won the competition. It's unjust & I no longer watch it now as I don't like being manipulated by TV producers, same as I stopped watching Big Brother years ago.

Notso · 03/08/2018 09:38

Love FIAB.
I get so annoyed by some of them, one irritating Welsh couple who sang all the time, kept going on and on about how up for a laugh they were, and moaning about other 'stuck up' couples got put in an amazing shepherds hut. The Welsh woman was in tears about it and obviously not up for anything.
A couple who were Greek possibly who's B&B wasn't very good but everyone was kind as they seemed so nice but they were really mean in all their comments.

arriettyspiders · 03/08/2018 10:30

It is always unjust, Hector.

arriettyspiders · 03/08/2018 10:30

Well mostly

LuluJakey1 · 03/08/2018 10:51

The one that made me most uncomfortable was a woman in Whitby who was cleanliness mad, cried because she thought there were not enough fire exit signs in someone else's B and B and clearly had mental health issues- she was absolutely over-wrought and earnest about everything. She insisted on doing everything herself. It was so stressful for her. She became paranoid. It was awful to watch.

arriettyspiders · 03/08/2018 10:58

I remember that one, lulu. She seemed too emotionally sensitive to be on a programme like that. I hope she’s alright now. Her B and B was super clean and comfortable looking I think?

LuluJakey1 · 03/08/2018 11:05

Yes, it was spotlessly clean. I was quite worried about her, she seemed very fragile.

LuluJakey1 · 03/08/2018 11:07

I think the B and B, although very very clean was a bit dated and she was upset when they said that. It was just really uncomfortable watching. It meant so much to her and she was so upset by little things.

Clionba · 03/08/2018 11:09

It was value for money, though because her rates were so low. I think she just got very over wrought. She had a nice friend with her.

Raglansleeve · 03/08/2018 11:15

We were contacted to be on it - snowball's chance in hell.
As a B&B owner, I hate it.

Obviously the production company is looking for people who'll create a bit of drama, but it makes it appear as if all B&B owners are fecking lunatics! You only have to read some of the comments on here that people are put off staying in B&Bs because of this crud.

I'm boringly ordinary, provide clean, comfortable accommodation with a good breakfast for a very reasonable price with no daft gimmicks and no hairs in the beds!
