Basically what it says in the title.

My soon to be wife is dead against it as she believes all that crap on the Internet about it causing autism etc

I called the doctors and she told me i would need her consent but to be honest she sounded like she just wanted to get me off the phone or maybe didn't actually know.

He is 2 in a few weeks and honestly i forgot all about it until something reminded me.

Surely being the dad i should be able to get it done i doubt she would need my consent if it was the other way around right?

And also *love. All a GP or HCP does is recommend. They don’t mandate.

That’s what the justice/legal system is for. I wouldn’t want to live in a society where GPS could direct me into what health choices I make. I ultimately want to decide and choose for myself

Here in Australia, they've changed the law so that if you don't; immunise, you don't get your parenting payment....which is I think for childcare...they may have recently made the sanction even stronger....I can't remember but I think they're removing another payment for parents who don't immunise.

A lot of people say that this is over the top and Nanny State-like. But I think it's a bloody good idea.

Why should the ignorant affect the innocent? Babies and those with compromised immune systems are at risk daily due to these fools.

Wasn't it yesterday (Friday) that OP was planning to take action? May we have an update OP?

Replying to recent comments - it's certainly possible to be both not-stupid but misinformed as to the facts of the matter. It is stupid not to then take steps to access correct information. It is stupid not to check sources of information and it is stupid not to understand that science isn't a matter of opinion and whilst people are entitled to their own opinions they are not entitled to their own facts. It is a fact that not vaccinating is much more dangerous than accepting the very small risks of vaccinating.

I completely agree that OP going behind the mum's back will be hugely damaging to the relationship but it would be massively irresponsible parenting to prioritise the relationship over the health and wellbeing of his child.

Imchlibob · 04/08/2018 06:32

Isn't it also the case that in some countries you can't access free state education or childcare if the child isn't up to date with vaccinations. That would be a very sensible legal change (with exceptions granted if a gp confirms that the child has an allergy or immune-system condition which indicates vaccines are unwise in a tiny fraction of kids who can benefit from herd immunity if everyone else is vaccinated)

AjasLipstick · 04/08/2018 06:39

Here in South Australia they are soon to implement what they call "No jab no play" meaning that un- immunised children will not be allowed to attend the following

childcare (also called centre based care, long day care and early learning centres)
family day care (that's like a childminder)
preschool and kindergarten
rural care program
mobile child care services
occasional care.

bruffin · 04/08/2018 06:50

Dd is doing Camp America. She has had to prove all her vaccines including hep b and immunity to chickenpox to go .

How does that work for the kids who can’t be immunised? I know there’s not many but is there a form ir the likes that you can have stamped by a doctor if they advise against vaccination?

AjasLipstick · 05/08/2018 09:48

Ex if a child can't be immunised then that's fine. They're exempt.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 05/08/2018 11:15

I just don’t think forcing is ok. What if you wouldn’t of vaccinated, are forced to and your child dies. Government won’t care but it’s going to hurt you for life isn’t it. I can’t imagine going through something like that. Yes, I know kids can die from catching diseases due to loss of herd immunity but it would not have been government forced and somehow feels different. I have a child with a lowered immune system and still think we can’t force people. I’d like to add that this ehappily getting the flu nasal spray need to understand that you are a risk to anyone that has a lowered immune, is a baby or elderly. For up to 28 days you need to stay away from people so as to keep them safe.

wouldn't have 🙄

QuackPorridgeBacon · 05/08/2018 11:30

Blaablaablaa Sorry, was that aimed at me?

Blaablaablaa · 05/08/2018 11:38

Yes. Simple, basic English. It helps if you're trying to put forward an argument people can take seriously

bruffin · 05/08/2018 11:43

For up to 28 days you need to stay away from people so as to keep them safe.

where do you get that from
from this fact sheet
" Despite the overall low risk of transmission, some parents of children with
immune problems have been concerned about their child being exposed to
vaccinated children in the two weeks following vaccination. In the US, where
there has been extensive use of LAIV for many years, serious illness amongst
immunocompromised contacts who are inadvertently exposed to vaccine
virus has never been observed. Expert doctors at Great Ormond Street
Hospital, who deal with many children with very serious immune problems, do
not recommend keeping such children off school purely because of vaccination"

I do know someone who a woman who, after having the MMR jag as a baby was left completely disabled, she is in a wheelchair and her brain doesn't function properly, she needs full time care. I still took my children for their jags.

Timeisslippingaway · 05/08/2018 11:50

Sorry made a mess of the fist line!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 05/08/2018 11:59

Blaablaablaa I made a mistake, was there any need to be so rude?

bruffin From my daughters specialists. She has had a heart transplant and the nasal flu spray is a risk. Even more so when the GP fucks about with her flu jab and delays it until November one year. It’s a joke, so no, she wasn’t safe when people were getting the spray. Plan to get it in September this year and will be ringing soon to arrange it. Let’s hope they pull their finger out this time. When she starts school I’m worried about the spray, I don’t want to keep her off but then do I really want a hospital visit? Just catching a bug has her in hospital.

Blaablaablaa · 05/08/2018 12:12

But you are making ridiculous, nonsense claims which were exacerbated by a distinct lack of basic English

bruffin · 05/08/2018 12:16

Quackporridge

if she is vulnerable to the very milder form of the disease from the nasal spray then she is far more vulnerable to the actual disease and basically most other bugs kids carry around with them

ExFury · 05/08/2018 14:26

This is what terrified me when my first was small. I grew up around uni a child who was badly disabled as a result of vaccination damage.

I got yelled at, called stupid and numerous other things when I questioned giving DD1 all the vaccinations. People were derisory and rude, which made me defensive because I could see that vaccines could cause damage and people just felt the need to yell “they’re safe at me”. And Jesus looking online for information when you didn’t really know where to look - forget it! It’s so scary it was almost enough to turn me into a hermit.

In the end it was the friend of my parents whose child was damaged to spoke to me rationakky and kindly. They had actual facts. Not “all vaccines are safe so just do it” but actually facts and figures about how rare their daughters side effects were and the likes.

Proper information does help with people who are nervous. Especially if you take the time to find out why they are nervous and address that specific point rather than just assuming someone is an idiot with no base for their fear.
