To feel terrified after reading the prepping for Brexit threads?

LittleNapRefuser · 28/07/2018 20:26

I have genuinely cried real tears of fear after reading the threads on prepping for Brexit today. I have a toddler and right now I am terrified of what is to come and their future after all this.

I don't really have anyone to talk to about this in 'real life' because most people I know aren't reading the news or don't seem to care.

Should I be terrified? Should I be scared for my baby's future? Can anyone reassure me or offer me an alternative perspective on all this. I don't want to to put my head in the sand but I feel really afraid.

Yes please! Sign the petition for your say on the final deal we eventually agree to.
Who knows it might work!
I too voted to remain and was devastated with the vote to leave.
We were completely lied to by the likes of Nigel Farage and other politicians.
I’m also angry that we were given the referendum in the first place.
One of the main reasons people voted leave was immigration. It’s interesting that a lot of people on this thread are saying they will move to another country if things get tough here.
But what if the countries we want to move to also close their borders?

StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2018 22:47

Nobody knows. But the vast majority of economists are predicting that it will be a bad thing.

velourvoyageur · 28/07/2018 22:47

Oh but no...I didn't find out who the controlling boy was though? shit man, didn't milk the expert while i could

keyboard positive vibes, oh that's what those 'heartwarming' (© mogg) foodbanks are for right?

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 22:48

@rainbowsandsmiles yes I can understand why you would see that as self-fulfilling. But why take a chance and leave to our government to sort out? They are the ones saying it will be a disaster. Yes, no one knows the true extent of how bad it will be. But it will be bad, it just depends on what degree of bad you're happy to tolerate.

rainbowsandsmiles · 28/07/2018 22:48

Velour - come again? Confused

StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2018 22:48

La la la I CAN'T HEAR YOU
happy in my deluded bubble

keyboardkate · 28/07/2018 22:48

If it's all going to be so great, where are all the preps (sorry) for the Big Bang Leave Date parties everywhere.

You know the celebrations and flag waving to delight in our sovereignty being returned and our borders being closed to furriners and many a Trade Deal agreed overnight as a Third Country.

No one apart from those who will make millions from a crash out deal believe there will be anything but mayhem. But are too terrified to step outside their box to say it out loud.

You just could not make this stuff up could you?

HotDamnItsHot · 28/07/2018 22:49

The UK is fucked. We live elsewhere n the EU and are getting nationality, luckily we've been here long enough. The UK, fucked by people that didn't even really know the reality if what they were voting for. Sad state of affairs and I'm glad we are no longer there.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 28/07/2018 22:49

No my IQ is not 205, I lied - it's 300

350 million a week?

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 22:51

Even Farage is saying 'I didn't say it would be beneficial to leave the EU' erm yes you fucking did matey. He knows it will be a catastrophe of epic proportions. But he's alright Jack, cos he's minted innit

StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2018 22:51

Hang out the bunting
Line up to wave off a immigrant

LuluJakey1 · 28/07/2018 22:52

I can't believe the panic and scaremongering. I'm off to bed . Some of you need to get a grip and stop being bullies and creating dramas. You are falling straight into the Remain trap. Life will not change significantly. It never does.

BakedBeans47 · 28/07/2018 22:52

I know we went through wars but it wasn’t a situation that people voted for.

I’m quite concerned that it’s going to be pretty shit. I console myself by hoping that it will be even worse for the people who voted for it.

bellinisurge · 28/07/2018 22:52

I'm sorry if this is scary for you. I've been contributing to a lot of these threads trying to encourage people to keep it simple and just look at planning for 3 days worth of stuff- imagine you are snowed in for three days. Think of what you would need from morning to night in the way of meals, drinks, snacks and treats. And make sure you have stuff like toothpaste in.
We have a fragile food distribution system called Just in Time. Supermarkets don't hold a lot of stocks and are vulnerable to the slightest hiccup be it weather related or whatever. They eventually right themselves but it takes time.
I'm a prepper, I know this stuff.
The likelihood of power and water supply problems are much less.
Having some extra put by gives you more control if it gets tricky at the supermarket.
I have kids too.

velourvoyageur · 28/07/2018 22:53

Oh sorry 'rainbow I was just referring to something posted earlier on the thread
:)

Prev posters: am i being unreasonable to be concerned that i'll be unable to afford essentials due to the current political and economic upheaval because I currently have very little margin in my weekly budget as it is.
Other (presumably rather richer) posters: yup you're being an idiot, never mind if bread goes up by 10p and you can't afford it, we can, so we can't imagine anyone being that unfortunate, and sooo we've decided you're actually just being hysterical. Done, dusted.

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 22:54

@rainbowsandsmiles the expert is our friend Linda with the mahoosive IQ who thinks Mickey Mouse runs the EU and that we will be better off by £350 million squillion gazillion grips a week or something like that.

'Heartwarming' is a dig at JRM

Avaz · 28/07/2018 22:54

NO WE WILL NOT BE £350/week better off!
That was the figure bandied about by leave campaign but was the biggest lie in the world.
No one know yet what penalties we will have to pay. Plus we are a country that produces little and imports much so the premiums we will be paying on imports will certainly be much much higher than the figure bandied about.
Take care! Little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

rainbowsandsmiles · 28/07/2018 22:54

Well said lulujakey.

BMW6 · 28/07/2018 22:54

Anyway, back to the original OP (if she hasn't passed out from hyperventilation by now).

There MAY be some shortages for a while till WTO is sorted. Not Armageddon by any stretch of anyone's over active imagination. If it would comfort you by getting in a few extra supplies, do so, within reason.

I suggest dried pasta and tinned tomatoes. Powdered milk. Some tins of tuna perhaps. Then you know you won't starve, and you will always be able to eat through those stocks when the initial kerfuffle dies down.

No need to fill rooms full of the stuff. Just enough for two meals a day for, say, 6 months.

And get some Rescue Remedy.

Justanotherlurker · 28/07/2018 22:57

Sign the petition for your say on the final deal we eventually agree to.

A change.org petition is the absolute pinnacle of slacktivism. if you think signing that will have any impact other than to generate more Independent click bait articles then I am not sure what to say.

If you can name just one thing of any real relevance that a change.org petition has done then I will gladly sign it.

I will use a fake email though as they are know email harvester and sell them on, maybe that is the Independants overall aim

velourvoyageur · 28/07/2018 22:57

Life will not change significantly. It never does.

no the UK will not becoming a developing country suddenly.
but how silly to say that circumstances can't change for individuals in a snap :/ literally all that is being asked is, in a situation where the distinction can amount to a fiver a week, 'aibu to worry that i will go from being on the poverty line to being below the poverty line for a short-term period'. and people are telling them to suck it up and shut up.
i would be pissed off and anxious if that was my situation.

rainbowsandsmiles · 28/07/2018 22:57

Rescue Remedy definitely needed too I think Smile plenty of it. Smelling salts and hankies too.

OlennasWimple · 28/07/2018 22:57

The difference with Brexit is that we are choosing to do this to ourselves - no-one is forcing our hand, everyone else (bar Putin and Trump Hmm ) thinks that we are crazy to be doing it

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 28/07/2018 22:58

Baby woke up so I'm back Grin

@velour we never did find out who the dude at the top was did we?

You know, sarcasm asidel, I would like nothing better than for someone who clearly knows what they are talking about to come along and give us good reason to trust that it is all GOING TO BE FINE. Contrary to what some posters may think, I have no desire to give in to hysteria. I'd very much welcome a positive outlook, I am sure we ALL would. But I'm not getting that. Thank you to those who have posted respectful arguments trying to abate these fears. I'm just not convinced I'm afraid. Too much conjecture and uncertainty. Our government clearly lost their rudder a while back, never thought I'd ever feel sorry for Theresa May but I actually do. What an unholy mess.

EmilyBishopmyconfession · 28/07/2018 23:00

I’m quite concerned that it’s going to be pretty shit. I console myself by hoping that it will be even worse for the people who voted for it.

Not sure this is a healthy approach to life.
