To think it's not hot at all

Jkoakham · 26/07/2018 11:44

I'm here in a blanket in the south west in a 3 story Edwardian and it's cloudy.

I've felt other heatwaves but this one doesn't even register tbh

Goodness want2be I am glad you had a friend able to do that.

I also think that people who stay in typically hot places are acclimatised to it. You adjust your activities and behaviour.

I have seen a number of older people wearing thick clothes, jumpers etc and many layers. It must be such a habit that they simply don’t think about it. I have also seen people wearing very little clothing in tight fibres and sitting in direct sunshine. It’s a novelty and loads of people just don’t cope well with it.

soupforbrains · 27/07/2018 13:53

@Piggywaspushed they probably have, and that's why they're starting at 6:30am in order to try and get more of the work done before it heats up.

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2018 14:39

Yes, I'm sure they are soup and I don't envy them working in the heat but since they did bugger all for the previous 10 temperate weeks my sympathy is a touch limited! It is also against council regs. Hey ho. I wouldn't begrudge them a few dyas off, tbh.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 27/07/2018 16:32

Wildfires raging in quite a few areas across the country. We desperately need rain!

31°c here in S London. Just had a rain shower that lasted about a minute. Can hear thunder quietly rumbling away in the distance so hopefully that’ll bring heavy rain with it.

I’m glad it’s not hot here or we’d be in trouble Hmm

pigsDOfly · 27/07/2018 16:55

We're having the same thing in East Sussex. It got a bit dark, rained heavily for a few seconds stopped and I suspect it's going to get hot and humid now.

Just want some nice temperate weather. Hardly slept last night and feel completely washed out now.

Fevs · 27/07/2018 17:22

@Jkoakham Maybe that's just it - it's a south east thing and people not being able to cope with a few degrees more.
The weather this year has been amazing. Mid 20s for the summer and lots of snow in the winter.

I think you’ve missed the point.
It’s not that Londoners can’t cope with a ‘few degrees more’ it’s that the weather and living conditions are different depending on where you live in the country and what style of property you live in!

I love the sun but it’s been 32 degrees most nights in all of our bedrooms. That’s very hot and very uncomfortable.
In the day there’s no breeze, it’s just thick muggy air.
Each to their own and your weather sounds lovely (up north?) but down south it hasn’t been pleasant no.

jenkel · 27/07/2018 17:26

It hit 37 degrees today in my garden and 33 in my living room, I’m in Herts, believe me it’s hot......

Bekstar · 27/07/2018 17:29

Well it's 37 in my house at moment, it's horrible, not. Much cooler outside. I did have windows open until workmen shut them earlier cos they were angle grinding on the property over road. But I do have an electric fan n it's been on constant (we in Durham) but even if I move the moment er near the fan it only goes down to 32

ChaffyMcChaff · 27/07/2018 17:30

I'm in Norfolk...today it's hit 36 degrees here...it was 32 degrees when I went out at 9am this morning! No air and a lots of clouds, which makes it incredibly unpleasant, muggy and humid...I am literally wet through! My hair is plastered to my head and I feel filthy from the sticky sweat. Yesterday I showered 3 times and it wasn't enough...today I don't even have the energy for that...will shower before bed. I worry about the very young and elderly as they are vulnerable in this. I watched a young guy walking his black Labrador at 1pm past my house...it was 36 degrees and the pavement was blistering!! I did go outside and remind him that his dog cannot sweat the heat out and could become very ill...he rather charmingly told me to 'fuck off'! I despair 😢😰

So yeah...YABVU!

ChaffyMcChaff · 27/07/2018 17:31

Oh...and we've not had any of the promised rain...last rained here early June!

user1471590586 · 27/07/2018 17:33

I'm in the Midlands and the temperature was 28 degrees in my hall earlier. Have been finding it impossible to sleep.

m0therofdragons · 27/07/2018 17:34

My grandma had it at 39 degrees in London. At 92 years old she's struggling a bit. It's also very humid so even though it's cooler at night it's very sticky. I'm in the south west. It's nice but not too hot at all now. Two weeks ago was so hot I couldn't sit outside for long and work wasn't the most pleasant place (lots of stickiness). Varies from region to region.

Dillydallyer · 27/07/2018 17:36

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie HRTFT but not hot in Yorkshire?! Goodness, are you bonkers? My daughter’s room was 31 degrees at 3am today and hers isn’t the hottest room in the house. I’m genuinely considering buying an air con unit. Or moving to Russia. Whichever is quickest Wink

Sparkerparker · 27/07/2018 17:37

AIBU to think people have go way too much time on their hands to start a thread like this. REALLY.

michellej76 · 27/07/2018 17:41

It’s nit just a few degrees more- it’s been 35 here today!!! With no air movement at all! Now I love the heat, the sun and the summer, but it’s crazy, muggy, kids don’t want to be out! And surely OP you can see a weather map on the news and compare the hot places to you? Some places are mid 20s, some are mid 30s! Don’t try telling people that they are being unreasonable when it’s 35!

Mummyof0ne · 27/07/2018 17:43

I’m pregnant and struggling so I wouldn’t agree x

twinklz · 27/07/2018 17:44

It’s raining here near swansea and going to rain heavy over the weekend. However, yesterday my car read 40 degrees.

Yujismum · 27/07/2018 17:47

ChaffyMcChaff, bloke telling you to F off ......never mind that his dogs paws will be blistering by now and extremely painful. Human beings are so bloody selfish. But to the subject of the thread....surely part of the issue is that we are individuals and in winter I am 90% of the time warm, don’t have to wear gloves, love the rain, wind and sun, in other words I like weather not some Californian relentless sun/heat.
So when those who feel cold in winter feel comfortable at these temperatures, 33C where I live, I feel like I’m wearing a very thick fur coat. I experience it as the worst kind of weather, burning and destructive. I hate it with a passion. I was born here and grew up with a temperate climate. 1976 was a bloody nightmare as far as I’m concerned, remember it well.

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 27/07/2018 17:49

Well you’ve missed it by the sound of it. It’s been blisteringly hot here.

BanquoGhostie · 27/07/2018 17:51

Try having menopausal hot flushes and a heatwave as well!!

jessebuni · 27/07/2018 17:51

I live in a top floor flat all but one of my windows is south facing. I live in Hampshire. For the past month or so my flat hasn’t gotten below 27 degrees inside even with windows shut in day time and open at night and all curtains closed during the day. I can deal with the heat outside it’s been cooler outside today than inside. What I can’t deal with is not being able to retreat somewhere cool and shady indoors to get away from the heat when I want to. My children have been camping out on the sitting room floor for weeks because it’s too hot on their cabin beds which are higher to the ceiling. So yes, where we live it’s hot!

BunsyGirl · 27/07/2018 17:51

27 in my living room and 29 in my bedroom. We have one air con unit which we keep moving around the house. Desperately need another but can’t get one for love nor money. Three power cuts already today. Kids are lethargic and bored as there are so few places that are comfortable to visit in this temperature. So wish we were in Dubai or Vegas so that we could be having loads of indoor air conditioned fun!

greeneyedlulu · 27/07/2018 17:52

Registered 36 degrees in the bedrooms last night!! I think that's hot!

CasanovaFrankenstein · 27/07/2018 17:53

It's been blazing hot today (Midlands). Can't ever remember such a period of dry & sustained heat.

Leapfrog44 · 27/07/2018 17:53

I'm with you! It;s freaking glorious and cooler than we usually get in Italy at this time.
