Who's watching?
I love George.

that's the BBC for you. It's not limited to the BBC - convicted rapists etc find work in Hollywood. Hmm

PeppermintPasty · 25/07/2018 22:36

I'm 'of Celtic origin' -love that!- and I'm old, born in the late 60s. I recall him as a bit of a self centred wally really. Most of my schoolmates thought the same. CC were ok, nothing special. Not sure why some people are going all squishy about him. Love the show though.

southeastdweller · 25/07/2018 22:36

Temptress have you heard of libel?

shins · 25/07/2018 22:37

It was great - I'm a genealogy nerd and Irish and an 80s pop kid so it kept on giving!Grin

Loved his Dub aunty Phyllis. Everyone has an aunty Phyllis here, it's the law...

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2018 22:38

It was all about Duran Duran for me in the 80s but Culture Club wote some great tunes and won a Grammy IIRC. I definitely bought their albums.

Iflyaway · 25/07/2018 22:39

Yikes! Never knew that!

How awful.…

theliverpoolone · 25/07/2018 22:40

Well, I really enjoyed this - I found the stories about his ancestors tragic but incredibly interesting, and thought he was genuinely fascinated and moved by what he discovered. I'm amazed anyone found him lacking in empathy - he was evidently angry about what happened to his grandmother as a 6 yr old, and to his great aunt/uncle.

Iflyaway · 25/07/2018 22:41

Temptress have you heard of libel?

It's not true then? Now I'm confused.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2018 22:41

Who else is on this series?

friendlyflicka · 25/07/2018 22:42

What did he do?

TemptressofWaikiki · 25/07/2018 22:44

Libel would mean that what I said defamed his reputation by being untrue. It’s pretty easy to dig up what he did. He got away very lightly and knows it. He might be a vain fool but even he is not that dumb to rock the boat.

doubleshotespresso · 25/07/2018 22:47

temptress
He is a narcissist and thug, a serial sex offender who got off on preying on vulnerable young male sex workers with addiction issues, sadistically assaulted and kept them imprisoned, completely terrorising them. His actual convictions were only the tip of the iceberg and he got off very lightly. I met a victim and there were many warnings circulated about him not to answer his outcall bookings, due to his disgusting behaviour. He is adept at pretending to be a decent human being but that is just an empty facade.

You could not have got this more wrong if you tried. This is libellous, ill-informed mud-slinging and not at all anywhere close to an accurate summary.

southeastdweller · 25/07/2018 22:48

Temptress is alluding to stuff that Boy George wasn't convicted for, which really isn''t wise to do on a public forum. It doesn't matter that it's apparently easy to find elsewhere.

doubleshotespresso · 25/07/2018 22:52

Only easy to find from other ill-informed gossip sites though eh? Not wise at all no and deeply unpleasant

KwatahPanda · 25/07/2018 22:55

@derxa so if someone lured you to their house for a photography session and then with his mate forcibly handcuffed both of your hands so you couldn't escape, held you hostage and then beat you with a sex toy... you'd still think he was super sweet, due to "celtic origins" and being around in the 80s?

Hmm Confused

Well, I think he's just your average sex pest.

Thesearepearls · 25/07/2018 22:58

it's funny about artists. You start out by loving their work and then you realise that they might actually be despicable people

TS Eliot - a fascist
Hemmingway - complete narcissistic woman hater
Gaugain - less said the better

I could just go on and on - the list is endless of painters/singers/writers who are all fairly horrific in their personal lives

You just have to read/watch/listen to their work and appreciate it in isolation from the person that you have read about. And FWIW I absolutely loved BG's voice.

LuluJakey1 · 25/07/2018 22:58

I didn't think he was angry only at what had happened to his ancestor, I thought the man at the jail angered him with his lack of tact and the fact it was almost set up as a bit if entertainment 'Here have a go' with the lever that would have opened the trapdoor. I agreed with George about that - it did feel uncomfortable, particularly to say to someone whose family member died in that spot 'Here have a go'.

fortygin · 25/07/2018 22:58

Great show. I'm in the north and on the other side of the conflict but i can appreciate the dedication and sacrifice for their beliefs. What his great uncle said was the truth...it's the women who suffer most in these conflicts.

KwatahPanda · 25/07/2018 22:59

Not nearly as unpleasant as cooing over a pervert who ruined a man's life because you liked his shit pop songs.

elephantoverthehill · 25/07/2018 23:02

I watched it. I quite enjoy the series, to me it does't really matter about who is fronting it. But what got me annoyed was BG's use of 'hung' rather than 'hanged'. I think he was corrected but it was kind of muted out.

KwatahPanda · 25/07/2018 23:03

That's true, but shows like this are about viewing the artist as a person and sympathetically identifying with him while he is still living a pretty good life despite being a total psycho. This show has nothing to do with his music.

I don't want to see a WDYTYA with Polanski either.

southeastdweller · 25/07/2018 23:09

‘Psycho’? Confused

CoolCarrie · 25/07/2018 23:10

I loved the episode with Patsy Kensit years ago. Never liked her much before that, but she came across a lovely person, and it was moving to see her reactions to her story. BG left me cold in the past, and this programme didn’t change that feeling, but I do find Irish history fascinating, being half irish on my dad’s side.

IHATEPeppaPig · 25/07/2018 23:16

Urgh, how people can still be saying 'I love him' about a convicted sex offender is beyond me. What he did was vile and how the BBC still show him is beyond me.

He is utterly disgusting.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2018 23:17

I remember that one CoolCarrie. Gareth Malone's was also really good.
