Who's watching?
I love George.

I think there are plenty of slebs with utterly dull family histories. My v sleb cousin researched our tree, using professional genealogists, and they found nothing nothing nothing. Nowt. Utterly unremarkable.

MyOtherProfile · 26/07/2018 05:12

Killingy someone was fine, wanking to another consenting adults on a webcam wasn't.
Perhaps because LG served his time for the murder then made a folk of himself with the internet stuff.

Oh so it's a thread for getting stuff off your chest?
I'd say that's one of the main purposes of MN talk boards. That and asking for/ giving info.

lightonthewater · 26/07/2018 05:48

Interesting to see he has cleaned up his act , is sober and is now a Buddhist. I have never liked him or his music but found the programme fascinating from a social history perspective.

abbsisspartacus · 26/07/2018 05:56

Ewww thanks for reminding me about the finger sucking picture captainkirks

southeastdweller · 26/07/2018 07:13

I don't understand the BBC at all for allowing him on there.

They're only bothered about talent and ratings, understandably.

The love on here is mainly for him as an artist. I still listen to his music happily and his first book is a classic of it's kind. It's the same as watching Polanski films or listening to Jerry Lee Lewis songs. There probably wouldn't be much TV or films or music I'd experience if I vetoed all the work of convicted criminals or people who've admitted to dodgy stuff.

surferjet · 26/07/2018 07:22

BG is one of those people who, despite his not so perfect past, lots of people really like.

Although there’s people on here talking like he’s some sort of Jimmy Saville which is ridiculous.

SerenDippitty · 26/07/2018 07:39

David Mitchell discovered that one of his paternal ancestors had helped organise the Highland clearances. He was horrified.

Unfinishedkitchen · 26/07/2018 07:46

The truth is many people don’t care about gay people so the fact that his crime was against a gay sex worker doesn’t bother them. If it had been against a little blond girl, we’d have never heard from him again.

speakout · 26/07/2018 07:52

He is a disgusting piece of work with zero talent.

Fresta · 26/07/2018 07:58

Boy George had plenty to say when George Michael died- he was all over it grasping a bit of publicity for himself with his faux sadness. I’m sure there’s some satisfaction there that even though GM was the bigger star, BG has outlasted him; he’s the winner now!

surferjet · 26/07/2018 08:04

Unfinishedkitchen
Being gay has nothing to do with it, the truth is, many people don’t care about crimes against any sex worker, as they feel they’re putting themselves in a dangerous position by entering ( in many countries ) an illegal profession, & charging people money for their illegal services.
So, to many people, It’s not quite the same as an innocent child being abducted & sexually assaulted.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/07/2018 08:06

Anyway, back to the actual programme. Really interesting and opportunity for British viewers to understand recent Irish history. Brexit has made me realise how lacking the general British view of their own colonial past is.

surferjet · 26/07/2018 08:11

Oh ffs, can’t you keep Brexit to threads about Brexit.

Belindabauer · 26/07/2018 08:17

I loved Boy George when I was young.
He is not a nice person though.
Yes he might have good qualities, doesn't eveyone? But what he did in his personal life makes him a vile person.
He also persused John Moss who I believe had a girldriend/wife and had an affair with him.
There was also the fact that another man has always claimed he wrote Do you really want to hurt me. Although I don't think this could ever be proved.cent

If he had done those things to a woman I don't think posters reactions would be as forgiving.

PiggeryPorcombe · 26/07/2018 08:20

Although there’s people on here talking like he’s some sort of Jimmy Saville which is ridiculous.

So how many people does a celeb have to abuse before they become persona non grata in your view? One is clearly just a minor indiscretion.

BertrandRussell · 26/07/2018 08:23

I was cross enough about him being a judge on that singing thing with his record- the idea of him mentoring people was repulsive. But a programme all about him? Nah.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2018 08:25

There was rage on here when he got to be a judge on The Voice. I have looked for the threads but assume they were in Chat as I can't find them.

Yoksha · 26/07/2018 08:30

Love Boy George. He's the last of the greats for me from the 70's, 80's & 90's. Created great music. When I saw him I wished that David Bowie & George Micheal had participated in this programme.

What resonated with me was the abject poverty of his family. Annie Lennox came from abject poverty. That one fascinated me too.

When the 'hanging room' historian asked him "if he wanted to feel the movement of the drop lever"? I screamed out nooooooo. So glad he saw the macabre of the moment.

I don't know if it's wishful thinking on my part, but his external speech during the programme and my responses inside my mind were in near perfect harmony. It was weird.

MoonsAndJunes · 26/07/2018 08:34

God, he's a complete narcissist! Why do people want to be his friend?

This ^

He was painful to watch in the documentary about the band - 'From Karma to Calamity'

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 26/07/2018 08:39

It's the utter stupidity after Saville and the bloody rest that people assume these things are a one off because one made it to court and in to the head lines.

The one thing I'd have liked for people to have taken from #metoo etc was that "one story" is usually the tip of a pretty filthy iceberg.

southeastdweller · 26/07/2018 08:45

He also persused John Moss who I believe had a girldriend/wife and had an affair with him.

Why on earth would you make such a silly comment in the context of your post Belinda? They were two consenting adults Confused

derxa · 26/07/2018 08:51

I forgot about all the previous BG threads and how they go.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2018 08:59

As soon as I saw your thread title I wondered how many posts before it all kicked off derxa.

speakout · 26/07/2018 09:02

Annie Lennox came from abject poverty. That one fascinated me too.

Oh please- don't change the truth to suit your narrative.

Lennox came from a good home, an only child, both parents worked.
Her father, aunt and uncle were all very musical and sang in a local choir.
Her family paid for her to have music lessons as a kid and were very supportive.

But yes, let's have her growing up in "abject poverty", because it's a better thrill.

MoonsAndJunes · 26/07/2018 09:06

They were two consenting adults

Their 'relationship' was toxic. BG is toxic. Who knows what was consented to or not.
