to think the worst part of the heatwave is the constantly sweaty (ahem) vulva?

Yes, I have NC'd for this. Blush

Anyone else getting irritated by constant irritation due to the heat? The sweat causes 'paper cuts' and it stings when I have a bath etc.

Roll on autumn!!!

@snog How often do you have to reapply that?

I've got a wedding to go to next week and I need to find a solution to the chub rub - not sure about shorts as the dress is a high-low one and the front comes to just above my knees.

picklemepopcorn · 25/07/2018 11:00

Lidl are selling cotton undershorts at the moment. Really comfy. I wear with underwear. I'm a bit startled by everyone going commando- that would finish me off! I am not built to go commando.

Can I recommend wearing a cool wet scarf around your neck? It's a must for me on holiday. Just re wet it when you have the opportunity. It really cools you down.

RavenLG · 25/07/2018 11:06

it’s the fact that I sweat profusely from my forehead and upper lip - extremely embarrassing on public transport
@Hadjab - I feel you! I barely sweat from anywhere except my head. If I get the slightest bit hot my hair looks as wet as after a shower, it's mortifying! I did discover a spray called Odaban, it's like the other sweat blockers like Driclor but a little bottle with a pump spray. Every night I part my hair all over and spray directly onto my scalp. Wash out in the morning and it does actually work. After a week or so you can lower the frequency of applications. It's been a lifesaver in this weather.

Might work on drowning fanjos but not sure it's nether-region suitable! Grin

sweatybumcrack · 25/07/2018 11:11

OP I can completely relate to the paper cuts, but mine are around my anus Blush. The sweat is running down my back I to my bum crack and the irritation is so sore. I have resorted to carrying a n empty bottle around and after going to the loo pouring cold water over nether regions (front and back) Apart from being soothing it washes away sweat rather than just wiping it off with toilet roll. I don't know how people in hot countries manage sweaty bum -itis.

Ihavenoideaatall · 25/07/2018 11:42

Glad -:maybe that's more to do with walking around naked than the weather Grin

Hadjab · 25/07/2018 12:08

@RavenLG grabbing my coat and hat - okay, bikini and towel - and off to get some!!

minipie · 25/07/2018 12:10

OP I had the paper cut thing too - not now but for several years in my 20s. It was eventually diagnosed (after a few red herrings) as vulvar eczema. I was given Locoid steroid cream for it. I think it may have been set off by a bout of thrush (on a humid holiday) but the paper cuts stayed even after the thrush ended.

ChoccoBiccy66 · 25/07/2018 12:10

I don't have the whiteness associated with LS. I am quite an 'allergic' person anyway (allergies to latex, scented sanpro and toilet paper etc) so I think I just have rather delicate skin on my vulva!

I am SO GLAD other posters are saying "oh I thought it was only me" - it's not something you can really talk about in the real world so I am glad that sweaty vulvas are being talked about!! Grin

OP posts:
minipie · 25/07/2018 12:11

Yup LS was one of the red herrings for me!

ginghamstarfish · 25/07/2018 12:11

Interesting tips. Have nothing specifically fanjo-related to add, but to add to a pp's suggestion of a cool wet scarf ... google 'cooling towel', v cheap on ebay or amazon, which is a piece of synthetic fabric (reminds me of crimplene if anyone remembers that) which remarkably does stay cool when wet, rather than warming up to the surrounding temperature. Just re-wet and wring out again when it starts to dry. I have one by the bed and one downstairs, you wrap them around your head, neck or wrists etc, and does have a good general cooling effect. I had tried normal cotton scarves etc but these are much better. Have started to use one when going outside and it does help.

Snog · 25/07/2018 12:12

@eliza9917 I would say maybe reapply after 5 hours but I usually don't need to reapply.

The key thing is not to apply if the skin is already red and sore from previous chub rub. I buy the mini handbag size, it lasts for ages, more than one summer. It's truly magic, when I hear about people needing to wear shorts under clothes or using deodorant and talc I think OMG, somebody tell them about Body Glide. Life changing and so simple and easy.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 25/07/2018 12:14

It's the fact that it just smells 'down there' in this weather without constant washing. I'm especially conscious of it in a floaty dress sitting on seats in a cafe etc, but wiping them with a disinfectant wipe after is not exactly discreet!

thisneverendingsummer · 25/07/2018 12:40

Vagina??? Vulva??? Grin

Let's just call it a vajulva! Grin

Anyway, I don't get a sweaty foof at all, but I do get annoying sweaty underboobs! And I wear shorts to my knees so don't get chuff chuff with the thighs. I am not particularly large - maybe 2 stone overweight, and a size 14-16, so don't suffer too badly with the heat and bits 'rubbing.' I think I get sweaty underboobs because I have quite big boobs.

Being on your period when it's really hot is a real treat isn't it?! Hmm

@LakieLady

I don't notice the underboob sweat until I take my bra off in the evening (usually about 30 seconds after I get in the door). It's so warm and damp inside my bra, I'm thinking about planting mustard & cress in there.

What I do notice is the river of sweat that runs down my spine, and then becomes a torrent when it reaches the crack of my arse. I don't seem to get sweaty groin or chub rub though, despite being a fat old mare.

😂😂😂

@GladAllOver

Not wishing to divert the discussion, but does anyone else find that the warm weather increases their libido?

When DH comes home and steps out of the shower I just want to jump on him. He hasn't complained yet, fortunately. Smile

Like @RiverTam I am the opposite, and I don't feel like being touched at ALL when it's super hot and sticky.

Seasawride · 25/07/2018 13:01

I don’t sweat anywhere except my feet which are proper stinky and vile.

I saw someone wearing boots yesterday Confused

AlphaBravo · 25/07/2018 13:09

Erm... wear a pad. Grim.

ChoccoBiccy66 · 25/07/2018 13:15

However sweaty my vulva is, @AlphaBravo, I can wash it clean in a few minutes. Shame you can’t do anything about your rudeness though.

ohtheholidays · 25/07/2018 13:36

I'm so glad I saw this thread,I thought it was just me!Thanks OP.

For the poster who asked about size my poor DH looks like he's melting in this heat,he's changing his top in the middle of the day and he's not overweight.

Under my boobs I've sorted(well as much as I can)I stick on loads of antiperspirant,I was going to try panty liners but I thought they might make me feel hotter down there.

The worst one for me is my sodding head and face I literally have it dripping of me and it comes on with no warning,I don't care if it happens when I'm in the house it's when I'm out I'm so embarrassed.

welshmist · 25/07/2018 13:39

Why is it that when men smell in the heat everyone is understanding, but god forbid a woman should have any kind of odour Hmm

JessieMcJessie · 25/07/2018 13:44

Rainbowstardrops

Panty liners in your bra???? Who'd have thunk it?

You do realise that breast pads for lactating women are pretty much just panty liner material in a different shape, right?

Eliza9917 · 25/07/2018 13:46

There are cooling towels on groupon at the mo, or there was on Monday.

@snog Thanks, I'll order some today and give it a go.

Want2bSupermum · 25/07/2018 13:49

I work in NYC. It's really very humid. What helps is to have cool shower morning and night. Just a quick rinse with the water no more than body temp. When coming out the shower I stand under the ceiling fan for 10mins while I sort my outfit and do my make up.

Make up wise, mineral make up is best. For deodorant dry idea is better than Mitchum. Avoid polyester and other synthetic materials. I wear tropical wool from J crew for business wear. Cotton dresses from debenhams work well. The Manadalay label have some nice ones. I wear sandals to work and change into heels. I put my tights on at work where we have amazing AC. Elemis have their milk body lotion which smells great and keeps my skin soft. I can shave my legs et and haveno issues with dry skin. It also doesn't get sticky in the humidity.

CelebratedMonkey · 25/07/2018 14:47

minipie the eczema angle is interesting thanks. I too am allergy prone and get eczema in random places that will flare up then go away for months or years. Wonder if I've been experiencing that.

Btw to poster with dodgy nipples, I've had eczema on my breasts before and it was very irritating. I googled it and immediately terrified myself as there are a number of conditions that can cause this, some very serious. I wouldn't ignore it. Hopefully like me (I saw GP and dermatologists) it will 'just' be something like eczema but you just don't know.

GladAllOver · 25/07/2018 15:04

Like @RiverTam I am the opposite, and I don't feel like being touched at ALL when it's super hot and sticky.
Yes perhaps I would feel the same if I'd just got home in the heat.

Fortunately being in the home office with a cooling fan and no sticky clothes to peel off I do feel quite comfortable, and the warmth does seem to get the appetite working.

Blatherskite · 25/07/2018 15:32

^"Vagina??? Vulva???

Let's just call it a vajulva!"^

But why use a second wrong word when Vulva is both correct and understandable?

Roomba · 25/07/2018 17:19

Glad it's not just me!

I'm underweight atm and it's currently worse than when I was overweight, so it's not that. It's just so bloody hot. I still don't dare complain too loudly though after all the moaning I did about it being - 10C, having no heating and having to sleep in my hat and dressing gown until about April...
