3.5k, bought in a bridal shop in Glasgow in 1998. I think alterations were about 250 on top. It was a one off but I can’t remember the designer. Shoes, veil, headdress and jewellery were probably another 500 or so.

ALongHardWinter · 22/07/2018 17:09

£80,in 1983. I bought it in Bentalls in Kingston, from their Berketex range. Do they still exist?!

WindyWednesday · 22/07/2018 17:09

@Neverender I got mine at a shop of the same name! Similar price too. Was the shop on a steep hill?

GhostsToMonsoon · 22/07/2018 17:10

I think mine was £40 from a secondhand shop in 2009 and then it cost me about £60 to have it altered. It makes me feel less guilty for spending money on my expensive hobbies nowadays.

SinkGirl · 22/07/2018 17:12

I got incredibly lucky.

I tried on so many dresses and hated them all. A school friend was just launching her couture wedding dress line and she designed and made my dress for me. It was absolutely perfect, and it cost me £500 - pure ivory silk, simple and elegant, exactly what I wanted but couldn’t find anywhere!

GodivaEater · 22/07/2018 17:14

£1300 by Jenny Packham from local boutique. I loved it but no way would I spend that now. There are some lovely ones on ASOS and Debenhams etc.

thenorthernluce · 22/07/2018 17:15

£70 from ASOS in 2016. I also spent £25 to have it shortened and nipped in.

GodivaEater · 22/07/2018 17:15

@alonghardwinter no, they went bust. Used to love having an iced bun and milkshake in the cafe!

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 22/07/2018 17:16

£1000 as it was off the rack last minute. My mum had already bought me one kindly for £400 which was lovely but not me. I felt unkind turning it down as she cried when I tried it on. I wasn't sure for months then two months before the wedding on a whim I went to the shop on my own to try other styles and fell in love with the £1k one. I bought it and donated the first dress to the wedding wishing well foundation with my mum's blessing.

needtogiveitablow · 22/07/2018 17:16

£99 in 2008. It was an end of season sale at Berketex and had been £999 a couple of months before - as much as I loved it I wouldn’t have wanted to spend that much on a dress that’s been in the loft ever since!

Janaana · 22/07/2018 17:16

I made my own. I had planned to have it made for me by someone else from my own pattern as I think fitting can be done better by a person who is not simultaneously wearing the garment, but due to some works being carried out on our local church, we had just six weeks to organise it and I thought I'd better not waste time looking into hiring someone. The main fabric (silk satin) cost me around £40 but had been purchased overseas years before. The silk chiffon veil was similar. The lining was a really high quality cotton bedsheet for about £20 and the rest of the fabric (some cotton velvet and silk dupion) were leftovers from other outfits. Thread and trimmings were another £5-£10

ImSoExhausted · 22/07/2018 17:16

£750 with £150 for alterations, this was last year. It was a plus size gown and it was absolutely beautiful. We had a small wedding (£3000 budget inc the dress!) and I still don't regret spending that amount on the dress

Lipsticktraces · 22/07/2018 17:19

I had twoBlush

Day dress cost £450 and the night dress cost £695. I got them both at Elizabeth Avery Vintage in Greenwich.

LartenCrepsley · 22/07/2018 17:20

£700, which included alterations, in 2009.

MilkybarGrownup · 22/07/2018 17:22

£69 from a Chinese importer on eBay. It was gorgeous. A big ol bridal gown, thick satin, embroidery, the works. And because it was so cheap I had a great time partying at night because I wasn't too fussed when the huge train got stood on dancing away.

ineedwine99 · 22/07/2018 17:23

£1550, maggie sottero from a local shop

Grumpbum · 22/07/2018 17:23

£1200 in 2005 local bridal boutique was an Ian Stuart gown

Sharingplatter · 22/07/2018 17:25

£1200 15 years ago! Handmade and unique design. Worth every penny!

OhTheRoses · 22/07/2018 17:27

Bought from Harrods. It was the one I felt most comfortable in and was very simple but had a small train. It also turned out to be the cheapest at about £500 but I paid £700 to have it made to measure and the train hand hemmed. With shoes, underwear, veil and headdress it all came to just under £1000. My other option was another very simple plain dress from Droopy & Browns with a beautiful embroidered jacket to cover shoulders in church but the other was so comfy I coukdn't justify the 1300 price tag. It was a good call because our wedding day in 1991 was very very hot.

Strugglingtodomybest · 22/07/2018 17:28

£110 from Debenhams in 2011.

MyBreadIsEggy · 22/07/2018 17:28

Boutique in my mums home town, was a MoriLee design, cost £900 plus £250 in alterations.
It needed the hem shortening, but the entire thing was lace. So the seamstress had to cut off the bottom few inches with the intricate lace pattern, then shorten the dress, then match up the lace pattern from the bit she had cut off the bottom to the pattern at the bottom of the dress itself and hand stitch it all Blush
She did an incredible job! You couldn’t even tell it had been cut and restricted. Which at £250 I thought was a bargain for that kind of alteration!

Alarae · 22/07/2018 17:39

Mine was £995, plus an extra £200 alterations.

It was a dream to wear, very floaty and lightweight. I would wear it again in a heartbeat.

Mine was a Ronald Joyce dress, from a bridal shop in Wales, called All About Eve. It was £1100 (I was torn between that and a dress I later found out was £3500)

WidowWadman · 22/07/2018 17:45

£99 in the Debenhams Sale

WaitingForEgg · 22/07/2018 17:49

About £3000 from Suzanne Neville
