I was on a fairly tight budget, and in total I spent under £5K, but made all the food for about 130 ppl and the cake myself, as well as decorations, etc. I had the wedding and small intimate reception for 30-40 on the day of the wedding, which I also did all the catering, etc, for and then I had a larger reception with buffet, DJ, etc, the next day for all my extended family, friends and those at the actual wedding the day before. Just meant I had more time to cook and decorate the hall, etc.

£1200 last September. It's by Alfred Angelo. I must have been one of the last women in the world to get an Alfred Angelo dress as the day after I picked it up the company went bust, ceased production and shut all it's shops. I was very relieved but my heart broke for all the people who lost their money and their dress.

Kintan · 22/07/2018 15:27

I had two, one for ceremony and one for the reception. The reception one was a Biba dress that I got in the sales reduced from £400 to £75. And the ceremony dress was from Coast and was £50.

£695 from a bridal shop in 2009. My parents paid, and I could have picked any dress, and it just so happened that the one I picked was one of the cheapest. It was so simple, yet really elegant and flattering. I can't see the point in paying thousands for something you'll wear once!

£30 from H&M !

Singlebutmarried · 22/07/2018 15:28

Under £100, found a dress I liked, friend made a pattern and the made the dress.

Same as Crazycatlady but in 2009: a Ronald Joyce dress from Frasers, knocked down to £800 from £1,200.

Stephisaur · 22/07/2018 15:29

£1800, it was a Mori Lee and I got it from a local Bridal shop. They threw in my tiara for free as we paid for it that day.

I absolutely loved it and felt incredible wearing it :)

I wore my aunt’s wedding dress that had been sewn by my late grandma. I had not even thought of it but my aunt just sent it to me and it fitted me like a glove!

TheEmmaDilemma · 22/07/2018 15:32

£1500 2007

Don't remember designer or shop. Plain ivory fishtail two piece with button detail.

400 Singapore dollars in 1988 - Thai silk

Originally a £1200 Sottero and Midgley that I hated when I went for my second fitting; the year I got married it seemed everyone was wearing them. Some of them were amazing but I really went off mine.

Wore a £600 Mori Lee dress instead and absolutely loved it.

slkk · 22/07/2018 15:35

750 in 2009

ScienceIsTruth · 22/07/2018 15:36

@Stephisaur, that's a beautiful dress!

Mine wasn't the dress of my dreams, but I couldn't justify spending more, and without buying online (heard too many horror stories at the time), it was the cheapest one I could find where I live. In some ways I regret not being able to wear a dress I fell in love with, but didn't want to get in debt over 1 day. We couldn't afford a proper photographer and a friend with a nice car acted as my driver for the day, so we kept costs as low as possible.

Keeptrudging · 22/07/2018 15:38

£1800 plus accessories and alterations. It was by Lusan Mandongus and once I'd tried it on, it was the one. It was the first time the staff in the shop had ever seen the dress on and the woman serving me went off to get other staff to see it. It's an absolutely stunning dress, my DD has dibs on it for her future wedding (so potentially cost-effective). I had no intention of wearing anything fancy/frivolous, I thought I'd go for a plain dress, but I felt amazing in it, it's the most beautiful I've ever felt.

NotSoFastCuckoo · 22/07/2018 15:38

About £22. For the skirt part. I used a top I already had.

MissTulipan · 22/07/2018 15:38

About £1800 I think a few years back, was a Pronovios one with big train. Loved everything about wedding dress shopping, tried on lots in a few different places, went to sample sales etc but the one I ended up with was wonderful.

jaseyraex · 22/07/2018 15:38

£1800 from a boutique in my home town. Halter neck, tight fitting with a long train, lots of detail in the bodice. It was gorgeous... and then it was ruined by a seamstress 3 weeks before my wedding day! My last minute replacement dress was £150 from Debenhams. It was lovely and a lot easier to move around in, I preferred it in the end. Luckily I got a full refund on my original dress a few months after the wedding.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 22/07/2018 15:40

The Ivory version of this about £1,300 plus alterations in 2017. The whole wedding budget was under £5,000 so the dress was a sizeable chunk but it was worth it!

1forAll74 · 22/07/2018 15:40

Oh dear, I am an oldie and married in the 60 era. The wife of a man who worked in my office then, was a dressmaker, I had met her a few times.
All I had to do,was buy my chosen material (some lace and some satin. It cost me about £10. The said lady made me a really beautiful full length dress,it was really beautiful. She made my dress free of charge.Things like this often happened in my home town up North.

The dress was then cut up kind of,to make a christening gown for my two children.when they were eventually born a few years later.

Cost $25 (about £12) last year. Bought from a thrift store that I worked at at the time. Full price was $50 but got it half price with the regular staff discount. Wasn’t planning on buying it from there but it just sort of popped up and I was like yep, I’ll take it! It will have to have alternations made before I wear it next year (a stitch in the neckline as it shows a little too much boobage and there’s a danger of it shifting and one popping out and then it will need to be hemmed as I am much shorter than whoever wore it before me). Alterations will almost definitely cost me more than the dress cost me but I don’t care Smile

IncidentalAnarchist · 22/07/2018 15:44

£850 Maggie Sottero in 2012

ShatnersBassoon · 22/07/2018 15:45

£200. A friend made it for me, so I only paid for the fabrics.
