Next appointment for blood test is in a week but I feel that is too long to keep someone waiting

Thank you all
It's useful to hear different experiences. I am going to see if I can find a walk in and wait phlebotomy clinic tomorrow.
I don't think it's worth going down the private route as what I've found so far doesn't seem to get much quicker results
Based on the negative tests and symptoms I have I really don't think I'm pregnant

happytobemrsg · 22/07/2018 08:45

I think it's your hormones adjusting after coming off birth control

Stoveding · 22/07/2018 08:45

Are you ttc?

Just get used to avoiding alcohol it’s safer all round.

KathyBates · 22/07/2018 08:57

Pretty sure those are the tests my Dr ordered for me when they were testing me for premature menopause, think it was to see if I was still ovulating- so maybe they're checking to see if you are after coming off the pill?
Don't start pregnancy symptom spotting, you'll drive yourself mad. I had more 'symptoms' the months I wasn't pregnant compared to when I actually did conceive

Nothisispatrick · 22/07/2018 10:04

I had absolutely horrific shoulder pain a few days before I got my bfp. Spent a weekend lying on a hot water bottle, no obvious cause for it. I wasn't having an eptopic, completely normal and healthy pregnancy.

That said, the rest of your symptoms and the negative tests really don't point to pregnancy. I would enjoy my night out, you don't have to get hammered.

RancidOldHag · 22/07/2018 11:54

yes, it's a menopause test:

NICE says "Consider using a FSH test to diagnose menopause only:in women aged 40 to 45 years with menopausal symptoms, including a change in their menstrual cycle"

But with the other symptoms, especially the bloating, I am surprised the GP did not request CA125 as well.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/07/2018 12:56

But an FSH test isn’t just to test for menopause. I had this amongst other tests before embarking on ivf. It’s used as a test to predict the chances of conceiving naturally although it’s supposed to be measured at the beginning(?) of the cycle.

Darkstar4855 · 22/07/2018 13:25

The ultrasound isn’t just for checking if you’re pregnant - they can assess the thickness of the womb lining, look for any fibroids or polyps, look for any cysts on your ovaries and check for any fluid in the pelvis. Likewise the FSH/LH levels are a test of your hormone function and not pregnancy specific.

It sounds like your GP is being thorough and has sought specialist advice as well. There are often posts in the pregnancy/conception forums where people with similar symptoms and a negative pregnancy test complain about being “fobbed off” by GPs so it’s good that yours is being proactive and taking your symptoms seriously.

Weepatchesoflove · 22/07/2018 13:28

Another thought confusedgirl123, if there is something showing in your bloods, you will hear sooner rather than later, so the docs or hospital will contact you, depending on the urgency.
Bloods take a couple of hours normally, if it’s just blood tests and not something more in-depth. If there is no urgency, then the time is taken with the hospital contacting your doctors surgery, then from there to getting signed off by your doctor.

confusedgirl123 · 22/07/2018 13:31

Does anyone have any experience or advice on whether it could be related to zika at all?

We went on holiday last year, came back dec 1st and the advice was not to get pregnant within 6 months of coming home... so 1st June

I kept forgetting to take the pill and in the end we just decided to no longer take it as we both do want kids but haven't really been actively trying

Just a thought if this could be linked at all?

@Weepatchesoflove
Thank you, hadn't thought that. I guess if something urgent they will contact me ASAP

Hi op not rtft as in a rush but just wondered if you have looked at gall bladder issues? The shoulder pain and several other symptoms could indicate something in that area

OzziePopPop · 24/07/2018 18:22

I once read that the only absolute indication of pregnancy was birth. It really varies that much what symptoms you will or won’t get.

SoyDora · 24/07/2018 18:24

^hmm im not entirely sure about that. I’ve had 4 scans so far that have shown a baby... I think pregnancy can be confirmed!

Racecardriver · 24/07/2018 18:35

Pay to have it done privately if you don't want to wait.

linzm1985 · 24/07/2018 18:38

My friend had one faint positive test, followed by several negative tests, then had to wait a week for a blood test which was also negative.
The doctor referred her for an ultrasound on her ovaries as she had a history of problems with her cycle and he suspected she may have PCOS
During this unltrasound, they found a sac - hey referred to it as a cystic area, and told her it was consistent with being 3/4 weeks pregnant but she would probably miscarry as it was unlikely to develop further since that blood test was negative, she wasn't producing HcG

Shes now 7 months healthily pregnant!

Good luck with yours :)

Londonerlove · 24/07/2018 18:39

Looks to me as though a week feels too long as you want to go out and party.
Have some patience. No need for a blood test at all. Complete waste of NHS resource. A week is not long at all, you’ll be waiting 1-2 weeks for results.

Lozz22 · 24/07/2018 18:41

Shoulder pain can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy!!

Some woman need a blood test to confirm pregnancy. I need blood tests to confirm whether or not a pregnancy test I’ve taken is yet again another false positive!! And believe me after 14 years of TTC and 15 false positive pregnancy tests (all on different brands) it’s pretty heartbreaking!!

Stephisaur · 24/07/2018 18:42

I’ve only skimmed the thread op, but it sounds like your body is still adjusting to coming off the pill.

It can take up to a year for your hormones to regulate again. It’s only been 3 months and from what I’ve seen, your periods are still all over the place.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 24/07/2018 18:42

Home tests are not 100% false negative with DC1 when I was 5/ 6 weeks pregnant, false negative at 4 with DC2

Soulstirring · 24/07/2018 19:22

Good luck OP, TTC can be a roller coaster. I struggled to hold on to an early pg but my doctor was wonderful, I’m forever grateful to her for listening and looking after me. If you have a good GP you are on the right track. The tests will help assess hormones and hopefully pregnancy. From the most impatient person in the world (did a test to check everyday until 30 weeks, luckily was given lots through work 😂) keep calm and relax!

Cotswoldmama · 24/07/2018 19:44

I think your cycles just haven’t returned to normal since coming off contraception. I’ve been off the depo injection for 5 months now and had the copper coil in and I’ve only had 3 periods. When coming off the pill twice to conceive my sons my cycles took a long time to return to normal. The first time I came off the pill it took 6 months for my periods to become regular. We had planned to wait until I had been off it for a year but accidentally got preggo after about 9 months after coming off it. The second time I had a withdrawal bleed then nothing for about 70 days. I took the herb agnus castus, which you can get from Holland and Barrett and it brought on my period I carried on taking it and it shortened my next cycle to 37 days and the I got preggo on my next cycle. Wait and see what the blood test says and if it is negative I really recommend agnus castus for regulating your cycles. Good luck x

dorisdog · 24/07/2018 20:24

Go out and have fun. I cringe at the amount I was drinking and partying before I realised I was pregnant. One moderate-ish night out will probably be fine. I doesn't sound like pregnancy symptoms tbh. Maybe your hormones are adjusting? I take the progesterone only pill, which stop my periods and when I occasionally have a break (to check if my periods are still happening) I feel all over place, physically and emotionally.

fluffiny31 · 24/07/2018 22:25

My home test and docs were Negative I had bloods done due to pains I was pregnant. Didn't get a positive wee test until I was 6 weeks gone.

Karigan198 · 24/07/2018 22:28

I had this. Had loads of signs and kept getting negative tests. Two weeks late I got pissed off with it all enough to get a private scan. Scan showed I was. It wasn’t that pricy either £69.

Unfortunately I had a miscarriage but I no longer believe pee sticks and I wouldn’t presume they are right if I were you
