Next appointment for blood test is in a week but I feel that is too long to keep someone waiting

I'm with Paris, that's good advice.

It's unfortunate that this collides with your night out, but it's one of those things. Enjoy yourself but don't go mad, you should still be able to have fun.

I hope everything is ironed out soon Thanks

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 21/07/2018 18:02

Go on the night out and enjoy yourself. Put it out of your mind. It's more likely you're not anyway. And if it does turn out you are, one night before you found out for sure you were pregnant won't make any difference.

Tunnocks34 · 21/07/2018 18:03

How far pregnant do you think you might be? I got negative pregnancy tests until I was 8 weeks pregnant with both of my sons. No clue why, as I new I was pregnant as soon as I missed my first period!

Tunnocks34 · 21/07/2018 18:04

*knew

BlitheringIdiots · 21/07/2018 18:08

Go out and have a drink. Won't do harm. I ate Brie and pate and drank loads of red wine and then did a twat and was 7 weeks pregnant DS12 is perfectly fine

BlitheringIdiots · 21/07/2018 18:09

OMG no glasses on I meant TEST!!!!!!!!

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 18:10

@Tunnocks34
I wouldn't know. With not having periods I'm not sure . I do keep track of everything though so hopefully rolls be able to work out dates

If your home test isn’t pregnant (assuming it’s a reputable brand) then you’re not pregnant. Never seen it in many years of being a doctor. Home tests are so reliable these days.

Can't believe a doctor would make such a sweeping statement, when many of us have had pregnancies without a positive test.

Celebelly · 21/07/2018 18:20

There is something called the hook effect which can on rare occasions kick in when someone is a bit further along. It results in false negatives on a pregnancy test because the HCG compound further on in pregnancy changes in a way that tests sometimes can't handle. A more common thing is the variant hook effect, where tests get lighter, but diluting urine makes them darker again. However, this is usually for a good few weeks along, usually 12+. In the early stages of pregnancy, with very sensitive tests, I'm not sure of any reason they wouldn't read negative. You have to have HCG in your system if you are pregnant, and tests can pick up extremely low values now.

People who experience false negatives either usually a) weren't pregnant when they first tested but subsequently conceived/were in process of conceiving at the time of the test or b) very far along and victim of the hook effect.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 21/07/2018 18:22

@BlitheringIdiots I'm pretty sure doing a twat is also a legitimate, if non-ideal, way to get pregnant :)

User183737 · 21/07/2018 18:23

To be honest there's no need to know so early unless you have a history of ectopic pregnancy. It may be an unpopular opinion on here but drinking on one night out before confirming a pregnancy will be absolutely fine.
I have 4DC though, so am beyond the holier than thou pregnancies. If a pregnancy is meant to last, it will, despite doing too much, eating the wrong things etc. Those anxieties don't help people at all.

onalongsabbatical · 21/07/2018 18:24

In the early stages of pregnancy, with very sensitive tests, I'm not sure of any reason they wouldn't read negative was that wouldn't in the Trumpian sense? Grin

Celebelly · 21/07/2018 18:24

Also you don't need to have a period to ovulate. Ovulation comes before the period. If you ovulate and don't conceive, then you will bleed roughly 14 days later (this is called your luteal phase and tends to stay static for individual women, so if yours is 12 days then it won't generally deviate from that). It's usually only the first half of your cycle, the follicular phase, that can be of different lengths, as your body prepares to ovulate.

It's possible to come off birth control, ovulate and conceive without having a period.

Celebelly · 21/07/2018 18:25

It was wouldn't in the autocorrect sense!

onalongsabbatical · 21/07/2018 18:28

Autocorrect channeling Trump.

youknowwherethecityis · 21/07/2018 18:28

At my local hospital there's blood clinic every day. You just turn up, take a ticket and wait.

Could you do that?

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 18:37

@youknowwherethecityis
Not sure my hospital have that

Do you think it's reasonable to take a test the day of my night out or the day before and if still negative to drink that evening?

@Celebelly

OwlinaTree · 21/07/2018 18:43

Is shoulder pain a symptom of ectopic pregnancy?

Knittedfairies · 21/07/2018 18:44

OP, I’m not quite old enough to be your grandmother; almost, but not quite. In the Olden Days when God were nobbut a lad, the GP could not/would not confirm a pregnancy until two periods had been missed, so a week doesn’t seem all that long really.

sugarnotsweetener · 21/07/2018 18:44

When I came off the pill I had loads of different and strange symptoms that made me think I was pregnant. My friend is the same and would get nausea every single month and then think she was pregnant but wasn’t and it was just her body clearing the old fake hormones and her body balancing her monthly natural hormones. I would be tempted to say it’s your body settling down.

I’ve had 3 miscarriages and 1 ectopic. With the ectopic I was actually on the pill and not trying to get pregnant and didn’t have any pregnancy symptoms whatsoever just got referred to the hosp with some strange bleeding and mild pain (which got much much worse and almost ruptured) and this did show on the blood tests - HCG raising but not doubling as should in a normal pregnancy (hcg should double every 48hrs so that’s why youre told to retest after a couple of days if tests show negative)

With my miscarriages my symptoms were quite mild but I got positive pregnancy tests before my period was even due. The symptoms then got weaker as time went on until I miscarried.

With my 2 successful pregnancies I got instant positive tests but symptoms with both didn’t start til 5w and these were swollen breasts, sensitive nipples, extreme tiredness and unbelievable nausea and vomiting. This never went away in either pregnancy I am still sick as a dog now at 39w!

Sorry there’s loads of info there but I imagine you’re worrying about the possibility of an ectopic or miscarriage so I wanted to share with you how I felt during those versus my pregnancies with my girls.
Obviously I’m no doctor but I don’t think you sound pregnant (considering how I felt during those pregnancies) so would say go and enjoy yourself on your night out

Oh and echo the poster who said get a first response test as they were the only clear ones for me too.

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 18:44

@OwlinaTree
When I googled it that's what came up
