Having to wait a week to confirm if pregnant

Next appointment for blood test is in a week but I feel that is too long to keep someone waiting

@octoberfarm
I am going to have to think very carefully about it.
On one hand I don't want to do anything risky
On the other I think if it's meant to be then it will be

Will you be able to enjoy your night though, op? If you are going to go, but spend all night worrying about any probs that could be caused by drinking, will that not just ruin your night anyway?

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 20:26

@Weepatchesoflove
That's what I need to think about
If I go I know I'll drink and yes prob worry that it could be harming a baby if I'm pregnant
If I don't go I'll have lost the money but may feel better as I won't have risked it

some of those could be pg symptoms but they’re not exclusive and apart from the bloating and brain fog and very typical for how many weeks you would be, I’d be more inclined to think pg if you’d had sickness/nausea and or sore breasts as well. Does the stomach ache feel like period pain?

I don’t want to scare you but have you looked the symptoms for an ectopic pg? I think that’s why your GP has requested the pg test.

They always say a week for all blood tests but sometimes they come back much quicker. Just check everyday.

You can get private blood hcg tests via post which are great I used them when I was doing IVF, turnaround from ordering test to receiving results was about 3 days if you send it off on the day you receive it. Might not be worth it now though.

BlondeVolvo · 21/07/2018 20:41

Sorry that should say *aren’t very typical

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 20:50

@BlondeVolvo
Yes the pain Is similar to period pain
I have looked at ectopic pregnancy and am worried about it being that too
The blood test hasn't actually been done yet. It's a week before the blood is taken and another week until the results
May look into that.

The vast majority of hospitals have a phlebotomy clinic every weekday where you can just turn up to have your bloods done. Have a look on your local hospital website or give the switchboard a ring to find out. Then you can go in and have the bloods done on Monday.

Eliza9917 · 21/07/2018 20:54

Could you sell your place on the night out to someone else who hasnt booked?

BlondeVolvo · 21/07/2018 21:01

Oh yes as @Maiyakat has said don’t wait for an app at the docs to have it taken, just take your sample bags to your local hospital, you don’t need an app it’s normally just take a ticket and wait. Normally it is quicker than a wk for any test which doesn’t need a culture - those don’t.

If you thought it might be quicker, I used Medichecks and it’s a finger prick blood test. Very efficient.

Mmm I think that’s what she may think bc of the shoulder pain. Has there been any bleeding at all - probably won’t be bright red if it was an ectopic. When’s your scan booked for?

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 21:06

@Maiyakat
Tried looking for that but couldn't find it. Will have another look

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 21:07

@Eliza9917
Can't really as don't think anyone else wanted to go. Plus i was going with my other half so would need to sell both tickets

@BlondeVolvo
Since April (when stopped taking the pill) small bleed 4 days 7th - 10th April and again 3 days 23rd - 25th (unsure if period as not what I would usually expect for a period - very light bleed)
Spotting 17th June

Bambamber · 21/07/2018 21:38

Google local walk in phlebotomy clinics, there's often a few community clinics dotted around as long as you take your request form with you

Anonnymouse54321 · 21/07/2018 22:13

I'd want to know too OP. I did also think shoulder pain could mean ectopic so be careful. I wouldn't say the rest sounds like pregnancy symptoms really.

My symptoms were metallic taste, cramps without a period (always had cramps and period on same day), bone crushing tiredness, felt sick, sore boobs.

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 22:35

@Bambamber
Thank you, have tried looking but can't seem to find any

@Anonnymouse54321
Will keep an eye out for any other symptoms

Ectopic pregnancy bleeding is more like watery prune juice so I have read

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 23:08

I haven't really had any bleeding. Spotting on 17th June but nothing since then and it wasn't like prune juice

OP posts:
user546425732 · 21/07/2018 23:33

YY to prune juice. When I started bleeding it was purple.

sugarnotsweetener · 21/07/2018 23:40

With my ectopic it was very dark blood, lots of clots and it wasn’t on and off it was constant like a period (it was purple but wasn’t watery). The pain gradually got much worse every day and was one sided (not like period pain) my shoulder tip pain didn’t start until the day they rushed me in for the surgery.

user546425732 · 21/07/2018 23:43

I guess it depends on how far advanced it is, mine was operated on just before it ruptured. I'd had the shoulder tip pain all day before the bleeding.

Talkingfrog · 21/07/2018 23:58

This may sound strange but try searching the hefa website for private fertility clinics in your area. Their websites should list the costs of a scan or blood test. Some will do tests for those not having treatment with them. It will also depend how busy they are as to whether they can fit you in.

mittensofsteel · 22/07/2018 06:00

With my ectopic I was rushed to hospital in pain but discharged because the didn’t know what it was - all the urine tests were negative.

I had a “period” straight after but shoulder pain, some cramps and a sense of unwellness persisted. It took three weeks for any hcg to show in my system - the most paltry amount and it only showed up on a blood test. It didn’t rise as normal and I had surgery soon after. They managed to save my tube which was amazing.

I think the initial pain was the pregnancy implanting in the tube. The gp sounds like she’s doing the right thing by making sure you have a blood test - it’s the best way to check hcg.

PepperSteaks · 22/07/2018 07:03

I’ve never ever had a positive pregnancy test. Yet I deffo gave birth to DD so it can happen.

JustVent · 22/07/2018 07:28

That’s interesting PepperSteaks I assume you peed on a bunch of tests and they were always negative?

Does anyone know why?
