Having to wait a week to confirm if pregnant

Next appointment for blood test is in a week but I feel that is too long to keep someone waiting

I'm confused as to why you are confused.

If you have symptons that point to pregnancy but pg (urine) tests are negative, then the next port of call would be a blood test/ultrasound to confirm or rule out pregnancy.

Then, if its still showing s not pregnant and you still have sypmtoms the doctor can look at other things.

What kind of tests were you thinking the doctor would do ?

jellomello · 21/07/2018 16:21

Yes, the GP should prioritise you being able to drink on a night out over other patients. It's ridiculous they allow their schedule to impact your social life.

brizzledrizzle · 21/07/2018 16:26

YABU. You can have a night out without drinking alcohol unless you have a drink problem. The GP has far more pressing cases to deal with when you have an easy solution to the delay.

brizzledrizzle · 21/07/2018 16:27

Depends if the person wants to continue with that pregnancy, or if there is risk of an ectopic doesn't it though?

If it's a potential ectopic then the GP would refer immediately to the EPAU or similar.

gamerchick · 21/07/2018 16:29

What symptoms are you having?

SoyDora · 21/07/2018 16:33

If the GP has already done a pregnancy test, the only other tests she could possibly do are blood test or ultrasound. What else where you expecting?

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 16:37

@gamerchick
Headaches
Stomach pain
Bloating
Shoulder pain
Watery stools
Lack of concentration
Heightened emotions
Low energy levels

Ghanagirl · 21/07/2018 16:41

Those symptoms could be a whole host of other diagnoses or even unrelated.

Oldraver · 21/07/2018 16:42

I would say the GP didnt suspect pregnancy but was ruling it out

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 16:42

@Ghanagirl
I think that's why I was expecting more as with the negative pregnancy tests at home and the doctors I would have thought it would be something else so confused why she's only testing for pregnancy

BlitheringIdiots · 21/07/2018 16:43

I've got 5 of those symptoms but I'm definitely not pregnant!

gamerchick · 21/07/2018 16:44

I wouldn't have thought those were typical pregnancy symptoms ime. It's usually nausea, sore boobs, cramping etc. Maybe she's thinking eptopic. If your pain increases to unbearable levels you'll need to go and get looked at at a hospital.

user546425732 · 21/07/2018 16:44

@confusedgirl123 with those symptoms I'd phone for an appointment at the out of hours GP service or call 111.

gamerchick · 21/07/2018 16:45

I've got 5 of those symptoms but I'm definitely not pregnant!

Me too but it's chronic gastric issues. Definitely not pregnancy.

BottleOfJameson · 21/07/2018 16:46

confusedgirl123 Most of the possibilities don't require a test. It could be stress, allergies, IBS, virus. She''s doing a test for pregnancy because it's easy to rule out - lots of other possibilities couldn't be tested for. You could ask for an iron test I guess.

Ghanagirl · 21/07/2018 16:47

With ectopic pregnancy you usually get a positive pregnancy test just after you miss period, and then if you retest couple of days or week later it might only be a feint line or negative

WinnieTheW0rm · 21/07/2018 16:47

Did you ask the doctor exactly what tests they would be running on your blood? Because with those symptoms, and an ultrasound within 2 weeks, I hope they include a CA125 and a full blood count.

Sorry to be alarming.

fourandnomore · 21/07/2018 16:47

To be honest I have most of those symptoms on and off and am definitely not pregnant. Isn’t it strange they aren’t looking at other possibilities, but they may test blood for other issues too. A week really isn’t long to wait for a non urgent blood test I don’t think.

Queenofthestress · 21/07/2018 16:51

What are the codes she wrote down when she gave you the red slip for the test?

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 21/07/2018 16:52

Those symptoms aren't usual pregnancy symptoms. If a urine test says you're not then it's only a small likelihood you are. Those tests are accurate.

Bibesia · 21/07/2018 16:52

When was your last period? Are you normally regular?

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 16:53

Blood test form says
LH and FSH (LHFS)
Pregnancy HCG (PHCG)

OP posts:
cadburyegg · 21/07/2018 16:54

That’s just the way it is, and I’ve ttc 3 times. The hormone has to be a certain level to show up on tests. When was your period due? If you are late, and your period is usually regular, then the negative pregnancy tests are probably accurate.

Wanting to get drunk isn’t an urgent enough reason to want a blood test. They aren’t done routinely

confusedgirl123 · 21/07/2018 16:55

@Bibesia
first had implant when I was 15 (no periods)
Took it out jan 17 (regular monthly periods)
Started pill sept 17 (no periods)
Stopped pill 1 April 18 - small bleed 4 days 7th - 10th April and again 3 days 23rd - 25th (unsure if period as not what I would usually expect for a period - very light bleed)
Spotting 17th June
No other periods

SoyDora · 21/07/2018 16:56

How odd, I’ve been pregnant 3 times and wouldn’t consider them usual pregnancy symptoms at all.
