Me and DH are married 2 years tomorrow. We have 1DS whose 7 months and I'm 8 weeks pregnant. We are off on holidays this evening and a bloody great fruit bouquet has just arrived as my anniversary gift. My DH explained he thought it would be better as we could take it away with us (we are driving) and flowers would get wasted. I'm really disappointed and think it's such an unromantic gift. I'm also dreading driving in a car on holiday with a grizzly baby and a basket full of rotting fruit !!!

kwatah I don't want a medal, either. To be honest, neither of us were arsed about getting married in the first place, and I hated my wedding day. I don't understand people who love being the centre of attention and need presents etc. for validation, it's childish.

KwatahPanda · 21/07/2018 15:49

Yeah, hangry, we know what fruit baskets look like. That's why it's so fucking strange.

Sick uncle in hospital, maybe.

Gift to someone at another company who helped you out, maybe. Even then fairly lazy.

OftenHangry · 21/07/2018 15:49

Wow. Angry... And I thought I had issues.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 21/07/2018 15:51

He's not just given you a basket of fruit. He's given you a memorable story about your second wedding anniversary that will last far longer than the memory of a nice meal.

Takfujimoto · 21/07/2018 15:51

What kind of gifts does he get you for your Birthday and Christmas?

KwatahPanda · 21/07/2018 15:53

Grin I think the childish thing is doing something you don't want to do, then assuming every other human who feels differently is somehow wrong.
MrsMint · 21/07/2018 15:54

Sorry but YABU. You just got a nice gift and you are going away on a nice holiday tomorrow. Loads that would like to be in your shoes...

SilverySurfer · 21/07/2018 15:56

YABU and ungrateful. The traditional second wedding anniversary gift is cotton - be grateful he didn't buy you a pair of socks or a tea towel.

Stop moaning and start eating.

Flowerfae · 21/07/2018 15:56

At least he got you something though, my DH thinks us going out for dinner is a present for me :D (for birthdays too) its taken me years to get him to buy me even a card.

Mydogmylife · 21/07/2018 15:56

I'm glad you realise you sound petulant - cos you do! Honestly some you need to get over yourselves, he may not have got what you wanted ( did you hint at all?) but at least some effort was made. Talk about first world problem

ToeToToe · 21/07/2018 15:57

The fruit in those pictures looks peeled and cut into shapes? If that's the case, it's not going to last v long. So I'd freeze for smoothies too.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about getting a fruit bouquet. Not too thrilled, I think - even though I love fruit. I buy it every supermarket shop.

On balance - I think I'd prefer chocolates Grin

Dowhatyouwish · 21/07/2018 15:58

YABU. What did you get him?

roseandharry · 21/07/2018 15:59

@Takfujimoto it really varies!

And again I'm going to sound extremely ungrateful!!

For Xmas he bought me Tiffany earrings. Wonderful made me feel special.

For my birthday he bought be a canvas print of four photos he thought meant a lot to us! Two of them didn't mean anything to me at all!!!

What were the other two photos of?

HuckfromScandal · 21/07/2018 16:01

Hth

CookPassBabtridge · 21/07/2018 16:02

What did you get him? I think it's lovely, and no I'm not a fucking weirdo. Hmm

OftenHangry · 21/07/2018 16:03

He tries though, doesn't he. Which is lovely. Maybe the pictures meant something for him and so he thought they meant something to you as well.

mn101 · 21/07/2018 16:03

@GreatDuckCookery the ones that meant something were two places that were important in our history, the other two were random photos I think he googled, of places we'd been but in my opinion not that important to us as a couple

OftenHangry · 21/07/2018 16:04

Tbh I think he made a mistake with Tiffany earings. Set a bar too high for himself nowGrin

roseandharry · 21/07/2018 16:04

Soz last message fro me I keeps changing my name !!!' @GreatDuckCookery

YABU (although understandably I'd be knackered with a 7 month old and an early pregnancy) he put some thought into a gift and just didn't get it right. I would say thanks and next time hint that you'd prefer flowers/chocolate/wine or whatever.

noselimit · 21/07/2018 16:05

Honestly, I wouldn’t care. DH and I have been married over 15 years and don’t bother with gifts. Anniversaries don’t bother me, we got married because we wanted to be married, not so I could have a day where I make myself feel shot because he didn’t get me the right gift. The importance is your relationship, not a present on one day. People place far too much pressure on each other over this nonsense.

You want him to make you feel special? Why just on that one day. Could his actions throughout the year not do that? Do you do that for him?

Takfujimoto · 21/07/2018 16:06

😂🤭 it's sounds as if he does put a bit of thought into general gift giving for you then but it's just a bit hit and miss occasionally.

I think it would be bad for your relationship to tell him you didn't like the gift, maybe next year you could give him something in a similar vein to this one or maybe agree to do token gifts with a spending limit but treat yourselves to a nice meal with each other that you can both enjoy, then at least you are on the same wavelength.

BertrandRussell · 21/07/2018 16:06

I suppose it depends a bit on the fruit. Apples and bananas would be a bit underwhelming. Passion fruit, strawberries, peaches and lychees- lovely present.

roseandharry · 21/07/2018 16:06

@OftenHangry I know they were really generous and I totally don't expect that every time there's a celebration but I just don't think much thoughts has gone into the fruit basket. It's like he's googled 'present for my wife that's not flowers'
