To complain about TA comment

dungandbother · 19/07/2018 13:42

Dd was told off by a (strict) TA to untuck her PE T-shirt because it didn't look right.

I am outraged that she would comment on the appearance of a child and how they choose to wear their PE kit.
Yr 6 if it matters.

DD always tucks her shirt in because she doesn't like the feel of the waistband on her skin - no matter which uniform she's wearing.

Should I write and complain ?

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 19/07/2018 15:04

She doesn't get a choice in how to wear her PE kit, it's uniform and she needs to wear it appropriately

How does one wear pe kit inappropriately?

pitterpatter "I do also think AIBU is a hot bed for people who like to criticise so rather than offer constructive help."

... did you read the OP? they have been given constructive help, nameley "fuck off"

giles by untucking your t-shirt...

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/07/2018 15:07

It was tucked in. And how does one ensure it remains tucked in fully every secind whilst leaping about doing sports ?

Don't complain. You'll be forever known as 'that parent'. Do tell your dc to speak up for themselves though, and explain why he/she likes their shirt tucked in. Then if the TA still won't let it lie, go and speak to them, but go in open minded and fairly, not to complain.

JellyBears · 19/07/2018 15:11

I got old off when I was in y1 for having mess unbrushed hair. I’m gonna ask my mum to write a letter to complain. Assuming Mrs Barks is still alive that is..

Gileswithachainsaw shorts too short, t-shirt off the shoulder, rolled up sleeves...who knows kids will find a way Wink. Why not just do what the teacher wants?

I would have a word with the class teacher, the TA's comment seems unnecessary and I don't agree with calling a child out about an adults personal opinion

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 19/07/2018 15:21

I have the kind of kids who look like they fell out a bin despite leaving house clean, well groomed
I know teacher has told them to tuck clothing in,fair enough.if they look scruffy tell them
Don’t get all angst about an inocous comment, and it was innocuous. don’t be that mum

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 15:21

As hilarious as that is it's obviously not constructive. No one listens to rude obnoxious "help" of that kind as the person posting rude messages is obviously doing it just to sick the boot in.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/07/2018 15:24

Fucking hell. No wonder we have an influx of Teachers and TAs leaving the profession
I've never understood all this fanny about and complaining over petty things. I just about seen the inside of the bleedin school.

Padparadscha · 19/07/2018 15:26

Thanks for the laugh, OP. I’m sure you’ll give the staff room one as well (if this is really of course).

Cobrider · 19/07/2018 15:27

This is about on par with the parent who complained about me last week because I took her water bottle away for the afternoon

Oh well that would get me lumped in to the staff room gossip session too as I would have complained if my dc has their water bottle removed for an afternoon.

Op, the TA was being petty and having a little power trip, I think it was unnecessary.

I’d 100% go in just to see what the fuck TA was on about. Not to complain but to know what the fuck is wrong with tucking a PE top. Is there a rule about PE tops being tucked in that I wasn’t aware about ... or was it just a personal observation ..

QuizzlyBear · 19/07/2018 15:40

As a parent with one child in year 6 and one in year 9, I can tell you now that if this upsets you to the point of complaining about a teacher, you are going to hate secondary school. There they are given after-school detentions for answering another child in class, wearing their hair down (when longer than shoulder-length), not having a ruler in their pencil case and a multitude of other tiny infractions.

You'd do well to develop a thicker skin for yourself and your child now as the 'tone' used to discipline children is often loud, abrasive and shouty. Often year 6 teachers adopt a stricter, less nurturing attitude specifically to try to prepare kids for this.

YABU.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 15:40

This is about on par with the parent who complained about me last week because I took her water bottle away for the afternoon

As in they had no water for the entire afternoon or they just had to go to the water fountain because they were fannying about with the bottle? The first I can totally understand being concerned about the second definitely not.

wanderings · 19/07/2018 15:42

"Weasley, straighten your hat."
"Miss Patil, take that ridiculous thing out of your hair."

Professor McGonagall, HP and the Goblet of Fire (book)

Even at Hogwarts the pupils are told what to do.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 15:42

Presumably if she picked out op's girl every other child had their shirt untucked?

So? If every other girl in the class has long hair doesn't mean OP's DD has to have long hair! Most schools don't have a policy on whether PE shirts are tucked or not.

scarbados · 19/07/2018 15:43

I think you need to get a fucking life is this is all it takes to 'outrage' you. Pathetic!
