To complain about TA comment

dungandbother · 19/07/2018 13:42

Dd was told off by a (strict) TA to untuck her PE T-shirt because it didn't look right.

I am outraged that she would comment on the appearance of a child and how they choose to wear their PE kit.
Yr 6 if it matters.

DD always tucks her shirt in because she doesn't like the feel of the waistband on her skin - no matter which uniform she's wearing.

Should I write and complain ?

Yes you are BU. You'll never be away from secondary school if you carry on like this. Get a grip now, and a bit of perspective.

Whattheactualfuckmate · 19/07/2018 15:43

Yep ! That’s me lipstick a miniature one though as I’m quite small 😁

PullMyFingerPlease · 19/07/2018 15:46

Bloody hell cobbrider how did children survive before they allowed water bottles ?

SunShades · 19/07/2018 15:48

@Gileswithachainsaw

Schools can have all sorts of rules about how to wear PE kit, just like other uniform. DS(14) was given detention as his top button was undone on his PE polo shirt. He's also only allowed to wear tracksuit bottoms if given permission by the PE teacher.

Rules on PE uniform should be followed and punishments given if not, just like other policies in a school.

ToadOfSadness · 19/07/2018 15:53

It used to be normal to tuck them in, at least up until the 70's. I remember it clearly. I think the fashion for leaving them out started soon after than, along with clothes getting baggier and shorts getting longer.

Dear god at my school we didn't even have water bottles. Drink was at lunch time. I didn't die of dehydration! My school had all sorts of odd rules, we just had to suck it up

zeeboo · 19/07/2018 15:59

I can see it now, too large tshirt or thick polo shirt tucked into tight cycling shorts. It wouldn't look right and I'd have said the same as the TA.

LEELULUMPKIN · 19/07/2018 15:59

And here was me wondering why the younger generation seem so incapable of coping with the realities of life.............

Absolutely pathetic.

Jayfee · 19/07/2018 16:02

Targeted by the ta because she told her to untuck her shirt?????

Myotherusernameisbest · 19/07/2018 16:03

I don't know why you are being piled on, the comment obviously upset your dd and it was totally unnecessary by the sounds of it.

I know we all think teachers and ta's are supposed to be brilliant but there is the odd one that really isn't. There was a TA in my dcs primary and they kept telling me things about her, how she was mean and would say nasty things and I just put it down to her perhaps being strict. But then one day I saw her totally manhandle a nursery age boy and shout in his face. She literally dragged him along the corridor by his arm. So I did then take my dc concerns seriously and had a word with the head so they could at least keep an eye on things.

I also recall a seperate incident when I was a primary age child, about 10 years old and I had had a haircut which my mum had done and the dinner playground supervisor laughed at me and said how awful it looked. I have never forgotten that.

Blostma · 19/07/2018 16:04

Surely she only has a couple of days left in school. Save your ire for the uniform police in secondary.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 19/07/2018 16:05

I’m presuming you have considerably more hair

targetted your child
She asked her to untuck her shirt, that’s not targeting someone for goodness sake.
Complain away, it’ll give the staff something to laugh about in the staff room tomorrow for sure!

LeighaJ · 19/07/2018 16:06

Might have been worded a bit harshly but teachers aren't there to coddle and stroke the ego of students and parents. They're there to teach. In this case she taught your daughter not to tuck her shirt in during PE.

Well first up we don't even know if there is a rule about t shirts being tucked in or not.

Its a bit late in the day to worry about length if t shirt and shorts. If there was a problem then address earlier on in the year or acknowledge that cone June no one is gonna replace any items.

Also depends on what the pe uniform actually is. Some are nicely fitted. Others and I'm thinking of what my Dds have to wear and thise are t shirts that are really wide and tent like. Either you tuck in or tie it up at the side or it flaps about and it makes you look like you have no shorts underneath at all and they are so baggy if you do hand stands they will fall down and expose your stomach and chest.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 16:17

It doesn't matter if you think the PE shirt looks nice untucked the school doesn't have a policy that it must be tucked in so she can have it like she wants and shouldn't be told off. It's not a huge deal but of course it's better to have nice teaching staff that talk nicely to children and are consistent with rules rather than inventing unnecessary ones on the spot. That said a one off grumpy comment I would roll my eyes with DD at home and take it no further.

PlatypusPie · 19/07/2018 16:18

If my daughter had come home and whined about something as utterly trivial as this I would have been 🙄. Both of you need to grow up - at least she has the excuse of still being a child.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 16:19

Also I wouldn't worry about secondary school the uniform rules are very specific so you know where you stand. Most of the teachers have more important things to worry about than their personal preferences about how a student chooses to dress as long as they're within the rules.

RedSkyLastNight · 19/07/2018 16:19

If she's in Y6, that presumably means she'll be in secondary school in September?

I sincerely hoping for your sake that she is going to one that is relaxed about uniform.
Some secondary schools are very hot on uniform being just so ...

SoupDragon · 19/07/2018 16:26

By this point in Y6, my DC always had a top that was just short of skin tight and at the top of their waistband.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 16:27

Doesn't sound like OP has an issue with uniform policies at all from my reading. She has a problem with her DD being told off for doing nothing wrong - clearly the school don't have a policy that PE shirts should be tucked in yet DD was told off for it. It doesn't sound like she has an issue with established uniform rules as there would be in secondary.
