Drink lots of water. Dried figs and dried apricots work for my husband.

Not an immediate fix but I find Fybogel works well. I take a sachet after dinner in the evening and I always go the next morning after a hot cup drink.

Epsom salts - but you need to be near a loo for 24hrs

HicDraconis · 18/07/2018 22:11

Sugar free sweets always work for me. Coffee for some reason doesn’t, probably because I’ve lived on it for so long I’m immune. Alternatively, bowel prep is guaranteed to give me a good clear out.

For longer term maintenance, psyllium husk (Metamucil over here) plus increased water intake is recommended by our colorectal team. You can also get frozen sachets of Kiwicrush which is essentially blitzed kiwifruit skins with pineapple and is regularly prescribed for constipation. One sachet mixed with a glass of water every morning, turns into something resembling a tropical fruit slushie.
